Yeah, the DS is closer to the wheel, or sliced bread.

I may be overlooking something, but why does Joshua have DSL at 4.92M and Rock_Man at above 5M?

Joshua has his figures at 32 weeks. It is actually 33 weeks since DS Lite was released.
Rock_man is correct.

Oh shit. Looks like my HardwareRedesigns spreadsheet was missing the week of July 31. So probably all of my given values for the last 3 months have been off. :lol At least the graphical representation was correct. Here's the fixed version for this week.

DSL at 33 weeks: 5.09M

We will find this becoming "Does not compute" by the end of 2006, when DSL LTD surpasses GBASP :lol

"DS after DSL" at 33 weeks: 482K
"GBA after SP" at 33 weeks: 458K

It took 37 weeks to sell 24k GBA? That's amazing...

I don't know what Nintendo want to do with all these hardware and software shortages.
They cant produce enough carts for Pokemon, FF III, ... and still next thursday another huge seller will be released, so expect another game to have shortages in the next weeks. :)

Just think about December software sales with all these games: NSMB, Pokemon, Training games, FF III, Animal Crossing, ....
Even Mario Kart sells around 15k weekly in a non holiday period of time and I fully expect its sales will go up to 30k - 40k weekly this Christmass.

I hope Nintendo doesn't **** up this holiday with huge shortages.

no, it took 37 weeks for the GBA to reach 482K. It took 4 weeks for it to sell the 24k you speak of.

Well, between you and me, I really don't know how is Nintendo going to fix the situation in less than 2 months when they haven't been able to do it in 10 months.

Seriously, how are they going to put 1m for the 2 biggest weeks for example...They couldnt even get 300k for POKEMON, they just can do 100-150k NOW. And thats with NA/EU high sales but not Christmas-level sales!

How the hell are they going to split 2.2m DS for ALL December for ALL markets? They seem to need that much just for Japan!

Then comes the games, slower sales because less new adopters to buy some software. Lots of games suffering from 1 year legs and shortages: New Mario, Brain, Brain 2, Mario Kart, FF3....yet to see if any other suffers: ToT, Common Sense, WE DS, Kirby, Yoshi...

Well, they've clearly got a lot stockpiled somewhere. They aren't selling 2.2M/month right now, thats for sure.

It's threads like these (and the ensuing commentary) that really puts how ridiculously amazing the DS success is in the proper light.

People are being disappointed by sales of 104K.

yeah. oh no the DSL didn't quite sell twice as much as everything else put together. DOOOOOOOOOM!

has anyone considered that the Wii might be impacting how many DSLs nintendo can make also? i'm presuming it uses the same plastics for the case as the DSL does.

they're obviously stockpiling for christmas for both, but theres only so much plastic and so many factories.

the whole plastic shortage thing is crazy too.

What did it sell last month just in the U.S. and Japan?

403,000+500-600,000? Thats a Million right there. How many units did the DS move around the rest of the world?

It could be alot closer to that number then you think.

Monthly DS sales since March 06 (Only USA + Japan):

mar-06 736.143
abr-06 1.175.820
may-06 892.901
jun-06 1.194.560
jul-06 1.284.392
ago-06 879.275
sep-06 1.023.097

And in Europe DS is on fire too...

Nintendo needs to build a new factory or something, maybe from LEGO? not as stable as bricks... but they need some new factories and quick :lol

Talking of the news that Nintendo has had one million copies of General Knowledge Training ordered, that certainly bodes well for its initial performance. New Super Mario Bros. had something like 1.6 million order by retail and managed 900,000 units in its first week.

I still say ~300,000 mininum for week one.

By the way, anyone care to quickly list the upcoming dates of some new DS games, please?

PSP '06 vs. PSP '05: -24,384

GBA sales increased 44% this week compared to last week. I guess some of those buyers looking for a DS that couldn't find one just bought a GBA instead

Guessing ...

4.4 million from October-November:
1.4 million U.S.
2.2 million EU
0.8 million Japan

2.2 million December:
1.8 million Japan
0.2 million U.S.
0.2 million EU

i.e. You're right. It's impossible to satisfy all markets. :(

Is it because Nintendo is going all out to produce Wii that DS shortages haven't been rectified? Like, could they be using some of those factories to make DS hardware, instead of Wii? 'Cause if so, they're really counting on Wii to do well this holiday. They could, essentially, print money with more DS units on the market.

They've saved some for the holiday season (probably short after production started, still never enough though).

"PS2 Sangokushi 11" isn't on last week's Media-Create list at all, and it's #10 on Famitsu's list. :lol

Great, cheers for that. So the battle on 26th is pretty hot. Any predictions? Mine, which will likely be miles off since I'm terrible at this 'educated guessing' lark, are:

General Knowledge Training ~300,000
Tales of the Tempest ~90,000
Phoenix Wright 2 ~55,000
Pinky Street ~25,000
Lode Runner ~3,500

Whatever the case, it's a hot week for sales...as is the following one, with Kirby and PES pitted against each other!

I'm very worried Nintendo won't be able to capitalize on software and hardware sales this christmas.

They NEED this Christmas to shoot Pokemon, New Super Mario, FFIII, Animal Crossing and Yoshi's Island/ToT/Winning Eleven/Kirby...

Oh my God there is no ****ing way for them to capitalize in Japan on Christmas.

We need a miracle *looks to heaven*

I'm thinking Jesus has slightly more important things to do than worry about game/console sales.

That aside, Nintendo will probably follow the route of BT and ACWW. No big jumps, but just keeps selling and selling and selling and selling and selling and...

Totally. At ~100 weeks, the comparison has now put GBASP at spring 2004. DS is out and soon to hit Easter while GBASP dives down. The second 100 weeks will be much easier to catch up with.

At the end of the year, we will be comparing DS million sellers Vs PSone million sellers, and at the end of 2007, who knows, we will compare DS Million Sellers Vs NES.

They say the next gen war is "heating up" with Blue Dragon, Is it a fake?

I don't believe there is a plastic shortage. I believe this "cartridge shortage" refers to the throughput of Nintendo's DS game manufacturing plants being near to/at their max which makes it harder to do quick turnarounds of unexpected big sellers.
