Endo's goal was better.

So? A good goal doesn't equal a great performance, which Honda has had on all 3 matches. He is Japan's best player, and hope he goes to a bigger club next season.

They should have made the game based on the Harry Hamlin version. By the time this game came out, people have probably completely forgotten about the remake.

So predicting discussion, some interesting releases again, what do you think we should go with? Inazuma 3 is a lock, then there's Taiko 3, Digimon Story and Blazblue CS PS3/360.

Random sales bit of the day, it seems Gust shipped 90k of Atelier Totori and aims to reach 130k. Just for reference, such a first shipment would be as big as the biggest Gust game LTD since 2001 (Atelier Lilie PS2 - 90,203).

I'm most likely not the only one annoyed we don't have Famitsu Top1000 yet...so what's the chance someone buys the enterbrain book that has the top from amazon (Famitsu Game Hakusho 2010)? Its only 24,000Y used!

Seems like my guess not so out there now.

Sinobi brought up an interesting point on his twitter, wondering what people think:

1. (Note: this is directed to game store owners) Getting all fuzzy about difference in sales data between trackers in the end is kinda pointless and has no meaning, buy based on what your store sales feel like.

2. He's stated several times in the past that he thinks software like Ghost Trick(Which capcom has an rather good value special edition of sold only through their website) Is heavily underrepresented in first week sales data due to the tendency for manics to buy the special edition.

Random Sales related news:

No More Heroes sold 4,7k at Hachima stores? This must be more than 10% of total sales of the game in Japan.

(Unless you meant 24k/27k - 15k/20k)

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
So... Is there a chance that MH:F will beat the highest selling 360 game in Japan, which is Star Ocean 4? :p

Huh. That speaks decently of PSN sales, i guess. With a title like that, it's probably also an indicator that products taht people might be embarrassed to buy at retail would probably see better results through more discreet channels. :lol

Woopsie. 47K(whee for forgetting what the number K refers to! (I fail completely at sales-age threads)) is for the entire country. The hachima I'm referring to is one of the more popular JP gaming blogs, which was relying the marvleous stock holders conference.

Battle Vixins number was also incorrect, sorry.

Interesting.

But it would be a lot more interesting to know how many copies are big games like Phantasy Star Portable 2 or Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker selling digitally.

I hope Konami reports this on their next fiscal report.

Ok, so I've never quite understood the Japanese charts, but I'm very interested in Xenoblade's success, so I guess I'll ask now. How do the JPN charts compare to NPD? Generally titles need to break 500,000-1 million to be considered a success over here, but I don't know what the Japanese equivalent is. What's considered good/mediocre/bad for games that don't have DQ/FF levels of selling power?

Not really - that's an injoke.

In reality, it depends on the title.

Whoa, No idea they tracked these.

I'll help on get rolling on percentage of used sales vs new!

I dunno if a % will be accurate here though. From my understanding, this tracks each time a used copy of the game is sold, but that does not rule out a store buying a used copy of the game, selling it, and eventually buying that same copy back, and selling it again, etc. There is no way to tell how many of these used game sales are from unique copies.

Yeah, obviously not accurate, but it gives you an interesting look into potentially what percentage of new sales were lost to used(and also which games are more affected percentage wise by used sales), as I doubt the same person is buying multiple used copies.

(obviously you have the whole people only buy the game new/used, because they know they can sell it back(I'm one of them, my local store has insane deals where if i use the proper coupons to buy a game, play it for a week and then use coupons to sell it back, In the end I've rented a game for a week for what amounts to 200 yen - 500 yen)

So i can be of use here also:
Through Hachima again:
http://www.famitsu.com/game/news/1236964_1124.html: Monster Hunter F X-box 360 set a record of 34197 Players online at once,

Compare this to the record of 21595 players at one time max during the beta; a total of(51455 players throughout the entire beta. you get a 1.6X ratio, doing fuzzy statistics that isn't at all valid and applying this to the retail version you around 82,000 Copies of MHF sold.

You are getting your numbers a little muddled.

Open beta players online at 27 Jun 10am: 34197
Closed beta players online at 13 May 11pm: 21595
Total number of players who played in closed beta: 51455

I'm not sure this matters, though, if one is interested in used sales to be able to determine how many "new sales didn't happen because of used copies". Like, if I buy DQ9 used, play it, trade it in, and you wander in off the street looking for DQ9 and choose a used copy over a new copy, it doesn't really matter if you choose my used copy, a used copy that's been through 10 trade cycles, or a used copy that was just traded for the first time ever; the net impact is the same.

A copy that's already being sold for the tenth time probably is too cheap to use it as an indication for the loss of new copies being sold. When someone buys a game for half of the original price or even less, you can impossibly know whether or not the person would also have bought the game at full-price.

Games don't go down in price each time they're traded. Every used / good condition copy of DQ9 costs the same. The question is how fast the churn occurs, but that applies equally to first-traded copies of 5 year old games as it does to tenth-traded copies of 5 week old games/

When someone buys a game for half of the original price or even less, you can impossibly know whether or not the person would also have bought the game at full-price.

You're not comparing used to original price, you're comparing used to current new price, and Japanese retailers frequently make deep cuts on new game pricing. I think it's fair to say that everyone who buys an in-print game in used has the option to pay a little more to get that same game new, but chooses not to in order to save money.

Correct (if you mean on the tenth used sell a significant period of time has passed to where any used copy of the game would be extremely cheap). This data does give us an impression of what type of games are being sold used in high quantities though. Using reports of price drops or a price holding steady for the new copies and comparing it with that title's used sales would also be interesting.
