Famitsu sales from the other thread. Wii got a slight bump this week from people buying in anticipation for Monster Hunter 3 Tri. DS is still very high, will be interesting if it will plateau at a higher spot than before Dragon Quest. 360 is really taking a dive hardware wise. Seems to be from lack of compelling new releases. PS3 has completely stagnated.

Katamari sales are low... :(

Wow...has 360 ever been that low and do they have anything coming out soon to help boost that?

I'm pretty sure it was below 1000 at some point in its life. If not, it has definitely been lower than 2500 for the most part of a year. Overall it is still up almost 200% over last years YTD figures.

The PS3 is shooting straight for a new record low week sometime soon, let's hope FFXIII or the slim comes out soon.

WOW! Layton games are solid business. And a Layton animated movie is under work.
Add to the fact that Japan isn't even it's strongest region (Unsure whether US or EU is highest atm, but my bet would be on Europe) and Layton's selling power is even more impressive.

Katamari is out?

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuu-

SO tempted to import, it's (allegedly) coming out in the states this fall still right?

I could be since Layton is a long presence in UK all format chart. I did my part since I live in Italy. I'm quite courious about the animated film.

Anyone still think DQ9 will hit 5 million?

Did anyone ever think it was going to hit 5mil? It has always been considered a long shot for DQ9 to hit 5mil. I think most people are hoping for somewhere above 4mil.

Thanks for posting the OP. Just remember that you're obligated to update it with software #31-50 as well as hardware numbers.

One of these days, I'll automate my parser program to process posts perfectly.

I don't think anyone with any sense predicted that. Four million would kind of be pushing the limits of reasonable predictions, even before we had any data.

It should pass DQVIII rather easily, it miiiiight catch DQVII depending on how the next week or so pans out.

They definitely put a lot of stuff in this one to make you want to keep it, though. Used copies are still a rare sight, and for a jRPG three weeks into its life, that's really damn odd.

Wada said, "We expect Dragon Quest IX's shipments to reach more than five million, and expect it to bring life to the game market as a whole."

I agree with you. It will pass DQ8 in two or so weeks I suppose but I think 4 million is a bit too optimistic as far as it looks at the moment.

Sweet Lord, it will hit 5 million... that is crazy.

Remember, we're going into a holiday period in Japan. The beginning of August normally gives a nice boost in sales all around. That might help the legs of Dragon Quest a bit.

When the time comes when DQXI's not selling any copies at all in Japan each week, it'll have sold 5 million. With the numbers right now, I'm pretty sure it will.

Wouldn't Wada be talking wordwide when asked about expectations for any given title?

No, he was talking about Japan only.

The only game market that needs life is Japan.

4M is guaranteed at this point IMO. 5M is very doable if used sales get minimized enough.

Thinking about it, shouldn't DQ9 end up having the most used copies in the series if what Horii said about families buying multiple copies pans out? Or at least I think it will effect the legs of DQ9.

I think Wada is nuts. I'd like to be proven wrong, though.
I don't think a shipment of 5 million is too out of the question.
I believe the shipment for Dragon Quest VIII was 3.8-4 million, but it didn't reach that through the last tracked figures.

Ok scratch that, I was thinking of DQ5, and that failed to hang on for long either.

Yeah also used sales. All bets for 5M really depends on if the game can keep selling a cool 20-30k each week after the initial burst.

Edit: Oops I read your post wrong, anyway they're combating used sales with DLC and multiplayer.

It had a far lower second week than DQVII, but only a slightly lower third week. The 4th week should be a solid indicator if it will continue to trail VII and end short of 4 million, or if it will be back to tracking ahead with the likelihood of breaking that barrier.
