There are pictures from point-of-sale, but if I post them on here I'll be banned.

Either way, it's definitely aimed at the hairier-palmed of the gamer set.
That may be true (actually I'm sure it is), I'm just saying that there are more games aimed at that demographic and they usually don't have any legs at all. Bloke's claim that it has great word of mouth for its story would explain why this one is an exception.

Is...is the Clover curse broken? Dare I say it, but does Kamiya get to drink from the goblet marked 'Success' once again after so long?!

The Clover curse is only subjected to Clover. Which is why Clover was closed down. Everyone who was in Clover has made many successful games for Capcom, just not under the Clover label. While Bayonetta is the biggest success Kamiya has seen in quite a while, it's still not as success as Resident Evil 2 or Devil May Cry. The first game he ever directed will forever be the best selling game he ever directed. I don't see it ever changing. :lol

Those are some seriously shitty numbers for a new Super Robot Wars game. Is this a new game or some half assed port of an old one?

I think it's a "port" of the 360 one which was a "remake" of something else. Whatever the case is, it's not a completely new SRW title. It's a B-lister.

It´s a SRW with mostly unpopular mecha-franchises for children under 8 years and in 3D.

maybe it''s because SEGA's charm n magic :p

Capcom just didn't gave Clover the time or the marketing like what SEGA did , you can see SEGA gave Bayo the highest priority , Clover were just like some sort of adopted B-rated studio in Capcom and all the attention and money was/still with almighty Inafune.

Its like bizarro world, but the truth :lol

Not only was it the Clover curse, but also the Sega one to boot. I thought the curse had followed them with Madworld bombing as it did, but Bayonetta looks set to make a new standard for the company to grow from.

PS3 3rd party sales are not monstrous, what encompasses the super high end? MGS4, RE5,

MGS4 has show the MGS series to be nearly platform independent when it comes to its sales. RE5 is much less than it should've been. RE4 was neutered due to being put on the GameCube first. RE5 was neutered by not being part of an overall third-party support for the market-leading platform. I still think RE can be a million-seller franchise in Japan (without combining BEST re-releases or different platforms), but the last two releases haven't done much to support that idea.

markatisu said:
I think things will pretty stay as is with few exceptions on each side in regards to 3rd party sales.

Which is bad for third-parties in Japan on consoles. From that perspective, they are probably very hopeful that the Wii2 rumors for next year will pan out.

You'd have to be counting on December to push HG/SS over G/S, by this point. Not a bad thing to count on, though.

I think its usually a pretty good discussion, though I agree that people would be wise to wait a few months to see how it plays out. If in January Wii goes back to selling 20K a week like it did January 2009, then I think we can legitimately say Nintendo has a very serious and potentially fatal problem in Japan.

I'd like to add every Pokemon game but that would make the chart difficult to read since only three games can be seen without having to scroll the bar. I'll replace FR/LG with DQ IX (in two weeks I guess) but I don't want to replace G/S with D/P from now because I want to see how much distance HG/SS can cover from it until the end of the year.

After 8 weeks:

[GBA] Pokemon Ruby / Sapphire (Pokemon Co.) |21/11/02| - 126.398 / 3.732.991
[NDS] Pokemon Diamond / Pearl (Pokemon Co.) |28/09/06| - 101.113 / 3.161.145
[NDS] Pokemon Heart Gold / Soul Silver (Pokemon Co.) |12/09/09| - 69.000 / 2.840.000

After 5 weeks:

[WII] Wii Fit (Nintendo) |01/12/07| - 80.691 / 818.166
[WII] Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo) |25/06/09| - 66.881 / 735.226
[WII] Wii Fit Plus (Nintendo) |01/10/09| - 73.000 / 733.000

It's a good discussion. It's just boring to see it replayed week after week when we don't actually get much new evidence towards either conclusion.

Then again, I don't want to make it my business to continue to complain about something week after week (oh, the irony), so maybe I'll just shut up instead.

Nintendo pretty much marketed the system like a WiiSport machine, so it's a shared fault. Nintendo hasn't really pushed shit outside the WiiBrand title, so people perception can be hardly changed.

PSP has taken its pricedrop and the PSP Go quite well, lol. Not much of a PS3 bump, although it doesn't surprise since there were no bundles. Should do well next week too with WE2010 bundle.

Just if there was any doubt, Sony is already pimping the PSP for the holidays.

The PSP-3000, that is.

4 colors Value Pack at 19800Y (the old Core Pack price), it comes with a 4GB MS.

Well placed, since they are out on 12/3, which has most PSP software hits for Christmas reunited (Gundam vs Gundam Next Plus, Phantasy Star Portable 2 and Tokimeki Memorial 4). They will need any help they can get.

But since on 12/10 there's Naruto Shippuden: Narutimate Accel 3 and WE2010, they are also rehashing their MHP2G starter bundle at 18,500Y this time (Blue PSP + The Best! re-release of MHP2G). And there's a WE2010 bundle as well at 21000Y.

Agree and disagree. They certainly marketed the machine more towards the casual brands, but the bottom line is, there just haven't been many high profile 3rd party games for Nintendo to even market.

Actually, SRW Neo is a completely different and new SRW that is also of the 3D variety, which is also why the scores and sales are lower.

The 360 SRWXO :)lol) was an updated port of SRW GC.

I wonder why Banpresto even bothers with these 3d SRWs. I'm pretty sure that a SRW using mostly reused sprites from previous SRWs + a few token new animations would sell better than these 3d games (which, besides the one 360 port, had to be made from scratch graphics-wise).

There wasn't much software out this year for the PSP that could really push units. The only one I felt had potential to push hardware numbers was Gran Turismo. And considering it's performance compared to past Gran Turismo titles, yeah, not so much of a handheld seller. I'm also sure it didn't help that from the beginning of the year there were mumblings about a new PSP.

Next year will be better for sure.

I'm just having fun with you but bringing up the psp isn't going to stop the wii sales from being less than ideal and being a main topic of discussion, just like the failure of the ps3 compared to ps2 was the big story the past few years.

Contrary to popular belief, there are not millions upon millions of Wii owners who've just plain decided that they're only gonna buy games made by Nintendo. They buy the games that are made for them, and so far Nintendo have had to supply most of it themselves. Wii finally got it's first AAA third party game this year though, and lo and behold, people bought it!

I don't presume to speak for Schuelma, but 687k to 462.8k is a 32.6% drop, not a 40% drop. Furthermore, since the PSP numbers are YTD rather than just September, I should point out that Wii's YTD drop in the US is 22%. (Finally, Wii's 2009 January to September YTD in the US is still better than any January to September YTD of any home console before it, so they're more impressive on an absolute scale as well.)

I wonder why. I guess it's just the intrinsic nature of PS3 to sell third-party software better than Wii. I mean if PS3 had gotten Dragon Quest Swords, Monster Hunter 3, and ... I'm sure it'd be doing as well in total third-party sales as it is now with RE5, SFIV, MGS4, Gundam Musou, DMC4, fully pushed Winning Elevens, real sequels to PS2 games, etc. Put RE5, SFIV, Gundam Musou, etc. on the Wii? Total bombaville. Wii just can't sell third-party software.

Thanks for pointing that out, onken!

Which was a pretty dumb thing to say since PS3 has higher 3rd party sales, which I pointed out. Though next time I'll be sure to leave glaring errors uncorrected lest you have another little tantrum at the injustice of it all.

Dragon Quest X is a high profile game which will have a huge advertising campaign. Monster Hunter 3 proved that when Wii gets these games, they sell and they sell well. I don't believe PS3 Monster Hunter would sell 1 million copies, let alone the difference in buddet it would have.
And since Dragon Quest X sales will be mainly from Japan the only other platform it could head would be DS or PSP.

Yep I agree with all those points (and have never said anything to the contrary).

Its not really that dumb as the Wii has higher sales for a single 3rd party title.

For a few months in between MGS4 and FF13? Excuse me if I don't pop the champers. In any rate, MH is currently a way bigger franchise than MGS so it's hardly a surprise.
