MHP3 - 2.27 to 2.3 million sold for next weeks figures. I do not think it will surpass black and white sales but it will be close. I think this one is more front loaded simply because how 2, 2G gained popularity over time.

The first week sales could definitely be close, but I don't think the LTD will be anything close to Pokemon at all. Especially not when a lot of people will also be waiting on the budget release and/or 3rd G.

The reason I think LTD might be above it is because of what happened to 2nd and 2nd G. I think most people won't want to wait it out this time since they've been "bitten" by the bug, so to speak.

Pokemon B&W is likely to end up with over 5 million LTD. If you add MHP2, MHP2G, MHP2G The Best, and MHP2G The Best Reprint, you will get over 5 million LTD. Think about that for a moment.

LTD or YTD? There are 4 more weeks for 2010 (5 for Media Create) and it is at 4,5 million.

all i think about is why you combined the sales of p2 and p2g but not pokemon black/white and the inevitable pokemon gray version?

Because B/W is going to hit 5 million without needing a hypothetical "Pokemon Grey"?

Yeah. But the fronloaded nature of this entry of the series has me worried. What's the eaning of it ?

If Pokemon Black and White were 3DS games instead, would they have sold 2.6 million in 2 days? Probably not, because they wouldn't have had the prior build up with a previous series. BW were able to have a lot of their sales early on because the Pokemon fanbase already had their DS systems as a result of buying 1 of the 5 previously released versions on DS.

BW will do fine this holiday. I think it'll only pass 100K once in December, but that's really all it needs. I don't expect Pokemon Gray for another 18 months at the very least, and I think that'll end up being a 3DS-only title. BW will sell for a long time.

It's interesting how I have no idea what some people are trying to discuss any longer. My example was a simple and specific one meant to point out that in order for MPH3 to even have any remote hope of outselling Pokemon B/W, it would need to pretty much hit the max ceiling of total potential consumers who would buy a MHP game today - and possibly more than that.

Did some game shopping last night. All stores were packed, which means the holiday is under full swing. Noticed quite a few PSP and Wii systems getting sold. With the Wii, people tend to buy the red system with either Super Mario Collection, Wii Sports Resort, NSMB Wii or Mario Kart Wii. With the PSP, it's tougher to say since MHP3 is still sold out, but I'm sure other games like Tactics Ogre are top picks, as well as the newer colors. Actually haven't noticed many DS or PS3 systems selling, but I'm sure they're selling well too.

I expect Ni no Kuni and Donkey Kong Returns to have good starts.

New games/prices at the Sofmap bomba bin:

Wario Land Shake - ¥980
Madworld - ¥1480
The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks - ¥980
Dragon Quest Monsters Joke 2 - ¥1980 (new version coming out soon)
Inazuma Eleven 3 - ¥1980
Shin Sangoku Musou Multiraid (PS3) - ¥1980

- [WII] Mario Sports Mix ~20%
As usually initial shipments estimates from azalyn match the real so that 1,5-1,8 million for MHP3 must not be very far from reality.

Any idea why we never get shipments for Nintendo titles?

Nothing for/against predicting for these I guess?

Thanks! :) I'm good now (had trouble with Nov 1-7, but found enough info to work with), and I'll start saving them weekly, too, just in case. In previous cases, I could skip a few weeks, and then go back to Google to find the pages. This time, though, the pages were saying they expired...

Sports Mix will do well this holiday. There's no need to worry about that game.

Not so sure about this, could go either way.

1. Arashi is busy hyping Hyping Donkey Kong, Sport Mix isn't getting first tier advertising treatment(golden sun level commercials)

2. the game's only been out for a week but already managed to make it onto the nomination list for games that went against sales exceptions from retailers(Literally translated crappy sales, games of 2010).

Anybody have any guess on what's behind monster hunter's shipment problems? On purpose?

Amazon is sold out till the 17th, many retailer blogs are reporting they are now on taking reservations for the 4th shipment/5th shipment(having already completely sold out of reservation slots for the other shipments).

If retailers take reservations for 4th and 5th shipment this means they know how big 2nd and 3rd shipment are and maybe when they will be delivered. Since we entered the busy December season and disk printing cycles can't change so easily it has more to do with bad shipment programming from Capcom / Sony.

So will GT5 break a mil?
Big games on PS3 have a first week sales/total sales ranging from ~0.55 (Winning Eleven 2010) to ~0.8 (Finaly Fantasy)

That gives a LTD for GT5 from 550k (FF XIII-legs) to 750k (WE 2K10-legs). I'm leaning to believe that the game will have pretty good legs, becoming the second best-selling PS3 game above MGS4 (~720k).

But to reach one million, it'll need to show really unusual legs for a game on PS3, a ration under 0.45. I'd bet a cent on no.

1st Week Ratios for PS3 Games > 500K LTD:

PS3 Final Fantasy XIII - 79.7%
PS3 Yakuza 4: Heir to the Legend - 71.4%
PS3 Hokuto no Ken: Musou - 70.5%
PS3 Yakuza 3 - 70.1%
PS3 Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriot - 67.4%
PS3 Resident Evil 5 - 61.8%

FFXIII is a big outlier (though expected for the series). Outside of that, it would put GT5 at 600-700K, if Famitsu 1st week = MC 1st week, and it doesn't go outside the current range of PS3 > 500K LTD titles.

Edit:
For GT series, GT4 was the worst % at 62.2%, which would be at the upper end of that range.

The first week sales could definitely be close, but I don't think the LTD will be anything close to Pokemon at all. Especially not when a lot of people will also be waiting on the budget release and/or 3rd G.

Thats how I feel on the whole situation too. Pokemon has to much of a culture phenomena behind it that MH cannot match.

I also hope Wifi play is available in this release. Its the only reason why I have not gotten the other two (well I should say play the other two as much). My friends live far away since I moved.

So, New Super Mario Bros. Wii hit 4 million sold units in Japan this chart week, according to Enterbrain.

To celebrate the landmark, I've updated the Mario chart (suggested by Cheesemeister). I was intending to update it on NSMB Wii's year anniversary, but this seems like a better occasion to do so. Enjoy!

SMG2?

Did this game bomb in Japan? I can't remember
apparently it did?

Ok, got ya....just thought it had done better. I mean obviously the whole 2D vs. 3D thing is in effect, but the sales of NSMBW are sooo much higher. The disparity between 2D Mario sales and 3D Mario sales is much larger than in Japan than in the US...

So Amazon's final Lightning Deal for today was StressEraser Portable Biofeedback device. Basically a portble pulse-ox monitor designed to help you relax easier. This is what the Vitality Sensor will do. The Lightning Deal sold out. Hardly a strong measure, but it does show that there are some people out there looking for how to relax.

I still think Wii 2 in Fall 2011 in Japan and Spring 2012 elsewhere (or Spring/Fall 2012 with 3DS's delay) would be best, but maybe Vitality Sensor will do something for Wii. It'd have almost no use in traditional games, but if Nintendo can get it out there and hype it enough to make people aware of it, maybe. Hopefully they'll push it to the next system and use that as part of the "excuse" to come out with a new system, though. :D
