Considering the Pay for Play nature of Monster Hunter 3, it is tracking better than I thought, good news for CAPCOM and Nintendo :D :D :D

How long till IX beats VII?

I think Chris1964 had a chart in the previous MC thread, and it DQIX is already ahead of pace compared to VII now.

Pretty durn impressive.

Going by Famitsu, a little over two more weeks like this one. Maybe by the end of September?

I'm starting to think that Wada might get his wish of five million. (Nah, but maybe 4.25 million, at this rate.)

Well all the people calling bomb early are looking silly now. I don't expect this to curb their nature though.

I wonder if Nintendo will ever figure out that their current marketing method sucks, new IPs keep bombing and sequels aren't selling as well as their predecessors (although the genre did change in this case it's not much of an excuse).

WTF is Tomadachi and why are its legs getting longer?

Animal Crossing/Sims + Miis

This was a holiday week, which explains the large increase. The general increase would be due to general word of mouth.

cvxfreak said:
The latter.

The PSP userbase obviously didn't come over to Wii. :lol

Oh, this was a holiday week. That explains it.

Does this make MH3 the best-selling 3rd party console game in Japan now?

Slow week overall? There are almost no new releases.

Holiday week (Obon). Games tend to get released the week before a holiday week and not during.

For home consoles, yes.

Tomodachi Collection has now increased in weekly sales for five straight weeks.

Not surprising at all but since it's not something the gaming media picks up on, like Girl's Mode it flew under most radars that aren't based in Japan. It's a pretty cool game and appeals to an open audience like Brain Training, Nintendogs and the like. It plays kinda like the Sims meets Animal Crossing.

Actually the all the recent big releases on Nintendo systems are actually holding pretty well. Nice to see.

It's Tingle and it's niche. Look at the other Nintendo games on the list.

I'd say increasing for five straight weeks is very surprising. I dont know how it can be anything else.

Like most of Nintendo's stuff that's not Mario/Zelda it was announced no more than a month in advance and it's not something the day 1 gamers would flock to. It was well-made and so it wasn't a stretch to think it'd sell via word-of-mouth like several similar titles have already done. NeoGAF: Believe.

03./06. [WII] Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo) - 105,000 / 1,006,000 (+44%)

Welcome to the million sellers club (Not that it was ever in doubt), now how far will this go. especially as it should get Wii Fit/Sports like legs?

Anyway, MH3 chugging along (It'll reach 900k before disappearing from the charts, but will reach 1million by January), and even MH2G decided to come along for the ride.

So Wii Sports Resort is officially a non-game.

Wow at DQIX. Kinda surprised that Tales of VS did not remain in the top five to be honest.

Sales-Age Genius
I just noticed that the BEST version of Dragon Quest VIII has sold a respectable amount. According to famitsu 2008 top 500 it is:
[PS2] Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King (Ultimate Hits) (Square Enix) (20/07/06) - 138.700
That puts the total number at 3.538.860 + 138.700 = 3.677.560, which agrees with the total shipment of 3,7M.

Dragon Quest VII on the other hand had two BEST versions:
[PS] Dragon Quest VII: Eden no Senshi-tachi (PSOne Books) (Square Enix) (02/03/05)
[PS] Dragon Quest VII: Eden no Senshi-tachi (Ultimate Hits) (Square Enix) (20/07/06)
but none of them has managed to chart. So it's a mystery where the shipment of 4,15M has gone. The most possible scenario is that famitsu has really undertracked the game as I don't think there are 250.000 copies of the game at Japanese retailers.

Anyway here's the new chart updated with the BEST version of DQ VIII. I guess we have to wait one more week so that we finally have DQIX>DQVIII.

A budget version of DQVII is available at most retailers brand new. The same goes for a bunch of SE's PSone titles, including ones that were rereleased on the GBA or DS afterwards.

MHP2G Best has gone up 4 weeks straight, one week shy of Tomodachi record:
11k -> 18k -> 21k -> 24k -> 28k

Anyway, this one, Tomodachi and everyone else are going to sink big time next week. Hardware too. The top3 which is well over 100k will barely crack 50k next week, and those are the ones with immense legs, imagine the rest.

What a flop FMA Wii btw, on PS2 Square-Enix released 3 FMA titles to 250k, 149k and 64k. This one will probably do as much as ~30k since that's what they shipped, or should we say overshipped.
Its weekend growth is also remarkable:
1st day - [WII] Hagane no Renkinjutsushi: Akatsuki no Ouji (Square Enix) - 6,600 (23%)
1st week - 22. [WII] Hagane no Renkinjutsushi: Akatsuki no Ouji (Square Enix) - 6,700 / NEW

Whooping 100 units.

Now are the numbers for MH3 good because it has staying power or because it has price collapsed?

Not sure.

Still full price in my town.

Congrats Vinnk!

Have the downloadable quests in DQ 9 started yet (still a bit unsure on how that works) and if not, what are the chances that the new content is going to be desirable enough to push the game to 5 million?
