And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?

Is there any reason why Media Create split Inazuma Eleven 3's sales, despite combining them before?

Also, still nice to see Super Mario Galaxy 2 hanging on, though it's a shame New Super Mario Bros Wii completely died out.
Seems only the US can support both titles.

NSMB is probably still within the top 30. I wouldn't call it dead.

I still think Narikiri Dungeon marketing hurt it. If you weren't paying close attention you'd think it was just another release of Tales of Phantasia.

It'll do ok, and at least make some money for Tales studio, but properly marketed I think it would've opened around 150k, not 110k.

How does the Tales game compare to other Tales games fw?

Better opening than Vesperia X360, Tales of Innocence (those were ~100k)
About the same as Graces
Worse than any of the Radiant Mythology games or Tales of Versus (those were ~130k+)
Way worse than big PS2/PS3 Tales (200-300k)

I'm guessing PSP will never get a real Tales again after this. Why make real Tales for PSP, when you can make fanservice spinoffs Tales for PSP that will sell better.

This week it's Obon in Japan and Wii Party will go (way?) up. Last year Wii Sports Resort went from 73.089 to 104.972.

How is it stronger when it's selling less each week? Sans the 5th one. Also isn't Mario Bros Wii the top selling console game, well above any Wii ___ title?

You don't want to know
1 year with 3-4 hours per day

This isn't a leak. It's posted on 4Gamer, and they're a legit site. They say they'll be sharing the sales every week on Thursday from now on, which seems to to mean Wednesday night at midnight.

Different from the version of the charts that appear at Gpara and Inside Games, the 4gamer version splits the sales between SKUs (like Pokemon Black and White will each get a separate listing) and also show sales for the top 20. But they don't show entries 21 to 30. We'll find out tomorrow when Gpara and Inside Games post their charts if this is Media Create's new way of doing things, or if 4gamer has some sort of special deal set up.

I like Galaxy's staying power. Is it likely that it could stay to the holidays or is that completely out of the question at this point?

These numbers I think change a few assumptions from just a few weeks ago (which are where the home of the Tales games should be).

The assumption a few weeks ago were the Tales games should be on the PSP/PS3 because those ones sell the best.

What's the synopsis now?

I'll give my opinion. They should release every tales game, on the same date, on every system. Why not? The games aren't technically impressive. They shouldn't be hard to port. And the current system of switching the Tale's home every year obviously isn't working.

That way they can nurture Tales fans on all systems. And it would make porting the games to the West much more economically feasible. Seems win/win to me. And nobody feels left out.

Anyone else want to chime in?

01. / 00. [PSP] Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon X (Bandai Namco) - 108.356 / NEW
Expected worse given comgnet preorders and sales (which were less than 2/3rds of Vs. iirc) and yso guys predictions (most on the 80k-90k range), but still feels like Namco didn't quite market it well. On paper it should have been at least on Vs/RM1 numbers. Its not even good by post-PS2 standards. Barely better than straight ports but worse than outsourced spinoffs isn't hot at all for a 2nd rate remake with extra phantasia port. Okay maybe that last point actually goes against it :lol

03. / 01. [PS3] Sengoku Basara 3 (Capcom) - 57.021 / 299.719 (-77%)
12. / 11. [WII] Dragon Quest: Monster Battle Road Victory (Square Enix) - 13.198 / 205.640 (-37%)

It's time to move on, Nintendo.

I find hard to believe that 4Gamer will continue to provide top 20 with numbers and hardware every Wednesday midnight since this will make the Media Create site update almost unecessary. I hope this continues but I won't be surprised if next week they don't provide hardware or limit the numbers to top 10. It must be a hell of a deal with Media Create if this trend continues as it is right now.

The 5th week happens to be the most important one. It's the week that determines how well its going to sell compared to MP8. It's not as neck and neck as you think since Wii Party is going to start taking over very rapidly from now on.

Re ToPX

Do we have numbers for the GBC game?
The best selling psp Tales are original full 3D games but Namco decided to make a remake of a not that popular gbc game (I think, I'd appreciate if someone knows how many copies that game sold).

This "remake" has always seemed pointless to me. It seemed like after making Hearts they had some free staff and this game was the best choice they could choose, so actually I don't know if these sales are good/bad/okay for Namco.

Also announcing 3 Tales games (including 2 mainline and one sequel to a popular spinoff) the week before releasing the game wasn't the best idea in my opinion.

Impressive legs of Wii Party, but I'm happy mostly because of the return in the top 10 of Super Mario Galaxy 2. I'm really hoping it will break someday the million barrier.

Wikipedia said:
Obon (お盆) or just Bon (盆) is a Japanese Buddhist custom to honor the departed (deceased) spirits of one's ancestors. This Buddhist custom has evolved into a family reunion holiday during which people return to ancestral family places and visit and clean their ancestors' graves, and when the spirits of ancestors are supposed to revisit the household altars. It has been celebrated in Japan for more than 500 years and traditionally includes a dance, known as Bon-Odori.

The festival of Obon lasts for three days; however its starting date varies within different regions of Japan. When the lunar calendar was changed to the Gregorian calendar at the beginning of the Meiji era, the localities in Japan reacted differently and this resulted in three different times of Obon. "Shichigatsu Bon" (Bon in July) is based on the solar calendar and is celebrated around 15 July in areas such as Tokyo, Yokohama and the Tohoku region. "Hachigatsu Bon" (Bon in August) is based on the solar calendar, is celebrated around the 15th of August and is the most commonly celebrated time. "Kyu Bon" (Old Bon) is celebrated on the 15th day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar, and so differs each year. "Kyu Bon" is celebrated in areas like the northern part of the Kantō region, Chūgoku, Shikoku, and the Southwestern islands. These three days are not listed as public holidays but it is customary that people are given leave.

For everyone who does not know Obon. Included myself.

I would suggest perhaps releasing a version on all three viable platforms - for the purposes of the discussion I'm thinking PS3, Wii and PSP - would be the best route. The Tales style plays to the graphical weaknesses of the Wii/PSP platforms, and given that the games aren't particularly demanding you could have a nice dev setup building for Wii, porting down to PSP and up to PS3 without the issues you would have with something like, say, Dead Rising.

Frankly, I'm surprised that releasing a version of your main titles on all major platforms isn't already more common in Japan. Look at Basara 3 - it's going to end up selling most on the PS3, but once the Wii version tops out Capcom will have another 90-100k sold on top of wherever the PS3 version ends up, as well as bringing their game to another audience.

I'll chip in about how I feel regarding Narikiri Dungeon X in terms of sales.

Remember when several people were saying some time last year that Namco should most definitely just make a "real" Tales RPG for the PSP, and I disagree because I felt that the actual RPG audience for the series are on consoles (more specifically on the PS3 now), and that the PSP games sold really well because the audience "expects" fanservice games to be portable yet not a ton of them care to actually play a full RPG like Tales on portables?

Yeah, I think what we're looking at is evidence of this. The fanbase already knows that more mainline major RPGs are coming out on the PS3 in the near future. There is a Graces port coming in December, and next year there will be a brand new Tales on the PS3. They also know that Radiant Mythology 3 is coming out early next year, which is what they probably want anyway. Narikiri Dungeon X might have lots of ToP fanservice, but it doesn't have crossover fanservice for the ENTIRE series of Tales.

The game will end up doing about 200k like all Tales games do at least, which isn't bad considering it's an escort title. But I really don't think Namco has any reason to make an original non-fanservice Tales game on the PSP at all. They should keep releasing stuff like Radiant Mythology and Tales of Versus instead, while putting their main resources on consoles.

Why incorporate an Or strategy instead of an And strategy?

I'd assume that the best reason for doing so would be limited dev resources - in that case, you want to direct your time, money and manpower to developing on the platform that will give you the best return for your investment.

Because when you release 2-3 games a year. you don't want all of them to be the same thing (big main RPG) otherwise as we have actually SEEN in the last few years, you basically destroy interest. People get burnt out, and they're less interested. That's why main Tales sales declined from over 500k to under 500k.

If you're going to want to release 2-3 games a year anyway, it makes sense to have one main game on consoles, supported by fanservice games developed externally which has shown to be a release format that the fanbase embraces. They don't mind buying a silly crossover game in Summer, and then a major Tales RPG in Winter.

Personally, I'm just glad that Namco can finally focus on a single platform for main titles and another for spinoffs/quick ports like with PS1/GBC and PS2/GBA.

PS3/PSP certainly took long enough :p

At least I hope going into the next gen, they don't get into the same mess.

Looking at the Wii LTD and weekly sales, it's becoming increasingly clear that it won't ever reach the PS2. PS3 LTD may even over the long term come to compare favourably with it in a hypothetical scenario where this generation does last ten years.

Interesting.

Don't have much more to add other than the fact that the Miis seem to have replace Mario as Nintendo's go-to mascot for "new" IPs.
