Yay! 500k!

Second week in a row for NSMB:Wii. Anything coming out next week that could dethrone it? It's pretty crazy that a 6 month old game is number 1 and a game that is nearly 2 years old is number 2.

Slow week.

For Hardware I'd say it will go DS>PSP>Wii>PS3>360>PS2

of course the PS3 and Wii could switch but other than that I think everything will be the same.

Congrats to Suda on his biggest domestic sales success.

And he wasn't even involved with it! (which he made explicitly clear)

Neir, it will dethrone it.

Random fact here from Store owners blogs in Japan: Amazon.co.jp's price is cheaper then they can get some games/hardware from Whole salers. If it was legal, Retail stores could actually make more profit from amazon.com and then re-selling the stuff. Some of the store owners are a bit suspicious of amazon it seems.

Didn't the first No More Heroes on Wii did the same, a little over 2 years ago..with 10k in just 1 day? ..then ending with around 40k (LTD).

If anything, the game is selling on par with it..per console.

EDIT:
Just checked and that's what it seems..
#10 game in sales back then, sold more than the #1 game in this chart...so that's in part why this 2 versions of NMH charted in the Top 10.

Serious question: What should Suda do if he wants to make something that sells? Everything he seems to create sells only a few thousand...

VOOK

We don't know why he keeps buying PAL, either.
Am a seeing this right? The Japanese market seems to be in the shits...

The NMH sales are quite interesting.
I'm looking forward to seeing how the different NieR versions compare.
Fully expecting a Bayonetta rerun, but it could go either way at this point.

Huh surprised at how HGSS has fallen so low. I remember Platinum sticking around for a looooong time.

Any reason why the 360 version of NMH is the only uncensored one?

360 is the hardcore nerd console, I guess the demographic is unlikely to be turned off by the Cero Z rating.

Interesting NMH sales. Looks like the better and more focussed promotion - and, arguably, an audience more in tune with this type of game - has helped.

Imagine what could have been if Marvelous had pushed the first release with more than some signed loo roll! ;-)

Thoughts on this week's chart:

Wow, it's really different from the Famitsu one, as far as the bottom half is concerned especially. It'll definitely be interesting the two when the Famitsu numbers are available. FotNS continuing to do neck to neck with Yakuza 4 seems to indicate that the menly-men-beating-each-other-up 3D genre definitely has more room for growth. Sega and Capcom should seriously consider doing quality 3D entries of Bare Knuckle and Final Fight respectively to attempt to get a piece of that pie. NMH doing pretty well for a crappy port-up job of a game no one really cared much for previously... don't really know what to think... don't really... care.

About NMH Wii sales:

I'll like to point out, there is no way in hell that NMH on Wii did 40k in Japan, even though that's what a press release regarding the game's performance worldwide said. We have the Top500 charts for 2007 and 2008 from both MC and Famitsu, NHM came out in Dec 2007. It only charted on the Top500 of Famitsu for 2007, with about 20k sold. It did not chart on the Top500 for 2008, even though the 500th title did about 19k. NMH did not chart on either Top500 charts of Media Create.

40k shipped sounds possible, with it perhaps topping out somewhere around 25-30k in actual sales.

Yes, 40k shipped makes sense, I'm just pointing out that as long as we're comparing actual tracked sales, we should be careful not to fall into the shipped=sold trap especially when there's evidence that the shipment did -not- sell out.

Another slow week... next week can't come soon enough.

Guys, one question, I remember Chris was posting recently total ltd numbers for old consoles like Dreamcast and so, could you indicate me where I can find them? Thanks.

On a related note, how the hell did Killer 7 manage to avoid that rating?

I remember there was an episode or chapter where a guy
took the head of the other guy's daughter, showed it to him to make him suffer while watching. If that isn't Cero Z rating, I don't know what it is then.

Kenka Banchou 4 on the PSP has also done well, not sure what the current LTD for it right now but a few weeks ago it was at:

Famitsu Mar 22-28

[PSP] Kenka Banchou 4: Ichinen Sensou (One Year War) (Spike) - 7,878 / 147,249

http://neogaf.net/forum/showpost.php?p=20659735&postcount=389

Two weeks since than It's stayed in the top 30 in the Media Create Sales:

Makes me wonder how much better Yakuza on the PSP could end up doing.

Who said it avoided it? It was rated CERO18 when it was released.

Oh, o.k that makes sense. Now for the next question:

how in the world did it manage to get a normal M rating in NTSC territories? 'cause I sure as hell went into the next gaming store, bought the game while watching kids under ten asking the clerk how much it costed (.. and the price was on the shelf)

what's the ESRB code for the "rating of death" in America called? "P-R" or something?

With Killer 7, it was the only time I thought "wow, that's strong material" from all the 40+ games I played on my gamecube.

AO, but there's no real equivalent since console makers won't even license AO games as the Manhunt 2 controversy reminded us.
