Wow. Software sales on the PSP have really turned around in Japan. And the software sales on the PS3 are picking up little by little.

I see that Monster Hunter 3's off the charts. At this point the million's still guaranteed by the end of the year, but it's still a pity that it couldn't hang much longer.

So basically we won't know whether DQIX passed the 4 million mark until... when?

And I really hope we get first day numbers for Sin and Punishment 2 soon.

PSP sales are better than they once were, but that doesn't exactly mean that they're good either. It's the same with the PS3.

That's really surprising by some extent. Partly because third parties did a good job on PSP and partly because Nintendo dropped DS's support since the Wii came out. And third parties did not think twice to switch on PSP when they had the opportunity.

Always the same story after all: third parties work with Nintendo only if they really haven't another decent choice. Nintendo should dramatically increase its first party output IMO.

I don't think this week would be a good example. Software sales aren't all that good for PSP this week. DS has excellent software sale this week, Wii has fairly poorly with a big game doing continued good numbers (but there really isn't anything that should have done better), though DS is still the software king.

Wow, 360 sold nearly half as much software as DS. Go 360!

The only way to save my sanity is for every buyer to purchase at least three copies.

Wanna help?

Reasonably so. Given paltry end of week sales after the first-day sales it is quite a surprise. Not as bad as some people were making it out to be in the other MC thread. Especially considering that it's now outsold the original Uncharted (sans The Best) in just 2 weeks. 100k is likely and that's more than a lot of western games in Japan can say for themselves.

R E I R O M, an... eccentric Brazilian who ... uh, gets around the internet. Virtually every gaming-related web community has been "graced by his presence". He speaks gibberish English, saying stuff like "****** am Brazil!" or "Midas Netal". He also had a habit of calling people "papangus". I don't know if any of those things are real words. Probably best not to continue discussing him.

No, it did good. Just because XBOTS like you don't appreciate the deep and influential morality tale that unfolds as Nathan Drake is forced to choose between Chloe and Elena doesn't mean it's not there.

Well, people still say Wii third party sales are well, even if the games are at the bottom of the charts.

Papangu is a real word in Portuguese, by the way.

Being on topic, I wonder if with the DSi, DSL, DSLL, DSLOL, PSP and PSPGo the trackers will still give us numbers separately.

Uhuh. I guess I should be glad to have missed this period of GAF's history, then.

Almost half a million for IE2, although 800k may still be a bit of a stretch, we'll see how the drops go from here.

And now that Koei have (hopefully) wrung every last drop from the DW6 set of assests maybe they can move on to a proper sequel. I want new characters, more decloning, more stages, refreshed stages and scrap the the Renbu system.

There's still Shin Sangoku Musou 5 Empires coming to PSP on Dec. 23, if you didn't know about it.

Yeah I don't think that's going to happen. It will reach it eventually, but not by the end of the year, barring some huge increase in December.

"Turned around" is probably overstating it: it's likely that all ten PSP games on the chart combined got outsold by the number 1 DS game.

I mean, it's done pretty well in Japan so far probably because of the incredible cover art.

last week (15th week on the charts):
14. [NDS] Dragon Quest IX: Hoshizora no Mamoribito (Square Enix) - 15,000 / 3,984,000

this week (16th week on the charts):
Im guessing around 10,000 to 15,000 sold bringing the total around 3,994,000-3,999,000.

edit: OCT 30 2009 - UPDATE:
This week (week 16 on the charts)
12. [NDS] Dragon Quest IX: Hoshizora no Mamoribito (Square Enix) - 12,000 / 3,995,000

so

by (17th week on the charts) Media Create Sales Oct 26 - Nov 2 it should reach and surpass 4 mil. making history for the franchise (first and fastest to 4 million).

edit 2: DQ9 is on pace to finish with around 4.1 million sold minimum to a maximum of 4.5 million sold.

Not to rehash this debate, but I don't think you can call it disappointing. It's still on track to sell a million copies which represents a significant improvement over the PS2 iterations. It's a success. Maybe a qualified success because Capcom probably expected/wanted another shipment, but I doubt anyone is crying any tears or anything.

Don't get me wrong, I think it was a success. I was just hoping for better.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.

Oh ok..you said it was "pretty disappointing" which seemed to preclude it being a success.

The two aren't mutually exclusive. Getting a silver medal is a success, but disappointing if you were going for gold :)

I still can't get over how PS3 is outselling Wii in software sales every week lately...
Is it? There are two Wii games in the top 10, selling a combined 107,000 copies, and two PS3 games selling 38,000.
Then, in the rest of the top 30, you have PS3 games at 21, 22, 27 and 29, and Wii games at 26 and 28. We can safely assume they sold no more than 10,000 each, which would put an upper limit of 127,000 Wii games sold in the top 30, and 78,000 PS3 games.

Based on the figures above I'm not sure that's right. The two Wii titles in the top 10 alone should have pretty much sold more than all the PS3 titles in the top 30 (Assuming ~17k or below sales for everything 10 to 30).

Edit - Beaten.

I guess I should rephrase that......I'm probably incorrect as I did not do the math....

I was just looking at the number of titles in the top 30 (PS3 - 6, Wii - 4) not the aggregate total software sales.

Still surprised at how well Call of Duty 4 is doing, one of the 3 titles to actually go up compared to previous weeks. With both the original and BEST release, sales must be climbing towards 200,000 by now. Is this the best a FPS has performed in Japan(in recent years at least)?

You can look at the weekly Famitsu software pie to see which system is selling more despite the number of titles in the top 30/50.

PS3 was ahead for 4 weeks starting with the slim launch. Wii has been ahead, since Wii Fit Plus went on sale, for three weeks (certainly four, but we don't have the data yet) and counting.

What? MHP2G Best already reached a million copies.
Those are sales for the 2009 Famitsu calendar year alone. MHP2G indeed is over one million, but part of that was in 2008.

It will outsell MH3 this year. With 9 weeks left for 2009. It will need to do 9,552 copies a week to reach the MH3 number.
