is this the year when ps3 overtake wii?
It will never overtake the Wii, it's too far behind.

Is 102k for VC3...bad? I recall it selling more on PS3 and PSP before but maybe that's just wishful thinking.

This week makes me really wonder why did mass effect 2 bomb so badly? Dragon Age a non-exclusive doubles the sales of ME2, the girl games outsold it but different audience there so possibly understandable.

We really ought to make to make it vibrantly clear that azlayn shipment estimates are just very good estimates, not actual shipping amounts.

so for all those not happy with TLS numbers, what were you expecting TLS to sell? This is the best opening for a Mistwalker game. First game to open above 100k.

Because the other high-profile Mistwalker games were released on such a popular console in Japan...

It isn't bad, considering 120k were shipped and if there wasn't a 2nd shipment made in the same week.

Media Create numbers for Mistwalker's previous titles (via Chris' database):

[360] Blue Dragon (Microsoft Game Studios) - 80,348 / 139,689
[360] Lost Odyssey (Microsoft Game Studios) - 54,581 / 73,606
[NDS] Blue Dragon Plus (AQ Interactive) - 21,174 / 42,693
[NDS] Blue Dragon: Awakened Shadow (Bandai Namco) - 9,572 / 21,869

Can't find entries for ASH, or Away so I have to use Famitsu:

[NDS] Away: Shuffle Dungeon (AQ Interactive) - 1,851 / 1,851

Still can't find an entry for ASH.

I heard The Last Story sold out on day one but was replenished by day 2. amazon was out of stock for a day as well, if reports were true. I did my part. I bought both Ore no Imouto and The Last Story! at the very least, this game opened a bit better than Xenoblade. Here's hoping TLS's sales will help boost Xenoblade's as well.

Solid opening for The Last Story, especially considering only 120k was shipped to stores initially.

Stronger opening than Xenoblade, Blue Dragon, and Lost Odyssey.

As a new console IP in Japan, it was never going to have a monsterous opening. Let's just hope it has decent legs. I believe White Knight Chronicles is going to be the only new JRPG IP in Japan that will have an opening week significantly ahead of it in sales.

Don't see why anyone is surprised about The Last Story's numbers. It was sold out across the country and the 2nd shipment hasn't arrived yet.

How do you sell extra copies that don't exist? All it indicates is that Nintendo should've printed more copies in time for launch.

Did it beat Baten Kaitos series and Tales of Symphonia 2 as well?

Though it seems like word of mouth on TLS is better than most of those titles, so hopefully that helps too.

Will you count Ni No Kuni PS3 as a new IP?

It probably won't debut higher than TLS, but I think it should debut higher than the DS one.

As for ASH... I tried searching for "Archanic", because I thought it was one of those loljapanesegamenames.

Last Story was sold out? I honestly wouldn't have noticed... one store even had one bundle left.
Hmmmm.... one actually lives in Japan and the other likes to post about how awesome games he never played are. I wonder who's more reliable! :)
