Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
Not to completely excuse Nintendo, but at least in terms of looking at Wii/PS3 I think its worth noting that Wii had a much bigger late November/December lineup (at least in terms of Japanese-centric releases). Q1 looks incredibly bad for the Wii, but I don't it necessarily means all development has dried up.

Oh, I totally forgot about GT5. That game alone should be enough for Sony to win Q1 in Japan. Star Ocean 4 should also do well. I don't know about End of Eternity.
Is Yakuza 4 a Q1 title in Japan?

Nintendo, Nintendo...what will you do? They certainly can't afford a 2009 repeat...

You don't think Reginleiv is enough to carry Nintendo for 3 months?!? :lol

I do suspect that NSMB Wii might bail them out to some extent though.

Which Media Create report is this?

I saw that Chris1964 mentioned >500k for New Super Mario Bros Wii previously, but i forgot to ask if that was prediction or a early MC leak.

How is this posible?, nintendo really is in a shit position, being the leader with such a small support really shows that something really bad is going on within the industry.

* There aren't PS2 games to port from, even though most weren't getting a Wii port, anyways.
* PSP games aren't getting ported to it.
* Development cycles have progressed so that most everyone not doing handheld work is now firmly in the HD development world.

This means that all Wii gets are the exclusives, and we know how that goes. :lol

Actually the question is why are so many western games getting released in Japan in Q1?
It's just all those Aug-Nov games in the US finally getting a localized release in Japan.

This is the one I don't get. If I were publishing PSP games, you'd better believe that every single one would have a Wii counterpart - released the same exact day. Yes it adds a bit to the budget, but shouldn't enough so not to recoup the cost, and possibly hit upon that surprise 3rd party hit.

The only game I see selling decently on that list is RE not sure what Oyako de Asobo: Miffy no Omocha Bako is though... pretty thin list for the next three months the Wii has.

I agree with this. I think SE should port KH BBS to the Wii because it's likely to loose sales in the West because of PSP's poor SW performance...and the fact that most people in the West probably buy the games for the Disney factor which the Wii has and PSP really doesn't.

None of these Wii games will have huge sales or "legs" and will quickly drop out of the Top 30 best-selling list, while Tomodachi Collection, WiiFit Plus, and New Super Mario Bros. Wii stay on the sales list beyond the First Quarter of 2010.

I thought the big SE PSP games (Crisis Core/Dissidia) have sold well in the west?

Dissidia made the top ten for one month in NPD during a low sales month.

I don't remember if Crisis Core did.

then why are psp arent getting ported?, dummy question.

Its like the entire industry avoided the wii on purpose since the beggining. Obviosly nintendo has some responsibility and third parties to. I read these threads regularly so i know the common reasons. I only would like to know what really is going on backgrounds. There has to be a big reason of why third parties avoided the wii.

Could be moneyhats? Probably not, but you never know.

True, but not having a solid demographic base of what the game usually sells to just does more to hinder sales. FF fans are only a fraction of KH sales in the West. I'm not even expecting the game to beat 358/2 Days WW, Japan for sure though.

I think it would be stupid not to port it. I think Nintendo should do something to get more devs to port PSP games over too.

Crisis Core charted in March with 301k, then in April it was number 11 with under 141k.

BBS will be fine without a Wii Port.

Cheap and cheerful = Handhelds
All the bells and whistles = HD twins

The Wii doesn't serve much a purpose for developers IMO, aside from making a quick cash in from Nintendo imitations. So it's not avoidance, it's just a lack of interest.

Yeah the PSP can sell games on occasion, and KH always does well regardless of Platform. Its one IP that I think is platform agnostic in regards to sales.

My question is why haven't PSP developers taken on PSP-->Wii the same way HD developers do 360/PS3/PC. In the beginning of the Wii's lifespan they did because they had not developed for Wii and so they ported PSP and PS2, now they are not developing for Wii at all. I don't understand throwing away any extra revenue with a userbase as large as the Wii's is.

Almost as hurtfull as no more Bunkum NPD numbers.
What was "Bunkum NPD numbers"? Was it a guy who posted NPD numbers outside the Top 10 that NPD gives out publically?

Congratulation. Now remember, buy an Iphone with your first month salary, so you can keep on posting on GAF :D

Yea, it was nice. We got FULL (and i do mean everything) spreadsheets of every publisher and what they sold for the month. It was so easy to compare sales across platforms.

I don't know how much it cost to port games to the Wii but one thing I do know is that for Japan Wii is like the worst system with multi-releases. I'm amazed how it gets destroyed in every multi-release. It's ridicules.

How does that even happen? I mean it is the console leader in Japan but yet it does worse than 360 multi releases.

For games that are major factors in the Western markets though like Kingdom Hearts and MSG. I completely agree. Why the f aren't they on the Wii too.

Dissidia made the top ten for one month in NPD during a low sales month.

I don't remember if Crisis Core did.

Crisis Core shipped:

Japan: 840,000
North America: 770,000
Europe: 550,000

That's a pretty huge success. I'd argue it's probably up there with some of the best selling third party Wii games, especially once you get past games like Guitar Hero 3, Carnival Games, and Mario & Sonic At The Olympics.

I was looking for that, I knew I saw 770k shipped somewhere, but I didn't want to be wrong.

That is great, and I'd imagine BBS will do similarly well.

Thing is that while the PSP can sell FF games fine, can it sell KH well enough outside of Japan seeing as how the main fanbase for KH is Disney fans? It has the FF fans nailed but that's about it. That's why I think not porting to the Wii would be stupid since it'd sell really well, plus I doubt a port would cost much.

Well, I imagine the main issue there is that the Wii is significantly more powerful than the PSP, and might cause the game to look all janky on the system.

I mean, surely there must be *some* reason they're keeping it off there.

That or Sony is paying them.

Well, how will we know if the PSP has 'Disny Fans' if they don't put KH on there? Does the Wii have 'Disney Fans'? How do you measure 'Disney Fans'?

The game looks like KH1/KH2...it'd look fine on the Wii. Maybe they'll let the game sell its load on the PSP first then port it later, who knows.

Because the Disney games on the Wii have sold miles better than any of the ones on the PSP. Disney are putting Epic Mickey on the Wii for a reason.

Companies really are missing out not at least making Wii versions of their PSP stuff. Especially the big stuff like SE's. It really makes me wonder if even developers are 'fanboys' sometimes, wanting stuff to stay only on Sony or whoever. :/

You know there are heaps of people who are turned off handheld stuff that would lap up a console version.

Ah ok, it sounds really nice to get all those NPD numbers i must say! :) I dont think that i followed the NPD sales numbers that much before, so unfortunately i missed when he posted all those numbers.

Now why would we exclude specific games for Wii?

Because it makes your argument more viable?

That's all well and good, but you have to remember that this game has an ad-hoc multi-player mode, and SE is trying to capitalize on the success of MH, and to a lesser extent, Phantasy Star with this in Japan. Doing multi-player on the Wii would consist of throwing up servers and doing much more work than an ad-hoc multi-player mode. The MP is what SE is hoping will keep this game on the charts as it did for MH.

You've also got to understand that there is more to putting a game on the Wii than the bottom line of sales. If that were the case, every game would be made on the Wii and DS since they have the highest install bases. The reason this game is on the PSP is because of the aforementioned MP mode most likely, and because KH has been on like four platforms already (PS2, DS, GBA, Mobile, and now PSP), so they've decided to spread the love around for this game.

I was just indicating that while it would not be at the very top of the Wii third party list, there's still a fair chance it could be in the top ten with sales like that.

If my goal was to shit on the Wii, I would have ignored those titles all together, pretending they didn't exist.

I'm not sure why you're all defensive about me acknowledging surprisingly good sales for some Wii third party titles. o_O

Sigh, has GAF seriously gotten this petty and shallow they assume even a complement is an attack?

KH: 358/2 Days also has ad hoc multiplayer but it didn't have legs different from the norm in Japan. Besides, ad hoc matters only for Japan, not America where KH sells the most. That's why I think being on the PSP is great for Japan but not elsewhere and that's why I think a Wii port would be smart.

I really don't think anyone needs to worry about Kingdom Hearts. It'll sell well, even in NA. The PSP market is essentially dead in NA, but big hits can still make big sales. It's kind of like the latter day N64.

As to why it's not on Wii as well, mostly I think it comes down to SE traditionally not being a multiplatform developer. I mean, if the Wii was some kind of third party game-selling juggernaut, it would be hard to ignore, but it's not, so...

Huh? Overall the Wii has 43+ third party million sellers. It's a KH game too so it's not like it wouldn't sell good numbers on the Wii.

But...I think letting it sell on the PSP first would be smarter. Since a Wii port would kill a lot of sales in the West where the PSP isn't doing so hot...

Plus, since the IP owner is Disney, if they find that the Wii would be an attractive option for a port, I don't see why they couldn't do it.
