2 months until Pokemon Black / White.

Many thanks to enterbrain for (finally) seperating the sales of Pokemon Red / Green / Blue and Yellow and to Road for finding it.

Famitsu top 10: 12/07/10-18/07/10

01. [NDS] Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem - Hero of Light and Shadow (Nintendo) - WTF?
02. [WII] Dragon Quest: Monster Battle Road Victory (Square Enix)
03. [PS3] Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball 2010 (Konami)
04. [WII] Wii Party (Nintendo)
05. [PSP] Last Ranker (Capcom)
06. [PSP] Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball 2010 (Konami)
07. [NDS] Inazuma Eleven 3: World Challenge!! Spark / Bomber (Level 5)
08. [PS3] White Knight Chronicles: Awakening of Light and Darkness (SCE)
09. [PSP] Momotaro Railway Tag Match: Friendship - Cooperation - Winning Volume! (Hudson)
10. [NDS] Harvest Moon: Twin Villages (Marvelous Entertainment)

Over 200k for Fire Emblem? Maybe Nintendo must start announcing games earlier than 1 month before release.

DQ did big numbers but we have another Wii Party here.

Remake of the best selling Fire Emblem + it was announced less than 2 months ago = predictions are a mess again.

That's a really weird top10. Either there's a huge drop off for Wii Party and Inazuma 3, or Last Ranker is doing WAY better than expected. What's going on here? :lol

Man, that Top 10 right there is all kinds of weird. I never thought I'd see the day a Dragon Quest game released the same week in Japan as a Fire Emblem game would debut lower than the FE game.

Just noticed that sinobi has given numbers for the first 3 Fire Emblems we didn't have numbers. The list is now complete.

20/04/90 [NFC] Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light (Nintendo) - / 329.000
14/03/92 [NFC] Fire Emblem Gaiden (Nintendo) - / 325.000
21/01/94 [SFC] Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem (Nintendo) - / 776.000
14/05/96 [SFC] Fire Emblem: Holy War Story (Nintendo) - 228.578 / 429.763 (498.000 from sinobi)
28/08/99 [SFC] Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 (Nintendo) - 30.104 / 158.695
29/03/02 [GBA] Fire Emblem: The Sealed Sword (Nintendo) - 126.267 / 345.574

15/07/10 [NDS] Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem - Hero of Light and Shadow (Nintendo) - ? / ?

This Fire Emblem has a shot to become the third (or even second) best selling of the series.

According to Famitsu, Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem - Hero of Light and Shadow had around the same initial sales as 2008's Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon. So, everything should be below 140,000.

Shadow Dragon was actually released during the August holiday, so I'd say this new game had a relatively nicer start.

I personally didn't expect much out of the arcade DQ port, and Fire Emblem hasn't been a huge starter since the GBA days.

That said, I think the top slots will be relatively close to each other. Maybe even within 10% of each other.

I thought someone mentioned that Wii Party was showing legs. What happened there?

Positions don't mean everything, so we should wait for the actual numbers to hit. Wii Party will be around for awhile.

Well, here's what I'm looking at:

01. [NDS] Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem - Hero of Light and Shadow (Nintendo) <-- let's say 140k
02. [WII] Dragon Quest: Monster Battle Road Victory (Square Enix) <-- 110-130k
03. [PS3] Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball 2010 (Konami) <-- ~100k
04. [WII] Wii Party (Nintendo)
05. [PSP] Last Ranker (Capcom)
06. [PSP] Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball 2010 (Konami)
07. [NDS] Inazuma Eleven 3: World Challenge!! Spark / Bomber (Level 5)
08. [PS3] White Knight Chronicles: Awakening of Light and Darkness (SCE)
09. [PSP] Momotaro Railway Tag Match: Friendship - Cooperation - Winning Volume! (Hudson)
10. [NDS] Harvest Moon: Twin Villages (Marvelous Entertainment)

It's #4 and below which starts to get really puzzling. No matter how we look at it, Wii Party will have a 50% or higher drop. That's pretty high considering what it is.

Last Ranker at #5 would either mean that it performed much better than expected (over 70k) or Powerpro PSP and Inazuma 3 are bombing.

If Powerpro PSP is less than 50% of the PS3 version, that would be a huge decline in sales for the portable version of the series.

Inazuma 3 slipping below 50-60k would mean it's slowing down faster than Inazuma 2, which is odd given the timing and the increased initial interest in the release.

Yeah massive disappointment there.

I don't know. It's an arcade port, and you need to have a DSi and the DSiWare software to enjoy the game. Not to mention we've already gotten two DQ games this year.

I don't think that's true....

It's not a port, but a brand new home version of the arcade game concept. Just like DQS was not a port of the TV game thing. You also don't need a DSi and the DSiWare software to enjoy the game, because cards can be found in the game itself and collected like a normal game. The software is for you to scan in cards you happen to already have from playing the arcade game, to give arcade fans some sort of benefit for their support.

I could be wrong, and if you're clearer about it than I am, feel free to correct me, but that's my understanding.

5 with re-releases but maybe we pay too much attention to ''around the same initial sales''. FE can be at 140, 150 or 160k. DQ has kinda underperformed. The initial shipment was supposed to be around 300k.

You probably know more than I do. I've seen the arcade game in person before, but not being a DQ fan, it was hard to make the distinction. It's scary that I thought it was an arcade port because I'm pretty sure a lot of casuals do as well, hence they don't feel much need to buy the game.

Dragon Quest Swords came many years after Kenshin, and the Wiimote was still a new thing back in 2007, so I can see why that one sold well (in addition to being quite story-driven, from what I heard). It did eventually hit the bomba bins, for what it's worth.

Of all the DQ games available on the market, which ranges from inexpensive versions of DQIV, V and IX to the recent Joker 2 and DQVI remake, this Wii game looks the least compelling out of all to pick up. I'm pretty sure with this side project out of the way, people can get back to waiting for some DQX news.

In Japanese, Famitsu used the term "ほぼ変わらない" which translates to "nearly unchanged." The nuance suggests that the sales are very similar. Could be a small difference, though.

Looks like another huge drop for Inazuma Eleven 3... not looking good!

Disappointed in the sales of DQ. I thought they spent quite a lot of effort into "porting" this game over to the Wii. The expectations on the sales must have been high, just look at that ridiculously expensive controller! Doesn't bold well for further DQ spin-offs on the Wii.

Oh well, I will be help them out by buying
1
copy of the game :D

We don't know Famitsu Wii Party first week sales yet (we know if someone has bought Famitsu magazine).

So...

Wii Party (MC numbers) - 234892 first week, 113000 second week, a drop of 51.9%
That compares to (though not awesomely, being a different tracker and all)...

Wii Sports drop of 57.3%
Wii Play drop of 60.4%
Wii Fit drop of 39.7%
Wii Music drop of 57.4%
WSR drop of 56.3%
Wii Fit Plus drop of 56.0%

Did I math that out right? If so, it seems pretty par for the Nintendo longtailish course, so far.

According to Garaph (it looks like it's missing some data, though), the last game in the Nintendo [BLANK] Party series went from 282389 to 147084 (Famitsu), which is a slightly lesser drop of 47.9%.

I don't think milking the franchise is a problem for them at all. They are making tons of yen from IE3 even if they haven't sold out of their first shipment.

I think they just expected the game to sell really well riding the World Cup wave. Didn't work out as well as they expected.

Thats what happens when you release the successor to an rpg just 9 months after the last game - or maybe more people realized how bad the anime is, still good sales for Level 5.

I wonder how much their first Layton Game on 3DS will sell.
