Good thing Wii Sports Resort and DQIX are about to hit, and not a moment too soon.

Wouldn't want Japan's first million seller of 2009 to be a lower priced re-release of a 2008 title that was an expansion of a 2007 title that was derived from a 2006 title on the PS2.

I'm surprised ARF stayed in the top ten. It's still a big drop, but it's hanging in there. Too bad overall, the numbers aren't good enough to cause retailers to do reorders :\

It either got a second shipment, or it is basically 100% sold out in Japan. I'm betting on a second shipment.

JoshuaJSlone and anyone else who uses my translations,
I incorrectly translated a PSP game from the week of April 6-12 as this game. It was #26 in Famitsu and #27 in Media-Create that week. The appropriate translation of that game is "Shinseiki Evangelion: Koutetsu no Girlfriend Special Edition Portable (Iron Girlfriend)." Just FYI. :)

Seems very low. Lull before the storm?

Hrm, I wonder if Infinite Space is any good? Hope to see it get released outside of JP.

Sinobi commented that Infinite Space was another undershipped mistake for Sega. Apparently the shipments of the game sold through about 90% in the first day, and most stores didn't have copies left to sell by the weekend. It remains to be seen if there's word of mouth which could give the game continued legs to keep selling after restocks.

Has any game ever recovered from stock problems? Children of Mana?

Glad to see Kenji holding out in there. KH as well but not as surprised to see it there.

Look like its ARF's final week. :(

Why's that a bad thing? A second shipment could sell a lot. This way, we know it's not due to lower interest if it's only the 1st shipment.
If each store only got one or two copies, it could mean they won't bother reordering. One or two copies will hardly register at all.

EDIT: Also, if reorders didn't happen after a week, it means they're less likely to happen at all.

Lots? We're not talking about like huge new titles here, but new IPs from lesser known developers. EO1 suffered from serious stock problems at first, and 7th Dragon was undershipped by Sega too. Both recovered pretty well to go on to break over 100k. For these niche hardcore games, word of mouth is really important.

I only went to 2 games store and one department store this week, but Infinate line was sold out at the 2 game stores (the department store had at least 1 copy left, possibly more)

ARF Was sold out at the small game store, the big game store (wanpaku) still had 2 copies (or got 2 new copies? not sure). The department store never got copies to begin with (they never carried Fragile or other Wii bombs either).

I wonder if it did get a second shipment or if MC just overestimated the numbers. Either way it dosen't matter much. I saw my first used copy yesterday. More will follow.

Still happy about it staying in the top 10. Even if that's only 8000 copies. (lowered expectations)

RPGs don't have legs (unless they have Mario in them). But word of mouth in my town is very good on this game. I bet some people will pick it up (used of course) when they buy Wii systems for MH3.

Refresh my memory; what is the number one 3rd party title across all platforms in Japan? Is it MGS4?
Generally in this order:

1.) Dragon Quest
2.) Final Fantasy
3.) Monster Hunter

However, since Final Fantasy mainline titles are on the PS3 there, Monster Hunter might end up overtaking it this generation as a franchise.

I don't mean in general; I want to know what the current number one 3rd party title is and how much its sold.

get some go again
is this a slow time for japanese sales usually? or are they finally starting to feel the recession?

Perhaps I should have been more specific; for consoles only.

Yeah, that'll be MGS4, at a rather unimpressive 600-700k. That's how sad the console generation is this time round, and why developers are less and less interested in working on console games unless they can "westernize" them. The DS and PSP both have third party titles doing well over that, and the development costs are most definitely lower, so.... lol consoles.

Yeah. I'm essentially trying to quantify the abysmal sales all around and it seems like this is the best barometer so far. Also, I must say that I find it funny that some 3rd party devs solution to waning Japanese sales is to just say "fuck it" and focus on America.

Well I bought a copy, thanks to cvxfreak. Photos of my now complete Japanese Metroid collection coming soon!

EDIT: I suppose that also means it will be quite rare, glad I got it at release then.

Ah, I see where you're coming from. Then yes, there are many. I just hope people don't get the wrong idea about what this means. :D

And getting the restocks in before used copies hit.

NOW I know what happened to those 8000 copies of Arc Rise Fantasia! :lol

"GK otsu!"

Seriously, what the fuck?

Just got back from Akihabara... Arc Rise was available everywhere and many stores still have the original preorder-bonus CD, so I don't think that's a restock.

Infinite Space is nearly impossible to find. All the point-of-purchase displays that were there two days ago have been disassembled and removed. I guess no one's expecting a second batch soon.

EDIT: I did find a copy of Infinite Space three days ago (after checking seven stores). I'm only about three hours into it, but so far it's really good.

I would hope those were actually paid for. So it's his/her own problem.

Edit: Now I know why no one ever links to 2ch. :lol
