Media Create Sales: 9 - 15 Jan

Without reading the text it looks like the PSP outsold the DS for longer than 2 weeks.

Why is the 2 week line almost half of the 37 week one?

Because you didn't look at the dates at the bottom.

Everything and Nothing has been updated:

http://www.everythingandnothing.org.uk/vg/japweekly.php?date=38732

The most impressive thing is that 5 of the 6 (Wario Ware touched has just passed as well) of the DS million sellers are still in the weekly top 10 and still have another 250k-500k left in them yet at least (Brain Training could be significantly more than that).

Top DS games to date (15th Jan):

Animal Crossing: Wild World DS Nintendo 1,659,000
Train Your Brain DS Nintendo 1,627,500
Brain Flex DS Nintendo 1,241,750
Nintendogs DS Nintendo 1,199,500
Mario Kart DS DS Nintendo 1,096,750
Wario Ware Touched DS Nintendo 1,002,750
Super Mario 64 DS DS Nintendo 957,750
Train Your Brain 2 DS Nintendo 957,750
Tamogotchi DS DS Bandai 938,250
Pokemon Mysterious Dungeon Blue DS Nintendo 711,750
Jump Super Stars DS Nintendo 546,000
Daredemo Asobi Taizen DS Nintendo 436,500
Pokemon Dash DS Nintendo 375,000
Kirby: Canvas Curse DS Nintendo 307,250
Mario & Luigi 2: Partners In Time DS Nintendo 299,250

Slime Mori Mori Dragon Quest 2 DS Enix 246,250
Yoshi: Touch and Go DS Nintendo 237,750

Also, some good possible comparisons:

Mario Kart DS and Mario Kart 64
http://www.everythingandnothing.org.uk/vg/japcomp.php?name1=Mario+Kart+64&name2=Mario+Kart+DS
Mario Kart 64 did 2.24m (MK DS about 250k behind).

Animal Crossing and Donkey Kong Country
http://www.everythingandnothing.org...rossing:+Wild+World&name2=Donkey+Kong+Country
Donkey Kong Country did 3.00m (AC about 500k behind).

Brain Training 2 and Gran Turismo
http://www.everythingandnothing.org.uk/vg/japcomp.php?name1=Train+Your+Brain+2&name2=Gran+Turismo
Gran Turismo did 2.55m (pretty close at the moment, similar legs?)

Pokemon Mysterious Dungeon and Diddy Kong Racing
http://www.everythingandnothing.org...sterious+Dungeon+Blue&name2=Diddy+Kong+Racing
DKR did 890k, PMD 20k ahead.

Brain Training and.... Pokemon??

What?!?! Don't rule it out.... :D

Just out of honest curiousity, exactly what are you trying to prove with these comparisons? What's the point? Excuse my ignorance, but I don't quite get it. :|

Ok, someone's going to have to help me with this one because I don't follow.

Eh?

It's not proving anything. Its showing the nearest example of a previous game that has followed similar sales patterns and so should be a good indication of how much said game will eventually sell if it continues to follow a similar pattern which is highly likely.

Just a way of making an 'educated guess' about how titles will perform in the future based on performance to date and previous trends of similar games.

Does that explain a little better?

In Brain Training's case I highly doubt it will continue selling like Pokemon ;).

ioi, I have no problem with you posting these comparisons. It is just that all of your numbers seem to be way off. Just look at Mario and Luigi: Partners in time as an example...

Media Create #'s = 260,799
Your #'s = 299,250

That is hell of a difference, almost 40,000. These numbers are still in the Top 10. So why don't you actually use the top 10s numbers?

Slime Mori Mori Dragon Quest 2 DS Enix 246,250

Wow! I didn't think it got up that high. Pretty good considering it's on a handheld, and not a "true" DQ game.

And Nintendo's raking in the moola, big time with the DS. Good job.

All of his sales a supposed to be "real" sales, because Media-Create and Famitsu both are low, or something.

"Seem to be way off"- why is it my numbers that are way off? ;-)

Basically yeah.

They are adjusted to make them more accurate than Famitsu or Media Create:

http://www.ga-forum.com/showpost.php?p=2510377&postcount=176

http://www.ga-forum.com/showpost.php?p=2506270&postcount=303

And yes, comparing Brain Training to Pokemon may seem far fetched but that was the point ;-)

Brain Training has legs, whether it'll do Pokemon numbers is doubful but then I think 2m for each is a dead cert so who knows when they will stop selling. Could keep doing 30-40k a week all year long (that would be +2m for each alone), could drop away pretty soon. With the momentum the DS has, steady trickles of hardware over the next few weeks, normal supplies back by Feb etc I can see some strong sales for a few months yet.

I like everything or nothing for past sales, but I've found them to have a few inaccurate numbers for games (Smash bros, Animal Crossing, etc.) so I'll stick to links of Famitsu and Media create to buffer away any discrepencies.

For those who are sore over the NPD tightening or are just looking for a good Excel document that tracks videogames, sign up (for free via email) for my TEVS Document. I created it 4 years ago and for the past 2 years have been sending the documnet out monthly to over 60 people online. It tracks videogames sales of all the consoles, multiplatform titles, graphs and the whole she-bang. A few people from Gaming Age forums already subscribes, and I'd love to expand the list with more people all the time.
Either email me at mukkeyisso@yahoo.com, PM me, or list your email for me to add to the address book.

Moreso on topic, ioi I like your posts, always so insightful. Anyways, it seems Animal Crossing may even overtake Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire in separate sales in Japan. Brain Trainings are so massive in sales it's amazing, as is the surprise Mario Kart.

I seriously can't wait to see what Pokemon Diamond and Pearl will do on the DS. It's proven it moves Nintendo's software like hotcakes, and POKEMON? Don't let it be released in the holiday season or we'll be seeing 1 million DS's per week.

Why are the numbers for Animal Crossing or Smash Bros inaccurate?

They tie in exactly with shipment numbers and so forth...

Well for like Super Mario Sunshine or Mario KArt Double Dash, Mario Party 4 in the US, are those including bundled sales or perhaps all of North America? If not it'd be too big based off NPD.

Super Smash Bros. was at 4.4 million about a year ago which put it's Europe numbers over 1 million. And at 1.34 million in Japan abotu a year ago from this website if you've ever been there that's been shut down unfortunately :( It used to be perfect for Japan sales: http://www5e.biglobe.ne.jp/~hokora/gcrank.html

Animal Crossing for GC was also at over 900,000 in Japan a year ago. The same site.

Perhaps it's just small misunderstandings but yea. >.<

Oh man do I love the "If every week is like this week, it will take PSP this many weeks to overtake DS" stat on close weeks. With this week's numbers, they'll match September 19, 2022 at 52,941,847 units apiece.

PSP FOR THE FUCKING WIN.

There are a few instances where EOA's data for a given week is lower than what Famitsu/Media Create/Dengeki have for that week, so even EOA isn't perfect.

Well, which numbers are you looking at, the worldwide shipments (that's the only place I have any US numbers)?

These are shipment direct from Nintendo and so will include bundles and so forth, yeah. We did have bundle numbers as of August or something (they won't have changed much):

Mario Sunshine- 626k
Mario Kart: DD- 844k

Mario Kart DD was bundled in Europe and this resulted in a huge boost to its numbers there as well. These are official numbers straight from Nintendo.

Where did the Smash Bros 4.4m number come from? Not the data I posted from the CESA yearly report surely? ;-)

As far as Japan is concerned, Smash Bros had shipped 1.28m by Dec 2003 and Animal Crossing 670k (again direct from Nintendo). The 900k figure includes AC e+ which was the special edition released in 2004 which did about another 300k.

Any others? :D

There is a new entry up on the shinobi blog with 300k for... something. Yeah. Nevermind.

On bleach:

"Incoming order doing, large it did not get together, it dashes comparatively and reservation seems was many,
Coming here, somewhat it has become shortage of goods tendency.
Perhaps the fan which plans the purchase of early stage the one which it hurried a little is good."

...what?

looks like he's talking about the English training "game" but that one isn't released yet, so it can be the size of the initial shipment?

Rumours, hope you've got your salt ready:

DS 20000
PSP　80000

DS software total 650k
PSP software total 100k

Main new releases
Derby Tsukurou 50,000
Rule of Rose 50,000
SFZero 3 30,000
Ys Napishtim 20,000
Metroid Prime Pinball 10,000
Lost Magic <10,000
Biohazard <10,000

If true, looks like the top 10 is still being owned by Animal Crossing, Brain Training etc.

Biohazard less than 10K? That won't make CVX happy!

Also, what is the deal with the spike in PSP hardware sales?

Those rumors bette rbe as off as the past DS - 40k PSP - 80k rumor and more close or Nintendo's gona need to start shipping in their sleep as well.

Also, how's REDS sell < 10k but 30k the first day? O.O

Sounds like someone a little too pro PSP made this up, but you can never be too sure.

SFA3 above Biohazard? Find that hard to believe.

well they restocked this week, so next week should be better. :D

They can't have restocked that much. Amazon Japan is still completely out of stock and still not accepting pre-orders.

I <3 Katamari said:
No, they didn't. If they did, sales would not be that low.

See? That's why I'm saying the fad is almost over. They restocked the shelves and only 20k sold.

And I believe they said the end of January. Last week is not the end of January, is it?

It can be argued that it is.

80,000 PSPs sold? Bollocks - it's probably 40-50,000 or lower.
