PSP go sells 28,275 units in 1 day.
PSP LTD = 12,797,180 (2004.12.02 ~ 2009.10.25)
wow, great news.

Not only they won't count all PSP together weekly, they also won't add PSP Go sales to PSP1000 to 3000 total either, hence why they give us the last week total for those. Good news indeed :p

"Desperate"? Please. I'm just showing a contradiction with your notion that the US market is only interested in cheap downloadable.

By and large it is. A well-designed but niche service like Steam, selling to a small percentage of total users on a platform that itself has a small number of proponents outside the broad casual market captured by its top 5-ish titles, is good evidence that DD has a future but piss-poor evidence that its time (as a major market force) is here now.

Steam is, absolutely, the best-positioned DD service in existence for any platform; it has phenomenal functionality, very good software coverage, and compelling use cases. And even so it's still a relatively small part of the overall gaming landscape. Something that, unlike Steam, is facing huge structural challenges upfront (i.e. the Go) is going to do worse until we reach a point where those challenges abate.

what? they released the first day sales of Go in US? where?

Based on some examination of the PSP numbers reported in last month's NPD, we're fairly certain they were < 70k for the first week on sale.

People hate on all new systems because they feel something is wrong with it or are nevous about it's prospects (ie they fear change). Over time consoles develop an identity, become more appealing and peole come to like them more and forget their initial irrationality and fear. Some people of course never do but they're usually idiots.

This is a ridiculous argument. Systems aren't all magically great; some of them are just shitty. It's not in any way irrational to maintain a dislike of a shitty system.

Inasmuch as there's a comparison between the GBM and PSP Go, it's that the GBM was a seriously overpriced system whose functionality was a solid upgrade to a small minority of users but largely undesirable to everyone else -- the difference is that Nintendo never intended their system as anything but an extremely limited run and therefore the fact that it was a terrible value prospect for 90+% of users was not a drawback the way it is for the Go, positioned as a valuable member of the PSP family going forward.

You're just making stuff up. PSP Go isn't a successor, it's simply a co-current system exactly in the same way the Micro was. Sony has been explict with this. If it is/was a huge success then maybe, yes, they would go ahead and put it above the 3000 line. In fact this is how the current DS and DSi came to be. They were tangential systems that caught on in a big way. They weren't originally replacements but they were successful that it altered Nintendo's strategy. Go like Micro is probably unlikely to do this but that doesn't mean it doesn't have merits.

I agree with that fact. However I was more so concerned about him saying that digital distribution only thrives on cheap games outside of small niches.

Yes STEAM is small in comparison to other forms of digital distribution but it's definitely relevant in the industry.

Sorry to trim your post but I agree with what your saying, I'm not saying that STEAM is an indicator that digital distribution will take storm, but more so using it to counter a statement saying that the US market only purchases small and cheap downloadable games.

The Go's marketing campaign is the same as the PS3 Slim's. That stupid "Playface" stuff.

I was doing one of these threads' no-nos and talking about America for a sec.

The second-week increase wasn't enormous, but you're right that it was shipment sizes that constrained it. DS Lite sold more each week for 5 weeks, and the first dip was followed by even bigger numbers.

Oh, so it was like the PSP Go.

Yeah, pretty much ;-)

Here are the first eight weeks of the DSL, BTW:

Week 1 - 67k
Week 2 - 88k
Week 3 - 99k
Week 4 - 127k
Week 5 - 148k
Week 6 - 174k
Week 7 - 160k
Week 8 - 186k

Ideally, when the PSP Go proves so popular there's no more demand for the PSP 3000. Of course, this won't happen, and so Sony will forever sell the older model.

Anyhoo, I presume I missed the weekly "Nintendo fucked Japan" discussion. Regular time this week, I guess?

The Go novelty took over this week, but don't worry, next week Or the one after it will be back to normal, and we'll have our usual nintendofuckedjp.jpg charts as usual.

Did... you just, like, see that I posted something negative about the PSP Go and make the standard response? :lol

My entire point is that the Go is an optional side-offering, like the GBM (which is good) and one that's overpriced and under-delivering, also like the GBM (which is bad), but that unlike the GBM, it's planned as an ongoing part of the PSP product line rather than a limited edition (which is also bad.)

Strange Journey is out of the top30, which means it sold <6k. That's the end for it. I suppose the LTD for the 2009 Top500 will be somewhere between 120k to 140k. Pretty pathetic. Even Raidou 2 could make those sales. I guess it should have been on consoles after all. :lol

It's interesting how the PS3 got a noticeable boost with the new releases and the 360 pretty much didn't.

well if they couldn't afford the plastic to print a second shipment in time, the larger console sized boxes would have given them even more trouble

Probably the large amount of digital re-releases sparked by the Go.

And PS3 sales are up again. Besting the Wii by a good amount.

What is the LTD on PS3 versus Wii?

That's probably because it can be as cheap as free.

The most popular model since July has been the 3GS 32GB model. So while you are right in some respect, the most expensive model and the one that is most definitely not free is the one people want. Either way you look at it the iPhone has turned the corner though, the demand is there.

Did... you just, like, see that I posted something negative about the PSP Go and make the standard response? :lol

My entire point is that the Go is an optional side-offering, like the GBM (which is good) and one that's overpriced and under-delivering, also like the GBM (which is bad), but that unlike the GBM, it's planned as an ongoing part of the PSP product line rather than a limited edition (which is also bad.)

i can care less about the Go, i enjoy it, but its clear its not for everyone, and most likely not for many, but you're making no sense to me.

If the PSP Go! was going to replace whats currently available then you can have a point, but it will stay an offered red headed step child that will get a small handful of sales, but i fail to see how it will in any way affect the other PSP model(s) available.

How does it being an ongoing part of the PSP product line make any kind of difference if there is something else being offered with more appeal at a cheaper price? I dont understand how it will affect gamers/sales/customer perception one bit if its an optional sku. Thats like saying the PSX was a cancer on the PS2
