Down 10% but up 9 places.

PS3 best selling hardware of the week out of nowhere.

PSP seems to be affected by shortages.
DS is about to collapse and being replaced by 3DS.
PS3 is doing suspiciously fine considering that there hasn't been any big release, bundle or Sony's action lately.
Wii is clearly in a downward spiral, things could get really ugly soon (<10k weekly sales) if Nintendo doesn't do anything.

I didn't want to believe it, but I think there is some merit to people buying PS3s now that it's hacked to pirate games.

I think the compleate and utter death of 360 is easy to note

Mass effect 2 sold 10,000 less then Mass effect one(although the news that it was coming out on ps3 in america probably didn't help sales)

Fable 3 last year sold 10,000 less then Fable 2.

I'm not talking for budget re-releases.

[PSP] Monster Hunter Freedom (Capcom) {2005.12.01} - 118.317 / 668.964 / 17,69%
[PSP] Monster Hunter Freedom 2 (Capcom) {2007.02.22} - 746.313 / 1.723.187 / 43,31%
[PSP] Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (Capcom) {2008.03.27} - 823.265 / 2.453.132 / 33,56%

So 12.1m, 5m or 6.4m for MHP3 to match their legs.

Well yeah, huge fucking news everyone, MHP3 won't have the legs to beat two thirds or their brethren for sure and the remaining third is dubious lol

How can they afford to translate a huge game like Mass Effect 2 when the sales are like this? Under 10'000 would be megabomb for an English translation of a Japanese game...

It sells on.... absolutely nothing

It could be argued to some extent that torne to ps3 is a little bit like what dvd was to ps2, A nice and easy relativity cheap HD recorder.

Too bad we don't get torne numbers.

The PS3 is a very expensive BluRay player now

You can get good ones for 129-149$, I really don't buy the "cheap player angle" anymore

Answer 1) A ton of games, domestic Japanese or not, start out at under 10K a week.

Answer 2) If Microsoft was going to not localize games due to worries of poor performance, they'd probably have not even bother to release the hardware. They've got to push it.

This IS a big step down from the first ME's 18K first week, though.

Like i said in last weeks thread, in my humble opinion the recent hardware 'bump' combined with the lack of software in the top 20 only points to the ps3 now being pirated for free games.

Last year ps3 sold 35,156 on week 2.

The top ps3 games that week were
12. / 06. [PS3] Final Fantasy XIII (Square Enix)
17. / 16. [PS3] Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Square Enix)
20. / 00. [PS3] Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising (Codemasters)

Systems for older gamers historically sell better after the holidays.

(yes this goes against the torne theory)

Pretty much this. The PS3 is a consistent seller, so more like a marathon runner than a sprinter.

I can't believe I just quoted Kaz Hirai

Hmmm...I guess if you are Microsoft you can afford to do these things. I guess it would have sold a lot more if the PS3 version would have been published at the same time too..

Sorry if this been covered already, but what's the launching price of 3DS in Japan?

In Europe it's been speculated it will coser more than the current retail price of a PS3. Isn't that terrible expensive for a handheld?

Jeeze SCEJ, ship some PSPs from North America or something. It's pathetic you can't keep up with demand 6 years after it launched.

This breaks my heart :( why can't they just all wait one month so Nintendo decrease the price in total panic ? :(

I don't have the money to buy a 3DS either, and I'm pretty sure the moment my country sells one it will be twice the price now. But I'm not hoping for an entire country to boycott the launch just because it's way above my current buying capabilities you know.

Completely agree that it's heading to 10K and less range if it's 21K the second week of January. Maybe this will wake up Nintendo enough to lower the price 10K Yen (you know, make it reasonably priced considering no pack-ins and waiting way too long to drop the price in Japan in the first place) and spur on Wii 2's release.

Can't see how Square-Enix would be happy with sub-10K weekly sales for the system with the next DQ coming out on it. :/

OK guys. So while I got burnt out by/distracted from keeping up with the weekly updates at Garaph, a year change seemed a good time to do a massive data dump. So Famitsu 2009 Top 1000, 2010 weekly Top 30s, mid-2010 Top 100, and full-2010 Top 100 are in. This means over 700 new games added, and a couple thousand individual bits of sales data, which also means a bunch of errors. I caught some things like incorrect publishers from the lists I was using, but there are surely more. I also almost added in 57 games twice. Since putting the data up I've found a few more, like when Golden Sun: Dark Dawn and UFC 2010 were showing up as million sellers. :)

Also, warning that there is a lot of Babelfish. With those hundreds of games it was much easier to run the list through Google and fix the major ones than to go through all the weekly threads to get the Good Version names. Thus, new classic games like 4589.

Also, a repost of my last update; since I put it at the end of one weekly thread before noticing the next weekly thread had started, most probably didn't see it.

SO HEY GUYS. Software data is still way the hell out of date, but I've just put in the rest of 2010's Famitsu and Media Create hardware data at Garaph.

Also, this is a few months old but new to you because I never told anyone, but along with the existing DS and PSP versions of the site, there's also a Kindle one.

Still NOT yet updated since last March are the Famitsu software pie data and links to the weekly Famitsu hardware/software pages.

Thank you!

It's a weird week. Nearly everybody is down ~ 50%. Except PSP.

ALL | 122.584 | 242.524 |

The whole market dropped 50% on the whole week over week.

I mean, if the Wii were to drop another 50% from this point to later this year to reach 10K, then that means that the other systems (sans the PSP perhaps), would be selling in the 15K range if the ratios stay the same. I don't really buy this argument. I don't see the Wii going 10K, PS3 to 15K, DS to 15K, later this year.

Just seems like a weak week.

I've been there and I know how annoying and tiring is to update when you are months behind.

Famitsu started deleting the links to hardware/software some months ago.
