Really nice opening numbers for Etrian Odyssey. Here's hoping it doesn't disappear off the face of the earth like Strange Journey.

Also, I weep at 32k for Dead or Alive. Shame on you, Japan.

This baffles me. Everyone seems to have loved it when it was on the Xbox. It gets ported to the PSP, now it's the most vile thing ever...

Unless you mean it not selling as well as past entries in the series...

No one loved the 360 version.

Oh no, I thought it was pretty vile on Xbox as well. I don't even necessarily mean from the creepy voyeur angle either, it's just pretty much shit on a disc.

This is a game where you stare at girls in bikinis as they engage in light entertainment, rather than a real Dead or Alive fighting title.

I believe the Xbox one had volleyball in it. The 360 and PSP one are universally panned as being creepy and terrible.

I can't believe Mario Kart DS and New Super Mario Bros. are still in the top 20. How old are those games now?

What the heck. You told me you bought the psp version!. I'll have to sue you for lying to me!

Anyway, it looks like doa: paradise also has beach volleyball. http://www.gamespot.com/psp/action/deadoraliveparadise/images/0/38/

Ahh, you were being serious. Anyway, I rechecked what you said and it looks like you only downloaded the demo. I was mistaken. My apologies for smearing ducky's pristine reputation.

I actually own DoA XBV on the original Xbox. I don't regret buying it, and I think for what it is, it's a pretty good game. There was a good range of swim wear to dress up the character in, and the idea of a relaxing resort game with volleyball, gambling, dress up, etc, is pretty appealing to me. The game looked great and ran at 60fps too.

Then they made DoA XBV2 on the 360. It couldn't even run at 60fps, it looked like a minor upgrade over the original with more crappy modes which I wasn't interested in. They added more fanservice which got MORE AND MORE sexual in nature and it was kinda a turn off because it was slipping off the range of good taste for me.

I downloaded the DoA Paradise demo for the PSP, and wanted to see how they converted some of the controls onto portable form, and I wanted to see if the game ran well. To my horror, the "demo" wasn't even of volleyball, or anything. It was just a collection of three fanservice scenes with a single character, and you took "photos" of her while she was stretching and humping shit.

Totally, fucking, disgusted. :lol

Yeah DOAX was best on XBOX. The 360 version wasn't too much of an upgrade, and I don't know why it's on PSP.....now if they made it MH with bikini's they would of sold more :lol

Good to see Spirit Tracks hanging on, at least.

Hope it hangs in there like the other ever-green DS titles.

I've heard stories of widespread discounting but has the game been advertised well in Japan?

DOAX on PSP is actually pretty fun. I'm enjoying it. Gift giving is simpler, pool hopping is pretty cool and the volleyball translates. I wish the jet sky game made it over, but still fun. It doesn't really show anything to warrant the M rating.

Looks like Koei has a hit on their hands with Fists of the Sluggish Star...

Don't fry me guys, I like the manga. :D

Finally got some time to do some comparisons I had pending...

Hakuouki or Idea Factory-brand savior
Its one of those ADV full of omg-those-guys-are-all-so-pretty (also known as female oriented) so I doubt there's much interest here in the actual games...but it has become Idea Factory flagship franchise. It started in 2008, first week and LTDs by Famitsu:
2008 PS2 Hakuouki: Shinsengumi Kitan - 13,277 (LTD 21,824)
With that, it was enough to be Idea Factory best selling title in 2007 & 2008. So they prepared for 2009 two entries launching at the same time on PS2 and PSP:
2009 PS2 Hakuouki: Zuisouroku - 19,386
2009 PSP Hakuouki Portable - 16,764
Just first week data, Idea Factory managed to debut both on the Top10. We still don't know 2nd week or LTD sales but chances are they outdid the 2008 title.
So we're in 2010 and the Hakuouki milking is in full force. We just saw the first DS entry:
09./00. [NDS] Hakuouki DS (Idea Factory) - 14,921 / NEW
Another good top10 debut. But May 13th will see PSP Hakuouki: Yuugi Roku release. And the anime has just started airing. And a PS3 Hakuouki is set for a June release.

Hokuto Musou or 418k wat
Yeah, didn't see this coming. Every pre-order numbers or predictions ones were pointing to a slightly bigger debut than the latest entries (Shin Sangoku 5, Gundam 1&2, Sengoku 3, Orochi 2, Multi Raid 1...) but 418k combined or PS3-only 385k just blown them off.
Chronological main Musou releases (first week Famitsu data):
2010 PS3/360 Hokuto Musou - 418,000 (PS3: 385k)
2009 WII Sengoku Musou 3 - 126,646
2009 PSP Shin Sangoku Musou Multi Raid - 227,309
2008 PS3/PS2/360 Gundam Musou 2 - 280,325 (PS3: 161,623)
2008 PS2 Musou Orochi 2 - 220,440
2007 PS3/360 Shin Sangoku Musou 5 - 202,885 (PS3: 176,180)
2007 PS2 Musou Orochi 1 - 377,507
2007 PS3 Gundam Musou - 171,032
2006 PS2 Sengoku Musou 2 - 301,044
You have to go back to...
24th February 2005 - PS2 Shin Sangoku Musou 4 - 560,733
...to find a bigger Musou release.

I was going to do a Pro Baseball Spirits 2010 comparison with previous year entries but Famitsu leaked numbers difference with MC actual numbers is way too big so I prefer to wait until official Famitsu numbers are out. 78k vs 57k, 66k vs 51k, 23k vs 21k. If they are confirmed though, Famitsu-wise, it would easily be the best start for the series.

True. What is amazing to me in this case is it was only literally in the past week that Galaxy was actually unveiled in Japan via Famitsu and the web site. Nintendo is treating it like Wario Land Shake.

Yep. And it will probably sell somewhat like it, too (maybe not as bad:lol :lol )

:/ I'm fully expecting Mario Galaxy 2 to underperform in Japan, which is a shame cause it's freaking Mario Galaxy.

Save the hyperbole for when the game has been released without any advertising.

Oh you know what I'm saying- it is baffling to me that a title like Galaxy 2 is only getting any sort of media treatment 2 months before its release. NoA is doing a bang up job in comparison :lol
