ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Kinda surprising the PS3 outsold the Wii despite not charting any games in this week's top 20 as compared to Wii's 7 games.

Required to note: PSP is still extremly supply constrained, practically every retailer blog reports major shortages for this week, My local area stores are listing the buy price for used ones as 14,000 yen

Game Republic's next-gen game Majin, which Namco set initial goals of 1 million worldwide, didn't chart.

I wonder how quickly the price will drop in Japan, seeing how it was going for $22.99 on Amazon the week after it released in North America.

More so, I presume, that the + cat is now truly out of the proverbial bag.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

Seems like everyone own a DS now and at this point ppl. are just waiting for the 3DS.

Eigo de Tabisuru: Little Charo

What's this, a Nintendo published title I never heard of, and shooting straight towards the bottom of the charts? Rather curious I find this to be.

PS3:
2010 Week 1 - 62k (Titles in top20: 2 in positions 6 and 16)
2010 Week 2 - 35k (Titles in top20: 3 in positions 12, 17 and 20)
2010 Week 3 - 27k (Titles in top20: 1 in position 19)

2011 Week 1 - 60k (Titles in top20: 1 in position 7)
2011 Week 2 - 33k (Titles in top20: 3 in positions 6, 9 and 20)
2011 Week 3 - 24k (Titles in top20: 0)

Yeah, such shocking figures PS3 is putting up...really, never seen anything like that before.

In celebration of Sony's amazing lost opportunity, I present to you the oosaka's king store's survey he took of his retailer friends: 2010's top Chance loss games(Around 12 different stores, in no way a valid sample, but fun anyways)

Games that sold-out quickly/ far above exceptions and retailers weren't able to get new shipments in fast enough, thus lost the most profits.

Retailers blame chance losses on the distribution system. Retailers take 100% of the losses on unsold games(no return system) so they are very reserved in ordering. If they order 100 copies and 8 don't sell, they are in the red. With profits like that no choice but to sell used games.

*list of games*
Cool read, thanks for posting this! :)

Only the PSP seems to be holding up, but even it seems to be about drop into the 20s.
How can you tell?

It seems that the PS3 is now selling on the strength that it is finally possible to install Linux again on the system. Hence the numbers for the PS3 are up, the numbers for SW are down. I expect the same in the west. Will be interesting to see, whether the PS3 sales will now increase in the US as well (and the SW numbers will go down).

You've got to be kidding.

I think the average consumer doesn't know what Linux is.

I wonder if it's jailbreak related.

That was my point. Of course ppl will not install Linux but install the PS3 games library on their hard disk. So why buy games if you already have them on your hard disk? Suprising to see that this happens in Japan, the PSP SW sales are still fine there (compared to the US where they are dead).

I get what you are hinting at (Jailbreak/piracy) but the thought of Linux based anything causing a rush on hardware just makes lol

Maybe someone (Japanese Army, ...) is building a supercomputer out of a cluster of couple of thousands Linux PS3s? :)

Dying? No but slowing down. The 3DS is coming out soon so people will wait for that.

what I want to know is "PSPgo: 198" What is going on HERE? Talk about dead! Less than 200 sales? Jesus.

03. / 00. [NDS] Kingdom Hearts Re:coded (Square Enix) {2010.10.07} - 95.505 / NEW

01. / 00. [PSP] Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep - Final Mix (Square Enix) {2011.01.20} - 77.317 / NEW

This is interesting, because if you combine the sales of both BbS Final Mix and Re:Coded, even though they're on different platforms, you get about the opening sales of....

01./00. [PS2] Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix+ (Square-Enix) - 173,212 / NEW

Which included both KH2 Final Mix, as well as the Re:CoM remake. Obviously we can't just add the sales and draw a direct conclusion, but I do think there is very specific evidence here apart from also obvious decline in the KH series in general, that the very hardcore KH fans might be split between those who would buy a remake, those who would buy a Final Mix, and those who who would buy both (much smaller number).

It's also interesting to note that while it seems that KH2 FM+'s 173k is "consistent" with the KHFM sales of 163k (Famitsu launch week, no MC number), the sales of the Ultimate Hits version of KH compared with KH2 have shown that KH2 doesn't have anywhere close to the legs that KH had for the budget releases. This definitely implies that if KH2 FM+ did not include a brand new remake of CoM in the package, it will probably not have sold as much.

Why hasn't Capcom started releasing two versions of Monster Hunter on the same day? They could do the Pokemon thing and add a couple exclusive monsters to each game and sell another 2 million units easily.

Linux isn't even working yet on hacked PS3s. Well not released anyway.

Versus and XIII-2 are the far more likely cause.

Seems 3DS anticipation is really eating into DS sales. Do we know if Nintendo's going to pricedrop the DSi & DSiLL when the 3DS releases?

There would be no point.
Unlike the US, Japan moves on to the new hardware very quickly.

Lowering the price again now would just mean lower revenue overall.

What fool is going to buy a PS3 for XIII-2 who didn't buy one for XIII?

Of course piracy has some impact here.

If I was a Japanese person who only casually likes JRPGs, I may jump in when I feel a console has a decent enough library. A XIII-2 may be the thing.

The bigger question is, does Nintendo care?
At this point I think the answer is no. Nintendo has to be in Console Successor mode at this point.
