I concur. Wii will pull ahead of PS360 next week, and fall behind again that week.

As a side thing, I really dislike sticklers for "staying on topic" to the point where they bemoan every post that isn't specifically about the topic title. A little meandering in a thread isn't a bad thing, in my opinion, especially in the threads that tend to have the same people in them week after week (or a small forum where it's all the same people in every thread). You see the same people post, and you get to talking about stuff that isn't necessarily tied to the thread title. We all probably know what we're in this thread for, but it doesn't mean we can't stray off-topic sometimes.

NeoGAF seems to be pretty good about allowing some reasonable thread wanderings, though.

No reason why they would. They've proven they can continually sell two sequels side by side with great success with Brain Training.

Brain Training 2 didn't have 80% of what was in Brain Training 1, though. I think Wii Fit will be discontinued some time in early 2010. Maybe they'll ship the last of it in this fiscal year (through March 2010).

Is it right that Capcom's last platinum console title in Japan was Onimusha 2, or am I missing something obvious?

If you combine Biohazard 4 on GC, PS2 and Wii, then that one went Platinum, too.

But for a single SKU/game, it was indeed Onimusha 2.

There probably won't be an official price drop in Japan till the slim, but I imagine a number of retailers will drop the price themselves. Japan's prices seem to flow a lot more with the free market, rather than be fixed to the MSRP (like in the US). At least that was my experience in Tokyo when I was there last.

I guess word got out in Japan that the US is getting a PS3 price drop. Expect lower sells of PS3 in Japan till they get the cheaper slim too.
Ehn, I don't think they know/care about the price drops on the fat one elsewhere, but you'd have to be a complete idiot to pay 40000 today for something when you can wait a week or two and pay 30000. The Slim was one of the worst kept secrets in recent history.

If there isn't a price drop backed by Sony, there won't be a price drop. There's flowing with the free market and then there's eating 10000 yen per system sale when you could just wait for the hardware manufacturer to cover that for you.

Technically, until the gender of a baby is revealed, one is correctly referred to as 'it.' That's why you see baby announcements phrased as "It's a boy!" or "It's a girl!"

Ye, it is true what you say about Brain Training, but as donny2112 mentioned, Brain Training 2 doesnt have much of the stuff that Brain Training 1 has. I think that Wii Fit Plus has everything that Wii Fit already has + some extra stuff. If Wii Fit Plus has everything that Wii Fit has, i dont think that many people would want to buy Wii Fit instead of Wii Fit Plus (unless that Wii Fit is relatively much cheaper).

Do you mean why Nintendo will discontunie Wii Fit or why Nintendo might ship their last Wii Fit in March 2010 or so? If it is about discontunie Wii Fit, then Nintendo might replace Wii Fit with Wii Fit Plus :)

EDIT: Will Nintendo sell bundles of Wii Fit Plus and the Wii Balance Board from the same day that the standalone version of Wii Fit Plus gets released? Or will Nintendo contunie to sell the current Wii Fit bundle and hope that people will buy both Wii Fit (the bundle with the Wii Balance Board) and Wii Fit Plus. Maybe Nintendo make more money by doing this?

Wii Fit + is an expansion game for $29 and will also be in a $89 board bundle

Think of it as a Wii Play or Resort for the Balance Board

From what we know, it does not, but I think the few extra things that Wii Fit will have won't be enough to keep the original game around when 80% of its content is in Wii Fit Plus.

I don't think Wii Fit will be killed off completely.
Wii Fit will still be cheaper than the Wii Fit Plus and Balance Board combo.
Wii Sports has taken a hit since Wii Sports Resort came out, but it hasn't completely fallen off yet.

It was actually the worst kept secret since the PSPGo! Sony really needs to work on their PR department because the cat keeps being let out of the bag

Ah ok, so there will be a Wii Fit Plus bundle? Then i dont think that Nintendo will contunie with the current Wii Fit version? I think that it might be a bit confusing for people if there excist both a Wii Fit and Wii Fit Plus bundle at least. I was just thinking that maybe Nintendo would contunie to sell the current Wii Fit version, and then people could buy the standalone version of Wii Fit Plus. Couldnt Nintendo make more money this way? The current Wii Fit version also costs $89.99 (at least on Amazon.com). If people also buy Wii Fit Plus seperately, then that is $89 for Wii Fit and $29 for Wii Fit Plus. Now people can just buy the Wii Fit Plus bundle for $89, and they dont have to spend another $29 to get Wii Fit Plus. They will miss out on the current Wii Fit software though.

Oh, i thought that maybe it was something like that the "Wii Fit" part is the current version software/game and the "Plus" part is added content, but i might be wrong.

Ye, Wii Fit Plus adds quite much i must say, actually more than i first thought. I just checked the Wii Fit Plus part from Nintendo's E3 2009 press conference again and they say that Wii Fit Plus has 6 new strength and yoga activities and 15 new balance games. Some more stuff is added as well, like better personal options (or something like that). I also wonder if people want to buy the current Wii Fit version when Wii Fit Plus gets released.

If the current Wii Fit version has something that Wii Fit Plus doesnt have, maybe Nintendo will take the current Wii Fit bundle with the Wii Balance Board and replace it with the Wii Fit Plus bundle with the Wii Balance board instead, and sell the current version of Wii Fit as a standalone game, so people have the chance to buy the current Wii Fit version as well if they decide to buy the Wii Fit Plus bundle first?

Most of Wii Sports isn't reproduced in Wii Sports Resort, and a huge % (90+% ?)of Wii Sports Resort is all new. Wii Fit Plus, on the other hand, isn't offering "all new" stuff. It's offering "most of what was in Wii Fit plus a little more." Wii Fit Plus, as I understand this piece of software, is essentially a replacement for Wii Fit. It's not a pure superset, since Wii Fit has a few things not in Wii Fit Plus, but it's close enough of a superset to make buying Wii Fit after Wii Fit Plus pretty useless.

Based on the latest Famitsu hardware numbers... (from the week starting July 27)
PSP comparisons: After 243 weeks, PSP is where PS2 was at 195.2 weeks (November 24, 2003), where DS was at 103.5 weeks (November 23, 2006), and where GBA was at 163.5 weeks (May 6, 2004).

X360 comparisons: After 191 weeks, X360 is where GCN was at 17.8 weeks (January 12, 2002), where PS3 was at 39.5 weeks (August 9, 2007), and where Wii was at 5.7 weeks (January 5, 2007).

PS3 comparisons: After 143 weeks, PS3 is where PS2 was at 47.6 weeks (January 26, 2001), where PSP was at 70.6 weeks (April 13, 2006), where GCN was at 132.6 weeks (March 26, 2004), and where Wii was at 36.6 weeks (August 9, 2007).

Wii comparisons: After 140 weeks, Wii is where GBA was at 100.6 weeks (February 20, 2003), where DS was at 77.9 weeks (May 27, 2006), where PS2 was at 120.7 weeks (June 21, 2002), and where PSP was at 170.7 weeks (March 14, 2008).

DSi comparisons: After 40 weeks, DSi is where GBASP was at 54.8 weeks (February 28, 2004) and where DSL was at 20.2 weeks (July 18, 2006).

Based on the latest Media Create hardware numbers... (from the week starting August 10)
DS vs PSP: Weekly shares of 70.6 / 29.4 bring total shares to 68.4 / 31.6. If DS stopped selling and PSP continued at this week's rate, it would catch up in 369.6 weeks (September 16, 2016).

X360 vs PS3: Weekly shares of 60.7 / 39.3 bring total shares to 25.0 / 75.0. At this week's rates, X360 catches up to PS3 in 677.2 weeks (August 9, 2022). If PS3 stopped selling and X360 continued at this week's rate, it would catch up in 237.9 weeks (March 9, 2014).

PS3 vs Wii: Weekly shares of 11.1 / 88.9 bring total shares to 28.1 / 71.9. If Wii stopped selling and PS3 continued at this week's rate, it would catch up in 859.9 weeks (February 8, 2026).

Week over week, everything is up, though it's almost unnoticeable for PS2/PS3/Wii. Seems like a holiday bump which these systems have countered by being old/about to be replaced/coming down from another bump.
X360

Through the first thirty-three weeks of the year, overall sales are down. However, the systems can be split into camps of 3 up and 3 down. Here's how the year-to-date year-over-year percents stand as of now.

Wii: -54.8%
DSL+DSi: +13.9%
PS2: -52.0%
PS3: +3.0%
PSP: -46.3%
X360: +105.7%

Home hardware: -36.1%
Portable hardware: -19.8%
Sum of all hardware: -26.4%

And about RE5, for some reason i don't think it will come to the Wii, at least not in the near future, i think it will come, like, at the end of the system's life.

I am positive that MonHun tri will reach a million.

I wish they bundled the PS3 slim with a better game.

I don't see PS3 hitting a record high or anything, but it looks like it will get a reprieve from running straight into the sales numbers from the last two years again:

Easy to remember because that was FFIII DS's launch week. :D

..and looking at NSMB legs through the summer weeks is impressive as well. I did not remember anymore what an ugly beast it was in the charts back in 2006. Dragon Quest barely looks like a worthy contender compared to this one :

Famitsu sales for NSMB - first ten weeks (thanks to Garaph) :

WS - Cumulated

at week 10, it was still above 100'000 units sold per week with an absurd drop rate. Still at 40'000 on its second Christmas bump 80 weeks later.

Ah, Jean-Luc Picard indeed. I dont know why i didnt think of his name concidering that i have been watching Star Trek The Next Generation from Monday to Friday for some months now (a TV station here is broadcasting one Star Trek The Next Generation episode each day from Monday to Friday, and i havnt seen many of these episodes before, so i think it is cool to watch them for the first time now :)). I didnt know that Jean-Luc Picard was based on a real guy's name, that is cool to know :)
