Please tell me this is good?

Second-best start of the series behind Ace Attorney 4 (250K 1st week in MC), and that ended up at 499K in MC. I think Famitsu reported even higher sales for it this week.

Is Pikmin 2 in the bargain bin now or something? It jumped from 46 last week to 19 this week. O_O

Impressive KH: DS and respectable GS numbers

I see MH: G is still hanging on, albeit low on charts. Capcom timed its release pretty well. By the time MH3 rolls around G will have run its course and gotten people used to the online system and such.

Looking forward to next week. I hope imageepoch and MMV are able to do well with Arc Rise. If not, there's always the DS to fall back on.

Monster Hunter G seems to bode very well for MH3.

Not even the new episode helped to resurrect Haruhi's popularity yet.

Can't wait to see a K-On game, with some Mio service. That would actually sell to the current K-On otakus.

fact that Last Guy charted shows how small DD market is in Japan.

It is freaking awesome game and I will buy expansion of course, but it is silly.

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
Nice numbers for KH and GK, I hate when MC and Famitsu are so different though (GK did better according to sinobi/Famitsu). Anyway, I hope Arc Rise Fantasia can do at least 40k this week, though with the way niche Wii titles have been doing it might be lucky to do half that... I wonder if there's any buzz for it.

I think it could possibly do 40K. I actually saw a pretty decent retailer presence for it when I was looking, and it got decent reviews in Famitsu.

cvxfreak mentioned earlier that Metroid Prime Wii and Donkey Kong Jungle Beat Wii (i guess that both of these games are Gamecube ports with added Wii control scheme?) were at sale for ¥1980 at his usual gaming shop Bic. Maybe this applies to Pikmin 2 at some stores as well? But i dont know :\

What's that level-5 game all about?

Also pretty good KH and Gyakuten Kenji sales.

Similar to Layton being based on Akira Tago's puzzles, this game is based on Paul Sloane and Des MacHale's lateral thinking puzzles. From my experience, a puzzle is told and the solvers have to ask questions that must be answered with a binary yes or no. They typically use preconceived notions against the player by making the wording of the puzzle very ambiguous or tricky.

weren't the marvelous exceptions for the game to be only around like 35k anyway?

Why are these threads so dead lately?

In completely non-related news, it looks like Wii will overtake PS3 YTD next week

These threads are so dead because the PS3 is no longer in the lead on a weekly basis.

The horde ignores bad news! FOR THE HORDE.

Cause Japan has become boring. Need something to spice it up. DQIX and then Monster Hunter 3 should do it.

I thought Kizuna's blockbuster start was pretty exciting myself.

No more rape games in japan...my interest is dulled!

Curious to see KH only sell 300,000. Is the series bigger in NA/EU?

It's because of the irregularity of the time when the thread is posted. I normally look for it Wednesday night (EST) or Thursday morning, if its not there, I sort of forget about the thread. Also the market is on a downward trend, and no one likes commenting every week "Oh wow, sales look terrible all around" there's no fun in that. I'm guessing we'll get a few more interesting threads around the time Dragon Quest IX and Wii Sports Resort come out.

Edit: Corran, Kingdom Hearts is a bigger franchise in the west than the east, but it's still considered a big franchise in the east. Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories for the GBA did no where near as well as this has done so far, so this one is considered a big success. The series seems to do better on consoles in general.

how well did KH DS do compare to other KH titles? :O

Worse, I'm pretty sure.

And yeah the series is much bigger outside of Japan. I think the first one didn't even break a million in Japan, but sold like 2.5 million in the states.

Nice to see good numbers for some traditional games. Great KH sales, and very nice numbers for Miles. Good for Empires I think, I guess a bit lower than other empires, right?

Home consoles are still dead. Really curious to see how MH3 does, Nintendo looks pretty active in order to give it momentum, that never hurts.

How soon for ArcRise Fantasia's first day sales numbers? I'm hoping it doesn't totally bomb.

Should see the first day sales sometime tomorrow morning. I'm expecting somewhere from 15k-25k. If it's below that... I'm going to be pretty disappointed, and if it's above that, I'm going to be wholly surprised.

Considering that these threads usually attract a number of people who either live in Japan or are well versed in the Japanese side of gaming I'll ask this question that's been on my mind today here:

What's that phrase for a completely terrible game that is kinda bought specifically because it's terrible? There's a specific phrase for this "genre" and sometimes small Japanese stores would label a game as such. I totally forget the phrase, but I think I recall sometimes Cho Aniki has fallen into this area for example.

Mainly the fact that even the most deluded of fanboys know that there is no longer any way the Wii could ever be toppled from its position at this point. Without the back and forth excitement of system wars, people just stopped caring.

Plus low sales across the board aren't terribly exciting. We've just gone through a pretty long stretch where big releases were few and far between. Don't worry though. It'll pick up in the second half of the year (WSR, Punch Out!, NSMBW, DQIX, MH3, Pokemon HGSS, FFXIII) etc.

FFXIII is due for release in '09, isn't it? I don't keep track anymore.

EDIT: Also, what's Arc Rise Fantasia? Is it that game with the pastel filter?

Indeed, and probably also because that the Wii hardware has been selling relatively low for several of weeks now, and the same with the Xbox 360 hardware sales. Not too much new things happening with the japanese sales, so not too much to comment on and/or discuss (that havnt already been said before) :\

EDIT: New games are still comming out now and then though, so there are some new things to discuss :) But regarding hardware sales, the PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 sales have all been relatively low for several of weeks, and the PSP and the DS hardware sales have been relatively steady for several of weeks.

Probably, but doesnt that goes for every horde though, not just the PS3 horde (if that is what you ment)? :)

As of now, yes. I was doubtful, but the fact that they somewhat committed to a Spring 2010 U.S date makes me think it might happen.

I think you could mean Kusoge (クソゲー). (I know because of GAF)

Not sure what to say really, other than the things that have been said. It's rather pointless to keep saying "wtf with japan console sales" in the thread every week.

Actually, these threads have been dead since PS3 started selling more than Wii.

I noticed a spike in interest when that happened, actually, as it was driven by a few key releases coming out back-to-back. It dropped off back to nothingness again after some weeks though. I think there was a while there where I didn't even post in the MC thread.

Same thing happened when the PSP was outselling the DS for a while. Lots of interest when it first happens, then it gets old after a few weeks.

Yup. Kusoge. But the genre is not as popular as it once was. Probably because games cost more to make now and its pretty risky to intentionally release a shitty game.
