Media Create Sales: Nov 9-15, 2009

So the PSP is doing pretty good since the pricedrop, and I guess having the Go besides it makes it look better.
Meanwhile the DSi has traded places with it, I guess the DQ+Todomachi+Pokemon effect had dilluted. I don't view the DSiLL as a big seller, so I don't think that's the reason it has fallen so much, but it could account for some.

NSMBW should have been released this week.

I want to post return of the king and rise of jesus etc, but since Dragona asked if I wanted a ban... I'm not sure right now.

my intention was not to make a flame.

but this week shows how things are little changed since new PS3 release.
i don't think DBZ moved so much hardware, but even in a calm week, PS3 sold about 10k more than Wii.
but now PS3 line-up has not big releases until FF13, while Wii has some good IP's coming.
it will be interesting to see how much Taiko 2 will sell on first week, can't wait for tomorrow...

And taking all the JRPG...

Not anymore! The most recent RPG offerings (Vesperia, So4) have been ported to PS3 and I doubt developers will push their luck with any new 360 material anymore regardless of the moneyhats.

edit: What the hell has Mistwalker been up to, anyway? They were hailing themselves as the greatest thing to grace the 360.

You know what sucks? The PSPgo is an awesome little piece of hardware, it's just overpriced. The GB Micro was fucking retarded from the start; let's try to play stuff on an itty bitty screen for no goddamn reason. The go at least is a DD platform, and I think it feels better, ergonomically, than the normal PSP. It also feels solid.

I say all those things without actually owning one because the price is fucking retarded. And it's retail. Retail killed the idea from the start. And yet they tried. I give 'em props for being that stupid, but they were still that stupid.

12. [PSP] Persona 3 Portable (Atlus) - 12,000 / 164,000
According to Garaph, it looks like Persona 3 Portable is going to cement itself as Atlus' fourth best selling title in Japan ever sans PS1 games. If it can hold out a few more weeks in the 5000-6000 range it might even start pushing at Persona 3, though I'm not sure how likely that is.

Code:
1 PS2 Persona 4 294,214
2 PS2 Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne 245,520
3 PS2 Persona 3 210,319
4 PS2 Persona 3 Fes 165,471
[B]5 PSP Persona 3 Portable 164,000[/B]
6 PS2 Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner 153,421
7 DS Etrian Odyssey 2: The Royal Grail 145,421
8 PSP Persona 128,709
9 PS2 Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon 124,725
10 DS Etrian Odyssey 122,461

No, garaph misses Atlus PS1 releases.

The machine itself is a thing of beauty, Sony on the other hand hasn't done much for it.
Its more of Sony trying to test the DD only market, to determine whether they should do it for PS4 and PSP2. If they invested tons of money going DD only and failed next gen, then that would have been quite costly. They said over and over again that the PSP Go was targeted to be a premium device (somewhat like the PSX and how PS3 was originally positioned) and they'll continue making a PSP-3000 (and PSP-4000 is rumored next year). The two will co-exist together.

I honestly didn't expect the Go to do very well in Japan since DD just hasn't had very much success (such as PSN and XBLA downloads). Physical media is just more important in Japan it seems, which is partially why many PSN only games in NA got a disc release in Japan.

I say all those things without actually owning one because the price is fucking retarded. And it's retail. Retail killed the idea from the start. And yet they tried. I give 'em props for being that stupid, but they were still that stupid.

Difference is, Micro had a clear reason for owning it -- it was incredibly portable, and could be customized. And maybe it's just me, but I was impressed with how easy it was to see everything on that small of a screen. Very bright.

Now, the market of people wanting a GB Micro might not be that big, but it was at least clearly defined. I didn't want one, but my girlfriend at the time did -- she loved playing GBA games but didn't always like carrying around the SP. The Micro could more easily fit in a pocket or purse and "looked cuter." And of course it played the GBA games she already had. It was an attractive product version for her.

Sony has a continual problem with being unable to define who their market is, leading to confused or apathetic consumers. Who is the PSP Go even for? Is there a real reason why any PSP owner would want to switch to it, considering the various costs? Is there any reason why somebody who didn't own a PSP would want one? Maybe you know the answer, but I'm just not seeing a clear picture of who the PSP Go is "for."

Oh man, Crystal Bearers why? Not even SE's products tagged with "Final Fantasy" are safe anymore. Someone remind me of the most recent SE sale hit that wasn't a mainline FF or DQ.

Thanks, but that's the Famitsu chart.

I just wanted to know where the Media Create data had come from.

I didn't realise it was some big secret.

? That's the Media Create chart.

So can we declare the Final Fantasy brand dead in terms of spin-off unrelated to main series games?

Also: :lol :lol :lol :lol
No. Just DS and Wii can't sell RPGs.

The Wii perhaps (although it really hasn't had much in the way of RPGs to say, IMO) but the DS? Seriously?

Once you ignore Dragon Quest, Pokemon, Final Fantasy, and all those other games that did well, RPGs sell really poorly on the DS.

Just as I gear up to get a Wii at the end of this year, looks like a mass exodus of developers is going to occur with japanese devs just giving up on the Wii completely :lol Nintendo has really failed with the Wii in Japan and Iwata's assurances they'll do better next year just seem too little too late.

I cannot see DQX coming to Wii now at all. It might be a forever portable franchise now.

For there to be a mass exodus, there would have to have been a mass influx...

well they are still well ahead of the competition.. and the wii was set to be the loser system this gen.. considering that it did quite well.. calling it a failure is an exaggeration..

exactly

It has failed from the point of view of "getting games" and marketing the ones they do have and making the Wii an attractive proposition for devs. And thats all that matters to me since I play games, not Nintendo Financial Reports.

And yes, I guess mass exodus would be the wrong term, but to go from "some" to "1 or 2" will very much have a Feast to Famine effect nonetheless.

well you have to consider that nintendo was dead last and they had to make the calculations without thirdparties... that those calculations would prevent thirdparties from comming in once they are successful was not an issue back then i guess...

I was just pointing out that a game not selling well doesn't mean that it's related to platform. Crystal Bearers isn't even an RPG anyway, so I probably shouldn't have even made that point.

I am still flabbergasted to this why there's little major Japanese support for Wii. Until recently, Wii was the leading home console by any metric, and is still the leader in software as far as we know for home consoles, and second only to DS if things are not different.

I don't think anyone was willing to compromise here except for some Japanese third parties. Nintendo wasn't about to spend what Microsoft and Sony spend for exclusives (although it looks like they sure did with Capcom a couple months back), and the tech-heavy third parties wanted nothing to do with the weaker hardware, userbase be damned.

Which really mean consumers be damned.

In my opinion it would have been very clever if Nintendo had a DS successor ready this christmas.

- the DS market is obviously saturated, DSi didn't do shit
- it would have given them a nice jumpstart toward PSP2
- 5 year circle is enough for a handheld, GBA and GBC had far less than 4 years

But they are probably trying to suck the last bit of blood out of it.

PSP - 10
NDS - 8
PS3 - 6
WII - 4
360 - 1
PS2 - 1

Wow. Did this happen before?

Uuh, DS games still have a big presence in the top 50. The DS just recently had a 4 million + seller and an upcoming 2 million + seller. Loads of games are being prepared for next year including a Miyamoto game. What the hell are you talking about?

Besides that, the DSi did an excellent job of maintaining certain momentum and it didn't even have a price drop yet. It may be a little lower now than it was but lets see what happens after the DS LL launch.

Crystal Bearers performance is most...unforseen to say the least, I suppose even Bon Jovi couldn't help. I assume Inazuma Eleven 2 would lose some steam but is continues onward, its good to see Level 5 enjoying more success.

I can't think of a single part of this post that makes sense.
