Assuming there won't be delays

Sega tweeted on Friday that the earthquake wouldn't have an impact on RGG Of the End's release, but we'll see. A lot has happened since businesses were open on Friday.

I don't think games will be delayed, but I do think we'll see lower sales than usual because of the difficulty in getting around, due to train disruptions and rolling blackouts. The impact on Tokyo especially will probably be pretty bad, since a large percentage of sales generally come from the main cities.

The earthquake didn't stop many people from buying 3DS systems at Yodobashi Yokohama yesterday. Clearly people want something to play when the power goes out... For 3 hours. :p

Are you saying the power will be out for 3 hours or is that the 3DS' battery life?

This is possibly inappropriate but since we discussing effects, it is Media create's threads way to compare past data.

Heh, I don't know where to put this, but I just found out that in 2003, Nintendo released a first-party game on a SEGA console in Japan. I won't say which console or what the game is, I'll leave that as a challenge to the readers. Nifty piece of trivia, though.

I don't suppose you're referring to F-Zero AX and that it was developed on Sega's arcade board, do you =P?

It would actually make sense if they release two completely different MHP games for each platform to test how viable it is. Since cross-platform play is out of the question, it would be most effective to do it in a way where they can see if gamers are happy to play a MHP game on any portable platform, as long as they can play with their friends.
This is what I was thinking would be the wisest decision for Capcom. Releasing two seperate games with similar gameplay mechanics. Have the NGP Monster Hunter play to the strengths of 3G and added horsepower. While the 3DS Monster Hunters plays to the strengths of Streepass, and 3D.

I'm not sure even Capcom knows why they put games on certain platforms. Sometimes I think they have a well stocked fridge full of saki and a huge dartboard.
Seriously. Lets release 3 mainline RE games on Playstation platforms. Then lets do a spinoff on a Sega console and then anounce 3 exclusive mainline RE games for a Nintendo console. Finally we'll announce the next mainline game on the 360. I don't think franchise exclusivity or brand loyalty matters at all to Capcom and they really seem to just sporadically release a lot of their franchise However they are feeling that day.

Pokemon Advanced Generation for Pico. :p

I think it was a joint effort between Amusement Vision and Nintendo, though don't quote me on that. I only know that it's a Nintendo game that was released in 2003 that had development on Sega hardware.

Edit-
nm, poster above me was right. I had never even heard of the Pico.

You clearly have no clue what a Pico is.

:(

according to Azlyn Motor Storm 3 is delayed due to reasons "that could only be thought of due to regards to the earthquake" A.K.A. the game had already been shipped out, not a supplier issue.

should we not see these things in next week's sales since the results posted this week are from last week?

Only Friday Saturday and Sunday was affected with maybe no sales last week?

Three mainline RE games = PlayStation releases, all on the king of that generation. Even then, they ported RE to other systems, RE2 got an N64 version etc.

Spinoff on Dreamcast = Capcom hedging their bets. The PS2 wasn't out yet, and it was a reasonable move to put a non-numbered title on the first next-gen system out (and it eventually made it back to that gen's king, anyway.

Three exclusive games for GC = the most important (i.e. numbered) one made it to the PS2, anyway, but there was obviously a moneyhat of sorts here.

The pattern with RE seems to be that that gen's "winner" gets the numbered, mainline games, either exclusively or with definitive/expanded editions, while they release mainly subtitled spin-offs, ports and remakes on the other platforms. This gen was a bit of an oddity in that - in terms of hardware sales - the Wii was the "winner" and got a number of original titles and remakes, but the pattern still holds up with the HD twins getting the mainline game:

PS = RE/RE:DC/RE:Dual Shock, RE2, RE3, RE: Survivor
Saturn: RE
N64: RE2

PS2 = RE:CVX, RE4, RE:Outbreak/Outbreak File 2, RE: Survivor 2, RE: Dead Aim
DC = RE:CV
GC = RE4, REMake, RE Zero, RE2, RE3, RE:CVX
Xbox = nothing

PS3/360 = RE5/RE5 Gold
Wii = RE4Wii, RE:UC, RE:DSC, REMake Wii, RE Zero Wii
DS = RE:DS

The next step for the franchise will be interesting, as it seems that RE6 is in development either for the HD twins or perhaps for a next-gen system, but RE: Revelations is being referred to as a mainline game. I'd guess that Revelations will be more like Code Veronica than RE4, but we'll see what happens.

Capcom and exclusivity = BIG LOL
I agree, but it's not like "no more exclusives ROFL".

Resident Evil Zero, Remake, Chronicles, Zack & Wiki,
Spyborgs
... those titles are still exclusive, and Monster Hunter Tri too, to some degree.

REZero/REmake - I'll be surprised if they don't get ported beyond GCN and Wii, but for now, they're exclusive to Nintendo consoles.
Chronicles - Surprised a Move port hasn't been announced, yet. Move doing just that bad to not get easy Wii ports?
Zack & Wiki - bomb. Not worth porting. Still terrible name.
Spyborgs - bigger bomb.

Monster Hunter Tri - had Nintendo "help" somewhere along the way.

PS = RE/RE:DC/RE:Dual Shock, RE2, RE3, RE: Survivor
Saturn: RE
N64: RE2

PS2 = RE:CVX, RE4, RE:Outbreak/Outbreak File 2, RE: Survivor 2, RE: Dead Aim
DC = RE:CV
GC = RE4, REMake, RE Zero, RE2, RE3, RE:CVX
Xbox = nothing

PS3/360 = RE5/RE5 Gold
Wii = RE4Wii, RE:UC, RE:DSC, REMake Wii, RE Zero Wii
DS = RE:DS

I'm aware that a lot of these got ported but I'm just saying at the initial time of anouncement and where the definitive version of the game was launched were a bit odd and all over the place. I agree Revelations will be a CV or Peace Walker esque entry. I was simply making a point that Capcom somewhat arbitrarily puts franchises on different consoles/platforms. For example Monster Hunter Tri going somewhat exclusively to Wii. The Street Fighter franchise has gone a couple different places same with Megaman. Yes they more heavily support the leading console but they do anounce a lot of exclusive titles to the underdogs as well ie Dreamcast, Gamecube, PSP and whomever you consider the underdog this gen for consoles.

I was mainly pointing out that there isn't really any way to predict which platform goes from here because they don't seem to have any allegiance to any platform holders and will release great games quality and sales wise to any platform holder.

According to retailer's blogs , both Steel Diver and Ryu were in stock at many stores, which all received faxs to send the merchandise back.

I don't really understand what the problem is with Steel Diver.

Different News:

http://www.famitsu.com/news/201103/15041469.html

Take 2 have indefinitely delayed both Top Spin 2(April .7th planned release date) and Major League Baseball 2K11(April 14th) due to it being unclear whatever or not they will be able to produce and distribute the games on time.

Well, it is a submarine game.

Maybe there's a mission about generating waves to destroy an enemy port?

Wow, so seeing delays all the way through April 14th games already. I get the feeling SRW Z2 (the next big 400k+ seller on the charts) and Persona 2 IS, both scheduled for 4/14 may be delayed due to production/distrobution issues. Especially Z2 since for the initial shipment they're going to have to press like 300-500k copies.

Maybe a very late discovery of a game-breaking bug?!

This, or some content-related material deemed inappropriate due to the tragic events of the earthquake.

So what's the deal with 3DS sales? Supply problems? 600k in two weeks seems a little low but maybe my expectations are off. How much was everyone predicting prior to launch?

This seems most likely to me. I hope that it doesn't affect the US release (but I'm not getting my hopes up)
