Is this the week where PS3 sold 150k units?

Did they all buy the one game? I'd have thought we'd see a lot more PS3 games pushing up near the top 10 but it doesn't seem so.

Of course, also interesting that VC and Yakuza 3 didn't chart and that MNG5 didn't chart on Famitsu.

Damn, I was hoping to see a reappearance of Valkyria in the top 30 from the Slim Effect. It is interesting to see that many copies of Trusty Bell sold though.

I thought PS3 games would get more of a bump this week. Will it end up the same as psp with good hw sales and low sw sales from now on? Too soon to tell maybe.

cw_sasuke

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

The title of the game could be the most Ironic thing that will happen this Fall to Nintendo.

Yes, DS and Wii probably wont sell this holiday season and there will be no new announcments at their fall conference...sure :D

VC sold like shit, why would it re-appear now?

We don't know why he keeps buying PAL, either.

Is that PSP Monster Hunter 2G on the chart includes only the "Best" (greatest hits) version, or both the original release + the best?

onken said:

It reappeared when it dropped into "The Best" and the new anime started so I figured it would appear again with the slim, oh well, maybe Top 50.

Sold enough to become a best of after word of mouth and anime.
Now there's sequel buzz and more DLC planned for the coming months for the original.

Only the best, MH2G sold 2.5m plus by now.

Edit: beaten.

Absolutely, but it is a little less than I expected off the back of such a big week. Sinobi said Little King Story sold ~6500 units at No. 16. I blame Gundam for stealing the spotlight.

I also expected more off such a huge HW number, hopefully it's a case of new gamers just wanting Gundam and not the used market and there'll be some games charting next week's charts, but I doubt it.

Hmm, I hadn't thought about that. Wasn't the rule that if you add DLC to a game without trophies it needed a trophy patch to go with it? (like the upcoming Lemmings)

Hmm, it isn't scheduled to be released until Jan of next year so... maybe?
I'll dream at least.

Looking back, it's pretty clear that the Wii has been in trouble since about the middle of last year. It's seems to me the Wii, with its current feature set and games lineup, is unpalatable at its current price. In other words, by keeping the system at this price Nintendo has seriously depressed its sales. So it doesn't matter that other market leading consoles didn't experience a sustained bump due to a price drop, given that their price drops (apparently) helped avoid the sustained slump the Wii has seen. My very first Gaf graph:

PS2Wii.png

Note: I took the price cut dates from here, looked up the sales for that week from Garaph, and found the week number with those sales from the original data. I haven't done this before so I might have messed something up.

Note that the PS2 didn't slump as low as the Wii toward the end of that year and kicked its ass coming in to year 3. (Price Drop 2 is the PS2's second holiday season, while Suck is the Wii's third. Because of their launch dates those seem like the best comparison.) In short, the Wii probably won't be able to get its momentum back without a price drop and some great games. This fall will be a critical time: Just releasing NSMB Wii and praying a lot won't do it, and after this fall they probably don't have any games big enough to regain that momentum even with a price drop.

Famitsu:
PS3 hardware: 151.000

1. PS3 software in top 30: 185.000
2. PS3 software in top 30 + PS3 new releases outside of top 30: 188.650

1. Software to hardware ratio: 1,23
2. Software to hardware ratio: 1,25

When media create posts total software sales tomorrow we will have a good estimate of the total PS3 software that was sold this week. As of now it looks that many PS3 slim buyers are already PS3 fat owners. On the other hand there wasn't any big title to push the software more. Either way the following 3-4 weeks and the rate slim sales decline with show if PS3 slim has the PSP slim effect or not.

Wow, PS3 software sales are still pretty damn sad despite the massive Slim sales, Gundam aside.

And what is that Tomodachi Collection shit that consistently outsells DQIX?!

Yeah, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid: Other M, Dragon Quest X, and a new Zelda game on the horizon are all meaningless. The Wii could never rebound, even with a price drop! Also, I don't know if you're familiar with Japanese culture (I'm an expert)...

but with those weird and crazy legs, it could pull a brain age and beat DQIX in a few months/years.

I wonder what the ratio of double dippers to new owners is? Is there currently a large stock of used fat PS3's at game stores? All those consoles would receive owners, though just might take awhile.

It would be interesting to know how many of those 151k double dipped. I don't know enough to guess if it would even be a substantial amount.

Edit: Even further, could new slim owners have bought a bunch of used games? This would explain the less than expected sales this week of old top sellers.

smh

Pretty poor showing for old PS3 games. I thought we could see MGS4, GTA4, COD4, Valkyrie, PYS6, Uncharted, Mingol5, RE5, Yakuza3 or GT5P. But just MGS4 charts on both Famitsu and Media Create :/

Wii being in its yearly post-Obon slump isn't surprising, but the PSP is pretty weak lately, and I can't see this being PSP Go fault. When was the last time SCEJ put out some new colors? We just have 8 or 9, it could use two new pairs!
