Alright, time for izzy to come in here and point out that monster hunter is climbing the charts. :)

5 DS million sellers in the top 10 next week? I approve.

Kingdom Hearts 2 crosses one million.

And Monster Hunter Portable keeps going strong. It will hit over 500K, crazy. Why is the PSP version so popular?

Well, he HAS to find SOMETHING worth praising for the PSP camp. :)

Still, it's a very noteworthy success.

Apparently continued shortages have stunted DS software sales for the week. When hardware sales climb again so will software.

:lol Too late.

And Monster Hunter Portable (PSP) continues to climb up the chart - currently it's at No.6 - 37,000 units sold last week, and 377,000 units (!) LTD.

Just for comparison, the best selling Monster Hunter game on PS2 sold 100,000 copies less.

LOL. I thought AC dropped off the map, but then I realized:

2. (DS, Nintendo) Oideyo Doubutsu no Mori - 50,000 / 1,565,000

is AC's name in Japan. :lol

Capcom must really be pleased of Monster Hunter's performance on PSP.
They have already put their focus on PSP development, now these sales should strengthen their position.

So predictable!!

And yes it is a huge drop this week as I said a few days ago.

It's gonna be a fairly predictable week though:

Brain Training 2: 150k
Animal Crossing: 75k
Mario Kart DS: 55k
Brain Training: 50k
Kingdom Hearts II: 40k
Mario & Luigi 2: 35k

etc

PSP: 55k
DS: whatever Nintendo can ship

Actually even more than I thought, but it's normal- holidays are over.

Indeed - it's on its way to outsell every single GC/PS2 RE game in Japan.

Guess the Monster Hunter Portable success goes to show PSP games can sell well in Japan if developers give gamers what they want.

What it is, I don't know...I'm baffled by the success of this game.

Stupid comparison, but it must pass 400K to go beyond Zero, 450K to go beyond the first Outbreak and who knows where biohazard 4 is now.

As it shouldn't!

Wow, Mario Kart will hit 1 mil next week and Brain Training 2 next week or the week after, without a doubt. Tamagotchi should hit 1 mil by the end of February. And Animal Crossing could hit 2 mill by the end of March/mid April or something like that. Insane.

PSP - 100k
DS - 70k
PS2- 25k
GBA:SP/Micro - 20k
GC - 10k
360 - Solid, but not spectacular.
5k

I pulled these numbers out of my butt.

When you mention those numbers for games like that it makes the 1.5 millions copies of animal crossing sold rather ridiculous.

Well the series is already pretty popular in Japan. And I imagine that in a multiplayer co-op focused title adhoc multiplayer actually suits Japanese playing habits more than online multiplayer.

Yeah but all other PSP games based off of PS2 versions sell much less than the PS2 game. This one is selling at a greater rate than the PS2 games. I suppose the multiplayer could be a compelling aspect.

Exactly. Animal Crossing has sold as much as all Resident Evils on GC combined:

RE: 360k
RE0: 450k
RE4: 220k

Plus Monster Hunter Portable (380k)

So there :p

I meant the resident evil series actually. The gap is headscratchin' large. Ridiculous as in ridiculously high (how do you spell that word anyways?)

Well, Resident Evil has simply stepped down as a high calibur seller. Combining the GC and PS2 releases of RE4 still yields a number lower than the combined CODE: Veronica. Safe to say, AC is in in Japan, BH... isn't really.

I don't think there's been as many PS2 -> PSP conversion in Japan as in the West. Hot Shots Golf is about the only one that comes to mind (and that is currently the highest selling PSP game, I what I hear is right). And Winning Elevens but that was considered a pretty shoddy port.

A few other possible contributing factors. Capcom supposedly beefed up the singleplayer game, and as far as I'm aware it's everything in the PS2 versions plus more stuff. Also it may have been boosted by the dearth of other high-profile PSP games lately.

Are Mario 64 DS and Wario Ware million sellers too?
According to Famitsu as of December 25th.

DS Sawaru Made in Wario - 855,5565
DS Super Mario 64 DS - 814,108

I think Wario might be able to crawl to a million, especially if its sales rise again thanks to the DS's increased popularity. If it can sell 12K for 12 months, which I suspect isn't impossible, then it'll get there.
