Looking forward Ghost Trick, I hope it doesn't ends up like Hotel Dusk...

Guess I was right about Ghost Trick. Those are pretty underwhelming sales. Too bad as it is(seems like) a really cool game.

Glad Xeno broke 100k. I guess there was a new shipment? I wonder if it will survive the onslaught of next week's titles.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
What's Hakuoki: Junsouroku?

Hcoregamer00

The 'H' stands for hentai.

Wow, that Ghost Trick number is awful.
I wonder why it couldn't catch on at all.

Games like that sell based on the quality of the game.

I believe that Gyakuten Saiban also started off slow in Japan (and America)

Xenoblade? or Ghost Trick.

I doubt Xenoblade will have any significant legs, but who knows?
I meant Xenoblade.

I can see Ghost Trick chugging along like M&L, only in a much slower pace.

I believe its based on Hakuoki's anime....The anime is about a bunch of guys fighting to protect the king and a girl from "oni" (vampires/demons)

Holy Moly! Didn't know it was set to release so soon. To catch on the world cup fever I presume?
Didn't Inazuma 2 release not too long ago?

The cartoon just started here and it's pretty awesome. Love the character designs (except for goggle kid).

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
Ghost Trick and Trauma Team bomba. :(

Hopefully Last Ranker and Okamiden do better...

I'm glad Xenoblade made it over 100k this week though! It'd be nice if it doesn't go below 10k next week...

May I ask a question?

How do I decipher this?

I am having a hard time trying to figure out the purpose of this thread..I have an assumption but this is boggling my mind.

I would buy more games if western releases came with epic titles like Kochira Katsushikaku Kameari Kouenmae Hashutsujo: Machiteba Tengoku! Makereba Jigoku! Ryoutsuryuu Ikkakusenkin Daisakusen!

Has there been much buzz for Ghost Trick in Japan?

Well...

Long answer is we discuss sales to figure out trends in gaming throughout the world in order to see what the future holds for us gamers.

Short answer is bragging rights.

The Trauma Team number shouldn't surprise anyone, the series has never done well in Japan. Not even on DS.
In fact, it might have the highest debut yet (given the numbers from Dengeki from last week).

Ghost Trick is not a bomba yet. If the game is good, it will have legs, and sell over 100k eventually.

Last Ranker will do poorly imo, and Okamiden will do even worse.

Please let it come here! I'll buy a hundred copies of it and spread the word!
If you're already buying a hundred copies, would you mind getting one for me as well?

I wouldn't count on it. RPG legs die the second used copies start to hit shelves.

Anyone know what the initial shipment was like?

Media Create/Enterbrain is a company in Japan that tracks the weekly sales of video games, like box office numbers in the US. People interested tune in and examine the numbers and try to predict what will happen in the industry based on long-term sales (which games will get sequels and so forth)

So it goes: Weekly ranking, last week's ranking, system, title, publisher, sales this week, lifetime sales and percentage change from last week. You'll get used to it soon.

Initial shipment was like 75-80K.
So this would be at least the second shipment.

That's pretty good news.

Also, would someone mind explaining to me what Ghost Trick is? It's not that crazy Wii lightgun game, is it?
Seeing as it says DS in the original post I'd say not. I believe its a game made by the guy who made the Ace Attorney games and is a detective game.

How poorly is poorly?

I'm expecting about 60k opening week for Last Ranker myself. It has enough big names and Capcom is good at marketing.

I think it's gonna reach a similar sales range of games like Valkyria Chronicles 2. But you never know...

Level 5 must be praying that Japan goes through the group against Denmark. Not sure why it wasn't released earlier.

60k would be pretty bad. Niinou's last game with Sega was 7th Dragon, and it had a much lower budget and yet much more hype behind it in Japan. For some reason, Capcom seems to be dropping the ball on their smaller games in Japan lately in terms of push (Ghost Trick, Last Ranker, Okamiden). I really hope the game does well, because it looks great, but for the amount of effort put into it, with voices, full 3D environments, tons of designs, etc, a 60k opening would be awful unless it somehow has legs, which is like, very unlikely for a single player RPG.

So, Super Mario Galaxy 2 is in its third week now and tracking significantly ahead of SMG - 378k in week 3 - and pretty much level with SMG in week 7 - the beginning of SMG's Christmas bump. However, the 220k bump SMG got then is going to take it clearly ahead of SMG2, even if it keeps up the same sort of pace.

Fourth week, not third. ;)

Ah - that'll teach me not to post when I'm at work ;-) Still significantly ahead, but that should then be 415k, not 378k. Perhaps someone can calculate percentage drop-offs for both titles?
