As it should be, its Hometek territory leading the losses.

Operating Income by Region:
Japan: 5,537m yen
NA: -3,324m yen
Europe: -388m yen
Asia: 2,768m yen

They are pretty fucked though, I don't see any title that qualifies for a 2m overshipment like SC4 and Tekken 6 did.

I knew it was cheap, but was it cheap even by re-release standards?

It's not a re-release. It does not contain the single player mode of the game at all. It was like 20 bucks or so because it's solely a multiplayer expansion. You don't need MPO to play, but it only contains an expanded version of the multiplayer and extra missions modes.

Capcom's Sales and Earnings Fall
Company expects rebound for following year due to major releases.

Nintendo isn't the only major publisher seeing lower sales and profits. Capcom issued its own earnings report today, detailing sharp drops in sales and profits for the year ended March 31, 2010.

Sales for the year decreased to ¥66,837 million, down 27.3% from 2009's ¥91,878 million. Operating income was down 61.8%, from ¥14,618 million to ¥5,587 million.

As reason for the declines, Capcom mentioned poor performance from games like Bionic Commando (PS3/X360), Resident Evil Darkside Chronicles (Wii) and Dark Void (PS3/X360).

Additionally, it seems that Lost Planet 2 and Super Street Fighter IV were originally scheduled for earlier release, as Capcom cited their delays to the 2011 fiscal year as contributing to depressed sales in overseas markets.

Success stories included Monster Hunter Tri (Wii), Ace Attorney Investigations (DS) and Resident Evil 5 Alternative Edition (PS3/X360). These all "performed satisfactorily."

For 2011, the company expects net sales to increase to ¥95,000 million and operating income to ¥15,000 million. This sharp rebound will come from the release of major titles, the company said.

The terminology I used was wrong, you're right that's it pretty much an expansion pack. I asked by 're-release standards' because I was wondering if it was priced as such, it did have a new SP player mode. It's not like I didn't call it an expansion pack either.

I still wonder how many sales a similar addition might generate when Peace Walker doesn't have any infrastructure mode to give longevity to the multiplayer. We aren't talking about a product build to its core around Co-OP play, like Monster Hunter.

I still wonder how many sales a similar addition might generate when Peace Walker doesn't have any infrastructure mode to give longevity to the multiplayer for individual owners. It's one thing when the game is basically built entirely around the concept of co-op play (Like Monster Hunter) and is incredibly popular, it's another when the co-op/multiplayer is an addition to the core product and with a series that is much less popular.

I don't think Infrastructure really matters at all in Japan to be honest. Phantasy Star Portable 2 added Infrastructure, and it didn't result in any increase of sales. The sequel did not even sell as much as the original. On the other hand, God Eater is a brand new IP without Infrastructure, and it has already surpassed the sales of PSP2.

It doesn't mean much at all when you can easily continue playing with friends or find new friends with the game to play with in person. For those hardcore gamers who want to find online matchmaking, and who actually own a wireless router at home, they most likely also own consoles and PCs. I was on the Japanese Adhoc Party earlier today, and I did a game search for Peace Walker and found a very healthy number of games out there. In some lobbies there were like 5-6 full 4 player games going, and 5-6 players hanging around the lobby waiting for slots to join.

Edit: I see you edited something:

Ps3 still above Wii this going 3 weeks now.
Thought Wii would be back on top after the first week.

I just don't know what to say about Namco.
Still angry that they won't bring over Tales of Vesperia for ps3 but still they have no big games coming that can help them .
In fact i can't remember the last time i bought a Namco game.

Not really that surprising, Wii hasn't had any notable software release for months.

Considering PS3 saw the release of Street Fighter this week and NIER last week and Wii didn't see a notable release in what feels like ages it still performed better than deserved. I can see this changing when Mario Galaxy 2 releases and doesn't perform as well as deservd, though :(.

Also, Damn, look at PSP go. Seriously, outselling DS FY so far is pretty damn good. However, have you ever seen a piece of hardware do sooo well in another country but do so absolutely abysmal in another country before?

I mean US PSP sales are in the shitter and probably won't be coming out of it until PSP2(or a price drop), but it just chugs along in Japan like its king of the castle. just amusing to me.

Well, you have to consider that stores can actually return overstocked copies of games (or in some cases do a chargeback for the cost difference between what they sold the game for and what they paid for it). The ones that get returned might get shipped out again, but usually to overstock vendors who pay significantly less.

What's your definition of "sooo" well? Subsequently, what qualifies as absolutely abysmal? The 360 is an obvious example. Does well in the U.S. but pathetically in Japan. Depending on what you mean, then the N64 and Saturn can fit the bill as well. So does the Genesis.

I don't believe this exists in Japan.

I haven't seen this mentioned yet, so I'm just going to throw it out there: Do any of you think Japan will soon see a Wii price cut now that NA is basically getting one (with the new black and white bundles, which will retail for $199)? Or, will Japan finally get a Wii + Wii Sports + Wii Sports Resort + Wii Motion+ bundle?

but it won't be released in NA or Europe and it won't sell 500k in Japan so it won't even make the Ben 10 Top 10 Software That Actually Made An Impact chart next fiscal results :p

First one did, why wouldn't the second? And before you say "double-dip factor" that would be offset by the "not being a year-old port factor".

:p

You would think so, but who knows with Nintendo Japan.

They'll raise the price. Maybe take out the controllers to be purchased separately, too. It's already overpriced based on currency exchange, and there's no bundled software, either. Figures Nintendo would take further steps to make it sell less in Japan. Maybe delay their next game, too. Just because.

Namco Bandai probably has a few more DragonBall games besides TAG Vs in development. Should be boosted by Kai airing in other countries this year, but I don't think they'll dethrone Ben 10.

Wii is fucking dead in terms of software support. There's been what, 5 games in famitsu in the last month or something like that?

*goes back to MH3*

This all started to happen after Namco Bandai decided to shift their focus from 360 to PS3..

Yeah..360's sales went up almost 130% from last week. Whereas the wii and ps3 sales only went up around 30%. The tide is slowly turning in x360's favor. Jimbo must be proud.
:lol. That'd be awesome if he was given amnesty

I'm not going on numbers, purely popularity on YTD. As in, PSP in Japan is outselling the highest selling handheld console ever YTD, so it's doing soo well. Yet, in America, it's not even outselling a 10 year old home console, ie abymsal. I mean, if PSP outsold DS in America it'd be considered doing well, right?

So, not talking pure numbers, but overall market share is impressive in Japan, yet sorely lacking in US.

DS is well past its peak in Japan, unlike in America.

Thanks bttb.

So that comes out to a $228 million loss for Namco this year.

Well, thankfully this year's line is looking much better with such hit games as...

-Inversion
-Enslaved
-Clash of the Titans
-Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom
-Dead to Rights: Retribution
-Splatterhouse
and all time classic
-Namco Bandai is sooooooooo fucked

Dead to Rights is already a stinker, I can't imagine Enslaved and Splatterhouse are going to sell too well, but the one that's going to sink them is going to be Enslaved, probably not so cheap to make. WTF is namco doing.

What is expected of the new PES world cup edition.
To be wiped by Inazuma Eleven 3.

It isn't the yearly WE unlike in 2002 (WE6) or 2006 (WE10), its a last-year branded version with a subtitle (World Soccer Winning Eleven 2010: Aoki Samurai no Chousen).

So its not comparable to WE6-WE10, even if its gets a good push as usual, there will be a proper WE2011 coming in November or so.

Easy, letting Hometek decide for them. Hometek has been posting losses for years due to being run by assholes, yet Namco Bandai Japan gives them even more power and all those sent-to-die projects get green light and become the company focus. Its only natural for Hometek capabilities of turning losses to spread to their entire company, exponentially hopefully.
