Now? No, probably not. The used market is now enjoying the fruits of Atlus's miscalculation. A timely second shipment in the second week? I bet we'd be talking 150k+ right now instead of 120k.

It was just like Infinite Space or w/e. It was like the game was only out for a single week.

Interestingly enough, Infinite Space and Strange Journey share many, many similarities. Both are heavily text-driven narratives, made with extremely low rent presentation, and yet both still took up 1gbit carts because of the sheer volume of content. I wonder if the lower budget factors combined with the large cart size influenced the difficulty for both games to get restocked in a timely fashion...

Which comes out on top for 2009 can really come down to the difference of one week, which really says a lot about how close the PS3 and Wii truly are. A Wii victory won't mean very much, while a PS3 one will have huge implications.

The real question is, if the PS3 continues this upwards trend does this mean Square Enix will move DQX from the Wii to the PS3? :lol Game won't be out for another 4 years anyway, no matter what SE says about the release date!

It wasn't even a case of double paying. I don't think it's realistic at all to expect a new studio with zero HD experience to suddenly be able to develop a multiplatform game running at 60fps within 2 years. Even a massive developer like Capcom, which Platinum was formally part of, released two 360 titles before they were comfortable enough to do multiplatform titles. Platinum simply wouldn't have been able to deliver another version without serious compromises on the entire game itself. It makes more sense for them to work on the game itself on a single platform to ensure the best possible quality of the actual content.

Will be interesting to see the kind of boost the PS3 will get with the release of WE. One thing is for sure, the battle between Wii and PS3 will be a close one, but if i had to choose, i would say the PS3 has the better chance for taking the year in Japan.

Strange Journey is out of the top30, which means it sold <6k. That's the end for it. I suppose the LTD for the 2009 Top500 will be somewhere between 120k to 140k. Pretty pathetic. Even Raidou 2 could make those sales. I guess it should have been on consoles after all. :lol

So... the people who got banned in that first topic for "WHY HANDHELDS!?" stuff are somewhat vindicated after all? But in all seriousness, this is rather depressing.

While Sin and Punishment at least doubled its first day sales, those are still... not good to look at. As discussed in the previous topic, while we could logically assume that this should not impact the NA/EU release due to how the reason the game even exists is due to regional VC sales, I'm still going to remain skeptical at this point. This generation as taught me that every company is prone to making absolutely stupid localization-related decisions at one point or another.

Okay, but you've also got to take into effect that FFXIII is better than the nothing that came out for the PS3 late last year.

If you're using FFXIII as the standard, then nothing has ever been released on the PS3 in Japan. Gundam Musou 2 and White Knight Chronicles came out on PS3 in Japan last December. Wii had Taiko last December.

Get on the ball, Iwata.

Drop the price to 15K (keeping price parity is stupid when the Japanese version doesn't include Wii Sports) yen with a voucher for a free NSMBWii for anyone who bought a Wii since Oct. 1 in Japan.

A situation like that is not unique for a Japanese company, even Nintendo. The Advance Wars series is proof to this (Japan still has not gotten Days of Ruin/Dark Conflict). Hell, the Metroid series as well has hit its fair share of snags in Japan. If S&P does extraordinary well overseas, then it's quite possible that they'll simply hold off on Japanese releases. For all intents and purposes, it's reasonable to speculate that this might be some big trouble for the S&P IP in Japan strictly.

People keep saying that, probably because someone at NoA said it, but the Iwata asks doesn't make it seem accurate. Nintendo hoped for a S&P Wii for a long time, Maegawa wanted to make it due to the control system. I'm unconvinced VC sales had anything to do with the game's development, though they may be used to justify releasing it in the West.
