And Wario is only 25k :(

... after a 10K first day meaning that it more than doubled its first day sales over the weekend. That's been a hallmark of games that will have good legs. Wario is more core than the usual game with that pattern, but it's still a good sign.

First party core games don't sell on the Wii or DS. It's time to wrap it up. Nintendo was right all along. Why market and hype up stuff that no one wants. Just to please GAF? No way. Bring on the Wii Music clones!

The success of DQ5 makes me cry happy man tears (as if I didn't see that coming). Siren numbers are respectable, and I hope it has legs to make at least 75-100k. Wario Land is the big disappointment though. Was there not any hype for this game? Any marketing? Or was it dropped on the public in typical Nintendo fashion?

Or do people just not care?

Interesting. Wii software has unusual legs in that it tends to sell well over time. I guess I'm just desensitized by most games being front-loaded. Still, I doubt we'll see Wario push anything too note-worthy over time.

Oh, I never knew its 10k first day. Well let's hope so.

repost because the other thread is about to die:

what i find baffling about the Wario situation is how can the WarioWare games sell millions and the Wario Land ones struggle to get 50k.

what about those Warioware consumers? are they fans of wario or just fans of that type of game?

Wii Fit doing good

very good for MGS4, im happy!

hope Persona 4 will do well in the long run....

dont care much for DQ5, its pretty boring to see it selling well all the time.

I'm guessing fans of the game.

Super Mario Galaxy vs. Mario Party 8

Both have Mario, but they're two completely different games.

This is week #2. :/

I think Fatal Frame 4 sales will be the same as Wario:(

I'm thinking about twice Wario's first week.

Hardcore gaming is dead in Japan.

I wonder how Phantasy star Portable will do next week.

It is getting tons of TV ads. Sega is pushing this as hard as Capcom pushed Monster Hunter. Same style of ads too actually. It is clear they are going after the same people.

You really think people play WarioWare because of Wario?

That'd be a very high number for the series in general (higher than any of the PS2 ones).
I think 1/2 of Wario is much more likely.

40-60K were the PS2 launch weeks.

Dragon Quest V destroys Japan! *Boom!* Goodbye Monster Hunter! (Though I see it in the Top 20).

But seriously, glad to see Wario got 25,000 copies, while not stellar it is better than what I was hearing about 15,000 copies.

well, at least that's what got me into warioware. if it was just some random generic character, i would have probably missed the games.

in my case, it was a wario land fan going into warioware. the opposite seems to not work.

does anybody have that sprite-based DQ chart?

I did Mario, Final Fantasy, top DS, top Wii, top next-gen, Zelda, and Pokemon. No DQ. Someone might have done one a loooong time ago but I don't remember ever seeing one.

but the top DQ/DW games would look something like this (data Japan-GameCharts, followed by Captain Smoker's data):
Dragon Quest IX 22.000.000
1. Dragon Warrior VII 3.893.293
2. Dragon Quest VIII 3.538.860
3. Dragon Quest VI 3.081.975
4. Dragon Quest V 2.800.000
5. Dragon Warrior Monsters 1.911.107
6. Dragon Quest Vr PS2 1.611.974
7. Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 1.592.728
8. Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 1.458.149
9. Dragon Quest IVr DS 1.201.771
10. Dragon Quest I+II SFC 1.200.000
11. Dragon Quest IVr PS1 1.173.670
12. Dragon Quest III SFC 1.010.989

I can't seem to find Famicom sales (which would really just be shipment numbers), but these are the top from SFC onwards.

Edit: MagicBox barf numbers say:
DQ III 3.8 million
DQ IV 3.1 million
DQ II 2.4 million
DQ 1.5 million

Normally I'd be disinclined to pay any notice to them and the majority of the rest of their numbers are head and shoulders higher than the actual tracked data, but in the case of Famicom numbers you're pretty much bound to using shipment numbers and so you're probably safe using those.

I should declare Wario Land a dead series. Made in Wario sells better, and even then it's a tired microgame fest.

The last Wario Land sold almost half a million.

Wasn't that baseball game priced more on PS2 than Wii version?

I believe so. Nintendo still has a long ways to go to convince most of the PS2 core gamers to buy a Wii.

Man I would love a DQ-sprite chart. That would rule. You could even use the Slime for the Monsters spinoff. Or I could do it.
