He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
That's a big difference for MH3 from sinobi's Famitsu number. I guess we'll find out who's over tracking or under tracking next week...

Did the 360 version not chart or did only the PS3 version come out there?

The 360 version should be just below the Top 30 for Media Create. It made the Top 30 in Famitsu.

Regardless of the exact amount, that's a huge debut. It should be the best selling 3rd party game for Wii very soon.

The big question will be how it's legs hold up, since that's been the biggest thing we've seen with the PSP games.

It most likely became the best selling 3rd party Wii game on Day 3

Capcom had to double the servers to satisfy online play, and MHG showed a few weeks of legs so MH3 should benefit similar if not longer since it is a brand new release and not a port.

I must admit that MH3 sales surprised me, I figured it would be #1 this week, but to sell over a half a million, Wow. I didn't think it would do this great in a non portable form.

Ouch at Puyo 7 almost being outsold by GoW2.
I want a HD Puyo so bad.

PSN/XBLA would be perfect for it. Having some old ones from the JPN PSN is nice, but HD would be awesome.

I like MC. They make my stubborn 400k forecast not quite as lolworthy as the nearly-600k numbers. I was still off by a hundred-odd thousand, but eh...

DQ is hanging in there. Nice.

So how is DQIX holding up to DQ VII now? Pretty sure it's ahead of VIII.

Also, MH3 did pretty well, but I'm interested to see what it will do next week, if it'll have decent legs or drop off sharply.

Lower than Famitsu for MH3, but I don't see much consequence. The game should enjoy a nice period of sales. There's also a mini-holiday period coming up this month in Japan, which should keep overall sales for all games higher in the coming weeks. I expect Friend Collection and MH3 to benefit a lot this month.

Those sales of MH are quite low compared to the famitsu numbers, I expected MC numbers would be tracked higher. That said, it doesn't matter at the grand scale of schemes, legs should matter more. Upcoming weeks will be interesting.

The Puyo Puyo number's actually pretty good.
It's one of the series's highest debuts.
They tend to have really long legs.

That Friend Collection thing must be a serious money-maker for Nintendo. It probably cost like 50$ to make and it's already past the 500.000 mark.

Is that a good number for MH3? How does it compare to other versions?

On that note, what kind of first week sell-through is desireable for a publisher?

Too high, and all stores are sold out instantly leading to lost sales (Sega learned this the hard way IIRC), too low, and stores start dumping the price to clear stock, which is bad for the store and publisher (but admittedly good for the consumer). So around what percentage is the "golden" point? Can we guess at that from the numbers we have?

Waaaaay ahead of the PS2 games, behind the two versions of MHP2. As expected.

But MH3's first week only includes 2 days worth of sales compared to MHP1 & 2's 1st week with 4 days being counted. So its likely that MH3 could be off to as high a start as MHP2 still!

We won't really know until the 3rd week. Next week will just be the culmination of a 1st real week of sales

I think the sell through depends from game to game, we are talking about 1m units in a shipment, I would think anything around the 60-80% range after 1 full week is perfectly fine.

Any comparison numbers for other notable Puyo releases?
For DS versions only...
Puyo Puyo Fever 1: No concrete data, but first-week total was around 20k
Puyo Puyo Fever 2: Didn't chart, but first-week total was around 36k
Puyo 15th Anniversary: Debuted at #16; two-week total was around 66k

Busaiku was right; Puyo 7 is doing pretty well. Although you have to consider the NDS version of Fever 1 released about ten months after it did on most other platforms.
