They probably deleted the 360 bar that they put next to the games on the chart because they figured they wouldn't need to use it ever again.

Yeah. That's what happened.
I think he's talking about Microsoft Game Studios undershipping Gears of War, rather than Konami undershipping Metal Gear Solid... which is true.

given that the ps3 had passed the 360's sales, i really thought we'd see another ps3 game in the top 30 before we'd see another 360 game.

congratulations to cliffy b. i never thought we'd see gears go over with the japanese audience. maybe we can stop those silly 'japan won't play gaijin game' rumours now?

hardware sales should be interesting, and ps2 software has still got plenty of life left in it yet.

Damn, look at .hack go...

Looks like the Nintendo pac-man will be a little more wide-mouthed this week. But just a little.

Where is F1 ?

Wonderdave said:
Didn't F1 for the PS3 launch in Japan this week? It seem to me that hw sales are a lot more closely linked to sw in Japan than in NA, so I would expect a bump in sales as FI fans pick up a PS3 for the game.
;D

MGS truly ****ed up undershipping.. shame

MGS can only ship a unit to retailer if said retailer purchases the unit. The retailers underestimated demand, but really, who can blame them.

Amazing sales for Gears of War if it actually put a small dent in the usually DS/Wii heavy Japanese charts. I'm assuming the camera perspective had much to do with its success. Dragon Quest Monster Joker seems to have lost it's legs but Zelda is still chugging along.

while i remember, i hope japan buys the crap out of excitetruck so we get a sequel :)

SELL EXCITETRUCK SELL
It's about damn time they finally came around. I know how much the Japanese like their big damn trucks.

F1 was out 28/12.

Here's another crazy one like PS3 not selling out and stuff - if I'd have said even ONE month ago that Gears would outsell Excitetruck in Japan in it's first week I'd have been shot for being insane.

I'm curious to see if Gears will hang around the top 30. If there really is excess demand/not enough shipped, it won't dance right out of the top 30 the way Blue Dragon did after its first week.

Gears should give a little bump to 360 hardware sales as well, probably to 12-15k.
