Woah, that's pretty impressive for the Hatsune Miku game.
Is it really? This is probably the similar crowd that bought IM@S SP to 121K opening week too.

WiiSports Resort 1million+ by the end of July easily.

Is it suffering from a shortage right now, or are you being sarcastic? I don't see how it obtains 1000K at its current rate in the next few weeks. unless it is just out of stock at the moment... which it very well could be, considering it comes with a piece of hardware.

If it stays are the current pace is has, it'll be damn close to 1 million by the end of the month. It's one of those titles that stays around forever. WiiSports was around forever and it had massive sales. No reason this one won't.

Yes but you werent talking about it saying around forever. He's questioning its ability to get to 1 mil by month's end.

I doubt it'll see 150K+ sales for 2-3 more weeks. It'll definitely hit 1 million, probably by the end of August or so, but by the end of July is pushing it in my opinion.

I don't really get what you're saying. Infinite Space is the first PG game released in Japan. I wonder what expectations Sega has for it though, the initial shipment was kinda low...

Victory lap. Saying "Hi." Blowing raspberries at you. Benchpressing a semi. You know, all the other things normal games either can't do or can't get away with because they're inferior.

go go Sega! I'm pleasantly surprised Infinite Space climbed back into the top 10. A new shipment clearly went out.

Not really sure why some people are surprised with Infinite Space doing 10k this week. It was kind of obvious Sega undershiped the game or under-anticipated it's sales when it sold out first week, and then only went onto sell around 2k the next. It's been climbing since.

It's surprising because Enterbrain tracked it at 6,500 sold for the same period. :p

Both of these posts made me chuckle. One is filled with nostalgia, and the other is inventive.

I give the gold to OnPoint for originality, but believe me viewers it was a close game. While OnPoints joke gets the gold he needs to work on delivery and pacing.

HK's has all the makings of a great one, which is why it is a great one. But that could just be the manchild raised on Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain speaking.

It sold ~97% of its original shipment and we are not sure what the restock # has been. Could very well be getting 100k a week restock and selling out.

I do not think we will have a good gauge till next week to see it remains around the 100k mark or if it drops.

Dang, I thought Burei Brooo would hold on for another week in the top ten. Japan just doesn't like 2D fighting games on console this gen.

Cool, what's the penetration rate for motionplus ATM? Isn't it at about 20 odd % now going off raw sales numbers?

If you're asking about the % of Wii owners who now have Motion+ in Japan, it's probably best to go with the Wii Sports Resort total / Wii LTD, since the standalone Motion+ sales were probably ~100% to Wii Sports Resort owners. In that case, the penetration % is 6.3%. Probably ~ 5 out of 6 of those have multiple Motion+ devices, too.

Wouldn't it make more sense to compare the M+ sales to the sales of the Wiimote standalone, minus obviously those coming from the original purchase of the Wii (for the Wiimote) and those garnered by purchasing a game bundled with it (for M+)?

...

Did that make any sense?

I think you're saying how many Wiimotes in Japan now have Motion+ attached to them. In that case, we don't know how many Wiimotes have been sold in Japan, so we can't know the exact %. However, I think jvm did a Gamasutra article that came up with ~2.2 Wiimotes (including the one that came with the Wii and Wii Play) per Wii in the U.S. If we assume a similar ratio in Japan, that would mean ~18 million Wiimotes in Japan, which would make the Motion+ attach rate to those Wiimotes around 5-6%.

Is that more along the lines of what you were looking for?

Pretty much. I was trying to get a clear picture as to M+'s full penetration of the userbase. From my point of view, that's indicated more by the number of Wiimote's with M+ attached than by the number of WSR to Wii's. In some sense anyway.

For a single-player game that uses Motion+ (e.g. Red Steel 2, Zelda Next), it doesn't make a difference whether a household has 1 Motion+ for their 3 Wiimotes or 3 Motion+ for their 3 Wiimotes. In that case, the sell-through of Wii Sports Resort (at least, right now) compared to the Wii can still be useful. I do like the idea of knowing how many Wiimotes have a Motion+ device attached to them, though. It's been discussed before how Nintendo could, in the future, make the standard Wiimote have Motion+ built-in, and if that Motion+ % compared to the # of Wiimotes goes up enough, it could help make that idea become a reality. :)

That's my thing, trying to judge at what point (if ever) the M+ equipped remote becomes the standard. I'd be interested in a method for determining that somehow.

Big games get released on Saturday (see Pokemon and Dragon Quest). Probably more to do with it being in a hardware bundle, though. New hardware is usually released on the weekend.
