Yes, but no nudity, extreme violence or cursing. However there is a McDonalds Big Mac burger Beyblade in the game (I kid you not).

Why did 7th Dragon do so well? Because people thought it looked like EO x RPG?

Release timing helped, I think. That was the month DQ9 was supposed to come out before it got delayed again, so I think people were jonesing for an RPG and 7D was the beneficiary. Other advantages for it were looking like EO, being on DS, and getting pretty good reviews.

My copy of it arrived in the mail today from Play Asia. Just as fun as ever. :D
Heh, good to know.
I may as well import, I'll just wait for the Asian release details.... just in case...

Is there going to be an Asian release? It would've been announced alongside the Japanese version. And even if there is one in the near future, it won't have English, it's never happened before. :-(

Stranger things have happened, like Afrika/Hakuna Matata being re-released with English subtitles months after the original Asian release.

Hmm, though the fact that there isn't already an Asian copy out there does suggest there won't be one. Ah well.

I really don't think any of that was the real reason. Bebpo's guess is spot on here - it looked like EO and had similar lead staff members. The entire cute-SD character classes + Koshiro soundtrack + hidden 8-bit mode soundtrack + character creation dungeon crawling is pretty huge in RPG sub-genres in Japan. There's a huge otaku audience for it, and they eat it up.

In comparison you can see how World Destruction and Last Ranker perform less even though they have much more marketing, big name VAs and voiced cutscenes, and a much more "serious" art direction and and RPG format. It shows that while the core RPG audience is less likely to eat just any game up, RPGs catered to retrogaming nostalgia and taste have an edge when it comes to sales. EO3 still selling so well is more than enough proof of that.

So, one of the reasons I listed as why is also the reason you think. But simultaneously not the real reason. Alrighty.

Sometimes it's hard to read. You know how it is.

:lol at all the beyblade comments.

So the first week where Galaxy 2 dropped out of top 10... I'm almost holding on to my original claim that it (unfortunately) wont hit 1 million, and wont exceed Galaxy 1's sales.

But this is a weird generation, and for all we know it could get a boost during the holidays for some reason, or perhaps it'll find its legs where it is right now.

300k from 1 million...

Awww, and here I almost forgot about 7th Dragon and why I was desperately hoping for a western release. :I

I was a bit skeptic when I saw Famitsu Top10 without numbers but wow DQM did underperform. Its not DQ Swords but more like PS2 DQ Yangus (152k first week / 302k LTD).

Pawapuro 2010 did mighty fine, combined 172k is the best start since 2007 (PS2: 148k, Wii: 46k).

In the end it seems like Last Ranker could outsell Fate/Extra, humm we'll see.

Oh Bah hum-bug I just copied and pasted the form and didn't notice the PSP Pawapuro10 was listed first, need to double check things, also post my predictions in a timely manner.

Just so I can be of semi use to the thread here is some fun facts:

Top RPG sales this year(Home Consoles):
1-White Knight Chronicles: Awakening of Light and Darkness 210K~
2- FF13 190k~
3- PS3 EOE 180k~
4- PS3 SO4 150K~
5- PS3 Nier 130K~
6 - Xenoblade 120k~
7 - Ar-Tonelico3: 110k~
8- Atelier Totori: Alchemist of Arland 2 90k~
9 - Demons Soul 50k~

DQM becomes less shocking when you take into the fact that the entire life-time the arcade game was in operation it sold 500K cards you need to play. Take into account the fact that heavy users had multiple cards, compare recent wii games even such as FFCC and you can start to see how the appeal base was limited.

Sources are available if you really want them(retailer blogs):

- Pawapuro10 PS3 had supply issues and Konami's next shipment isn't till the weekend,
- Both fire emblem and Wii had party minor supply shortages, had higher then should be prices from wholesalers.

I'm surprised to see Fire Emblem doing so well. I really though the series was losing its already not stellar popularity.

I saw that it's at 92k now, that makes it the best-selling Gust-published game ever according to Famitsu data.

(Though Wikipedia claims "sales exceeding 130,000 copies in Japan" for Rorona, but without any reference :/)

Well, if you were to take the game's actual sales and multiply them by two, that would be correct.

I could see that being possible worldwide however.

Interesting - did we get first shipment figures for Wii Party?

EDIT:

Ah, I see the first week sales were 70% of the first shipment. In that case, this second week represents the final part of that shipment and suggests that Nintendo got a second shipment out already (although if the bit about supply and wholesale prices is correct, either not a large one or not well distributed yet).

We could be looking at a far smaller drop-off for week 3 - probably not over 100k, but perhaps just under?

Interesting. We'll see how frontloaded SMG 2 was (or not) compared to SMG. It sure fell by a good amount though. I wonder if NSMB Wii will rise again now :lol.

First one had the HUGE benefit of the holiday bump weeks into it's release. It's hard to compare sales directly.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
As I originally suspected, SMG2 is about to fall significantly behind the first- will probably be 90K or so behind in 2 weeks.

Well, if you were to take the game's actual sales and multiply them by two, that would be correct.
Not quite, but I agree that it's far off. The last "actual sales" number we got for Rorona was 78k in the Famitsu Top 100. Still, I do wonder where that 130k figure comes from. I found another mention of it, but this time it was claimed to be shipments, and still no reference I could verify. It could just be made up out of thin air of course.

I could see that being possible worldwide however.
It would need to sell 50k in US and PAL combined, that should certainly be possible.

It's going to definitely be hard to compare the two accurately until we get through the holiday season. I'll bet we see another advertising push at that point.

I saw that it's at 92k now, that makes it the best-selling Gust-published game ever according to Famitsu data.

Thanks. I should really have said "out of all their releases listed in garaph" instead of "ever". Where is that data from?

Odd people are still buying the Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver, lol. Black and White is literally just weeks away.

Already? I completely lost the sense of time.
