Well hell yes Nintendo was ending up on top when Nintendo was releasing 2 or 3 major games at launch versus the third party phenomenas of Super Swing Golf, Mr. Driller Drill Spirits, or Super Monkey Ball.
this game is easily superior to wave racer and luigis mansion (although i love both)

you sure can compare the sales of a game and the performance of a progamer

slayers boxer is currently in code S, went to RO4 in the open season 2 and is ranked among the TOP 20 in the korean ladder. compare that to his results in OSL or MSL the last 2 to 3 years. yeah its actually an improvement.

Boxer will be lucky to stay in Code S this season and is quickly falling behind IMO. He may stay in but i don't think he will be winning anything in SC2.

It doesn't matter anyway i wasn't actually trying to make an accurate comparison.

Market value for February, 2011 -- 01/31~02/27 (Famitsu):

Hardware: 17.75 billion yen (+54.7%)
Software: 22.60 billion yen (+9.8%)

Overall: 40.35 billion yen (+25.9%)

If only a new console were launched every month.

I would've liked to pick a shittier example than original Super Monkey Ball, but without a Top 500 from 2001 it was the only third party launch title that I saw when I looked for one quick-like. Only two others cracked the Top 30 that year.

that aside
dude nintendogs sold 20 million copies world wide and over a million of those came from japan

granted layton was a million seller series as well but a launch nintendo title getting outsold by a thirdparty game is pretty much unheard of and pretty crushing for nintendogs

if the game underperforms in europe then it will be pretty alarming for nintendo as nintendogs became a bigger game for them then zelda or metroid or the likes

in comparison (if that is even possible)

slayers boxer is currently in code S, went to RO4 in the open season 2 and is ranked among the TOP 20 in the korean ladder. compare that to his results in OSL or MSL the last 2 to 3 years. yeah its actually an improvement.

We'll see how everything goes. Personally I think nintendogs will do better in the long term just because it's more of a casual title and the majority of people lining up for day 1 launch are hardcore gamers. Layton has more of a crossover appeal to casual and hardcore gamers alike. Although I do think it's a good sign for 3rd parties that a 3rd party game was able to sell better than Nintendo titles at launch.

wow Wii was a launch software selling beast and huge number of launch ps3 obviously just being cheap (at the time) blu ray players

3DS software is inevitably going to stay steady for awhile. For the next 3 weeks they will be shipping probably 250K consoles a week that will get snapped up rapidly and software will sell to all those new 3DS owners.

The only really big PSP titles are Final Fantasy Type-0 and the hypothetical MHP3G.

I think Wii Play's additional remote had a lot to do with that. About half of the first week owners got it.

Considering Wii's multiplayer-centric image, thats not the least surprising. If Wii Play didn't exist, the ratio would be similiar to the other consoles and its sales would essentially turn into hardware accessories sales.

Okay haven't had time this week to go and look at major electronic stores, but 3 out of 4 of the game stores in my area have stock of 3DS, and reading retailer blogs it looks like they are not selling out in any shape or form.

Has anyone gone and checked Shibuya/Shinjuku/Akihabara about the stocks there?

I'd be worried, if it wasn't for the fact I think New School Year/graduation gifts at the end of this month and then Golden Week/EASTER should be enough to keep sales going until they get zelda and the system fully Feature- launched in June.

Wooooo sales age! It'll be REALLY interesting in the following weeks to see how well 3DS hardware and software holds. I have a feeling it won't be quite as successful as the DS...but who knows.

What he says is true though. I checked ToysRUs and a couple of other places (Geo in Nipponbashi) on the weekend and the system was readily available for retail price. It also dropped back down to retail price on Amazon from 30,000 yen last week.

You love me, you really luv me!

Stores selling copies over days instead of hours is not NINTENDO DOOM. I've been in a not so positive-looking mood lately, in the past months I've made unhappy posts regarding all 3 manufactures!

Chris reads the same Japanese blogs as I do, If I wanted to be super-negative I could be literally linking every hour to over the top NO WII GAMES, PEOPLE ARE GOING BLIND PLAYING 3ds and other nonsense stories.

Besides that,
Amazon's minor price changes I find to be incredibly interesting(You have any idea how their system works? it really amazes me to see 1% change for one day, then the price goes back up or down), besides that just reporting on what I see. The entire premise of that post was 3ds games were being sold at a premium on amazon.

I've also made happy posts, that have been misinterpreted, about games selling out at the warehouse level.

What I say is no lie, my friend, however these shops generally aren't super strong in dealing with Nintendo products to start with, that's why I want to hear about big chains supplies.

Seriously, though, this is the followup to the system that was sold out for 18 months not at launch and highest selling system ever in Japan. The initial shipment wasn't insanely large (e.g. 1m at launch for PS3 in Europe), so a lack of a sellout isn't a good thing. Will be interesting to see how it goes through Golden Week, for sure. :)

3DS stills tries to find the first killer app. Right now only AR games are the ones that differentiate the system from the rest. Golden Week will be interersting to watch but still without the big title it won't do miracles. The only dated title for then right now is Deca Sports 3D :lol and with Zelda delayed to June I don't see what the big title will be.

DS started improving its sales after training genre landed and selling like crazy after high profile Nintendo titles came out.

Should be the same for 3DS once the first StreetPass/mainstream blockbusters like animal crossing and mario kart 3ds are released...

What about high profile 3rd party titles which could sell at least 300-500K this year ?

3DS target wasn't to repeat the poor DS Japanese launch. It was meant to have a launch similar to Wii but it looks closer to DS than Wii.

This and next week's sales will show short term sales but right now investors don't look impressed with current 3DS performance.

Not suprising, the PSP right now is probably the most attractive handheld game-wise and much cheaper. StreetPass, AR Games and a couple of good games are nice but there still don`t have their triple A must have game, which not justifies the purchase of a new hardware...but also at that price point.

btw. are you talkin about nintendo investers ? Even if it just sells as much, they are ranking a lot more money at that hardware price...but at the end its about the software, so 2nd week figures should be interesting.....

So will Nintendo's strategic decision to launch the 3DS with no key first-party titles beyond Nintendogs (hardly a system-seller at this point) to benefit third parties be an issue for them in the short-term, then?

It's a shite situation for them - launch hard with major first-party support and give the machine an explosive start, and third parties are shut out and you cause issues further down the line. Launch soft and let third parties take the limelight and you risk slow uptake of hardware because the titles they're bringing aren't in the same league, or aren't demonstrating why people need this new console.

Does anyone have any idea about why the psp is still sold out?

It's selling decent numbers each week in Japan but nothing outrageous. It's been two months and Sony can't get enough units to mantain the weekly stock.

Did they sell most of the factories or what? Because outside of Japan psp is tanking and those factories surely are not making NGP consoles yet.

They probably don't see it big enough to change their production capacity, as in the effort to change its actual, lets say, 300k a month into a 600k a month for one month is way too much effort.

That, and stupidity. Lots of it.
