You're right! #3.

Also Love PLus + is slipping. I can't imagine Konami is happy with 150k LTD, didn't that game had insane amount of production value?
It's being bundled with hardware (in three designs) too, so it's possible the game has sold a lot more.

Eh, assuming you take "base" DS sales as 30k a week and attribute any increase over that to Love Plus+ (even though Ghost Trick, Art Academy, Tokimeki Memorial, Inazuma Eleven 3, Taiko Drum Master 3, Digimon Story, and Harvest Moon launched within the last 3 weeks and clearly they account for some hardware bump), you'd only add around 70k to the total L++ sales.

I think Michan doesn't know that bundled sales are counted at software totals from Japanese trackers.

Well, yes, but even if they weren't it wouldn't exactly manifestly change the outcome :p

Also, your text graph in your last post isn't showing up for me. If I quote or edit the post, I see the data, but in Firefox 3.6 I just see a big empty quote/code block in the actual post. Really weird, never seen anything like this before.

So, what was WKC2's famitsu score this time and did it score better than WKC? I'm trying to see if the did anything for the title or not.

You don't see only this or you don't see code at all?

Well, Wii Party was given so little hype by Nintendo I think it was reasonable for people to think it would start out lower.
The commercials have been running non-stop here for the last few weeks. I mean, I guess they've done a poor job of hyping the Japanese release for American message board members, but I'm sure they're okay with that.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.

I guess I just meant that it didn't seem to get the same big unveil that Wii Sports/Wii Fit/Wii Music got in terms of getting a big E3 blowout, etc. I realize that isn't quite rational to equate E3 presence with Japanese marketing, but at least for me the nature of the announcement and unveiling made me think it wasn't as big a launch for Nintendo, hence my lower expectations.

We are talking about a title that was announced just 2 months ago. That's a very short time even for a Wii_ title.

What happened to HG/SS at Media Create? Out of top 30 when it is 7th at Famitsu.

I think you probably had to take its positioning at E3 more as Nintendo's emphasis for that particular event, rather than an indication of how important the title would be outside of their conference. Whereas in previous years, Wii Party would have had big billing, this year was clearly all about the 3DS and presenting the company as focusing on gamers' games.

I'm not too surprised we didn't hear much about its marketing in Japan from GAFers, though - it barely featured in Famitsu (unsurprisingly) and its not the kind of title most Japanese GAFers would be posting breathlessly about here, or linking to its ad campaigns.

Wii Party numbers isn't just a surprise to our predictions, YSO guys predictions all had it lower than its result, and we're talking about ~30 predictions there from japanese guys with most of them being between 90 and 150k.

Guess the TV push started late as usual with these of kinds and worked perfectly. We even saw 1st day sales being much more inline what everyone was thinking and then, boom 4x weekend multiplier out of nowhere.

ED: Also, watch it Famitsu have Wii Party at 100k less when we get their numbers for hilarity issues.

Its possible that I am just very busy this month or watching the wrong TV channels, but I live in Japan and I totally forgot it was out this week.

Amusingly, I just saw another ad on Nittele. It's the usual Arashi shite, but they've got all the members and the comfy couch is actually in a real room instead of a big white space!

John Harker

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
The World Ends With You caps 200k, considered poor.
Xenoblade crawls toward 150k, considers not bad.

Either way, we don't get a TWEWY sequel and the US don't get Xenoblade.
So really, we all lose :(

Eh, it's just an updated version of the original game. The hardcore fans will buy it, along with those who wanted to try the game out but never bought the original, but I think that a lot of people are satisfied enough with the original game.

I'm sure we'll see a proper sequel on the 3DS eventually, though.

I think Michan doesn't know that bundled sales are counted at software totals from Japanese trackers.
I knew software with peripherals counted, but assumed only hardware was given the count for console + software bundles. Sorry about that.

Because every PS3 (except for maybe 1,089 of them) sold since the Slim launched was a Slim.

While the point is well taken and that's an issue with the graph, IIRC Sony did not discount the original PS3s when transitioning to the Slim like they did in North America, so the ongoing original sales would likely be lower than comparable transitions in the past.

Speaking about Japanese trackers it's hard to believe how little information goes public every week comparing to what is given to subscribers. Of course we still get a huge ammount of data unlike everywhere else in the world.

Famitsu gives hardware + top 50 with sellthrough + new game releases + top 20/10/5 for every system (I guess it goes DS top 20, PSP top 10, Wii top 10, PS3 top 10, 360 top 5, PS2 top 5) with games in top 20/10/5 going also 3 weeks back in sales + extended market analysis. There is also a different report every Friday for first day sales.

I don't think we ever had a complete Media Create leak but judging by older leaks it is confirmed that it provides at least hardware + top 100 with sellthrough + new game releases. There is also a different report every Friday for first day sales.

Sure. I don't think the number of regular PS3s is a particularly significant portion of the PS3s sold since the Slim's launch. Just pointing out that he was assuming facts not reasonable to assume with his graph, which would be the point you took. :)

From 2ch:

Supposedly on Gemaga, Media-Create up to 06/27:

[NDS] New Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo) - 5.924.579
[NDS] Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Reverie (Square Enix) - 1.321.437
[NDS] Pokemon Ranger: Guardian Signs (Pokemon Co.) - 473.578
[NDS] Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies [Ultimate Hits] (Square Enix) - 147.321
[NDS] Etrian Odyssey III: The Drowned City (Atlus Co.) - 137.041

[WII] New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo) - 3.905.184
[WII] Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles (Capcom) - 141.215

I'm surprised DS price-cut bump is still keeping it on the same numbers:
53.523 -> 64.191 -> 56.271 -> 51.264

Given it was doing <30k, its a major improvement for, even being the first, a little pricedrop. I'd had expected some kind of spike, or even a bump that goes slowly down to its previous pace but right now it seems its riding a new wave.

Makes me wonder why isn't Sony shuffling PSP SKUs as usual, not price I mean but colors, bundles, limited editions...they are really doing nothing with it compared to previous years. Its kinda making 2010 PSP HW another 2009. I'm still thinking 2010 will not be like 2009 but like 2007-2008 with a PSP4000, MHP3rd and such, but now I'm not that sure it'll actually work.

Looking at some comments from Japanese retailers Wii Party is expected to show major legs. We should see it in top 10 for many weeks.

I'm certain Nintendo made Wii Party to troll every third party.

Xenoblade didn't make it on Comgnet this week. :(

I hope it didn't drop out of the MC Top 30 but it likely has at this point. Reaching Xenosaga 3 is looking like an unlikely stretch, never mind XS2. ~150k LTD is looking a lot more realistic.

Honestly, I still think renaming the game Xenoblade was a mistake. I think it was more the initial strong word of mouth that got it this far than the Xeno name it-self, but I guess we'll never find out though.

Why? Unless your argument is that the "Xeno-" name actually worked against it? Do you honestly think it would have done better than the 150k it will likely end up around if it had remained "Monado"?

Have you seen the sales trend of the Xeno games? It's a downward spiral. I think the first week sales would've been worse if people hadn't come out and say they think the game is good since going into release the reception for the game wasn't exactly on a high point either. As for the name Monado, I don't think it would have been the final name regardless of whether they used the Xeno prefix or not.

Yeah, I've seen the way the Xeno titles have gone. I just don't believe that the sales would have been any stronger with a different name - Monado or otherwise - and I think that using "Xeno" may have brought in people who otherwise wouldn't have looked at Random Wii RPG x.

As you say, though, it's not a situation where either of us will ever know for sure!
