Thanks very much hiska-kun.

It's quite surprising that GTA V has done so well in Japan. Even the PS4 version is selling well relative to install base and the PS3 version is one of the best selling PS3 games of all time.

Then again it has been a phenomenon worldwide with more than 40m sold .

How it's doing comparing to other GTA games

Hmm... the drop slowed down last year... actually expected it to remain the same as the past few years. Let's see how it'll go in 2015 (answer: still dropping).

Edit: holy hell, the gen drop for handhelds is... yuck. Wow.

Shifting market. Nintendo hasn't been generating near the same number of titles for the 3DS as they usually do for handhelds (since they are trying to prop up the WiiU a... bit), and you can bet that a lack of Nintendo titles is hurting overall software sales by several millions. Etc.

One thing that I feel we're also overlooking is that the fact that the Vita is a hardware deadzone compared to its predecessor even with the 3DS performing admirably, you're still lacking several tens of millions of cross-buy sales because there's simply nothing to be had in owning two handhelds given the software disparity in count and genres between the systems. Before, when we had the PSP/DS, we had many people who would have owned two systems for the sake of getting everything with some killer titles on one system and others (+Nintendo titles) on the other. But with the Vita/3DS scenario just about every killer title is on the 3DS (+Nintendo titles) and only particular niches or derivatives are on the Vita.

Also the death of the AA market isn't helping the software numbers...

N IPs not going to mobile, but Id say that probably went to Gung ho for PZ and than Gung ho proposed also the crossover. somehow this could be the way to see partnerships in both direction. also because everyone could benefit from N IPs popularity and those developers are not hw manufacturers

I already posted this above, but Gungho started this after the success of P&DZ. Mario Edition only happened after P&DZ's reelase. (I've requoted my post below).

Btw, it seems like Gung-ho actually approached Nintendo about the P&D Mario Edition after P&DZ did sold 1M by the beginning of 2014. I had assumed it was the other way around until now.

From gonintendo (http://www.gonintendo.com/s/244935-...er-mario-edition-more-gameplay-details-shared)

Morishita: We contacted Nintendo with New Year’s 2014 greetings as we reported that Puzzle & Dragons Z had sold one million copies. We said, “we’d like to do more Puzzle & Dragons spin-offs” to president Iwata and Mr. Miyamoto. From there on, we tried to create the Mario version in-house at GungHo as we thought, “wouldn’t it be better to show Nintendo?” Then discussions with Nintendo progressed again.

Yamamoto: We showed a prototype to Nintendo several months after contacting them for the first time.

Morishita: From there, we rebuilt the game anew by combining the action of Puzzle & Dragons and the world and stages of Super Mario Bros.

Wait, but where's MK8? Doesn't that basically predict how much the Wii U sold?
Unless it wasn't there last week either so it's not indicative.

Tsutaya's Ranking doesn't include bundles.
Mario Kart 8 was on the 20 spot last week (game standalone). This week fell behind Captain Toad.

As a curiosity, the initial release of Ys Origin sold 28.298 units in its first 3 months of sale.

Code:
Dec 06 - 21.961 / NEW
Jan 07 - 5.252 / 27.213
Feb 07 - 1.084 / 28.298

The Windows Vista version which was released in March 07 didn't chart inside the monthly top 20.

LoL seems to be on a noticeably higher level in both effort and marketing compared to Lost Dimension. It's not going to crash (that hard).

Bombing is kind of a nebulous concept without defined numbers so I decided to dig a bit.

Looking at the last thread, the four people who predicted expected about 50K for the first four days (that's weeks one and two I think or just week one?).

Mpl90: [3DS] Legend of Legacy (4 days) - 49,633
XDDX: [3DS] Legend of Legacy (4 days) - 55,000
Road: [3DS] Legend of Legacy (4 days) - 44,444
hiska-kun: [3DS] Legend of Legacy (4 days) - 56,987

I'd say compared to that... maybe 30-35K would be poor?

Yes, quantity > quality.

I'd say that PS2 figure is more impressive considering the jump in game development and yet the output almost matched the previous generation.

Well 50K would be double Unchained Blades' and Exstetra's debut and tenfold Lost Dimension's debut. I think it would be over Cardfight Vanguard's debut but I'm not certain on that.

Legend of Legacy seems to be getting a bigger push but then it depends to what degree it's expected to be their best seller.

I could swear I had posted November results already, but I can't find them on my post history....

There were also predictions in the week 51 thread, which may be above or below those numbers. I haven't calculated the average yet.

Need someone to confirm this, but... from the looks of it, the reason Capcom revised its sales forecast for FY2014-15 is because of Gaist Crusher.... geeeeeeeee, who would've known?! I, for one, am shocked.

Now changing forecast for Monster Hunter 4G though.

Edit: damn, forgot to post the link... have to find it, sorry. It's on the official investor website.

Gaist Crusher God? Follow up to the ultra-successful Gaist Crusher?

That's pretty difficult to believe.

For Legend of Legacy, word of mouth is gonna play a big role... so FuRyu better make sure they don't ship the game with a game breaking glitch or anything.

This game got some potential... it's not gonna be a Bravely Default 2 sales-wise, but 50k LTD should be easily achieved if the game's great and get good word of mouth.

The Legend of Legacy has been positioning in the Top 5 of Amazon best-sellers since a week or so. It might not mean a lot but for a new niche IP releasing in more than one week is not too bad.

cw_sasuke

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
50k Ltd would be very disappointing. First week sales might be that high though.

FuRyu's best-selling games (Famitsu):

  1. [3DS] Cardfight!! Vanguard: Ride to Victory!! - 70,029
  2. [3DS] Doraemon: Nobita to Kiseki no Shima - Animal Adventure - 54,178
  3. [3DS] Doraemon: Nobita no Himitsu Dougu Museum - 51,289
  4. [3DS] Cardfight!! Vanguard: Lock on Victory!! - 44,349
  5. [PSP] Unchained Blades - 38,031

Bonus: last known LTD for Lost Dimension is 2,246 on PS3 and 3,885 on PSV.

This should keep expectations for Legend of Legacy in check.

You know things are stale when we have been spending so much time talking about a Furyu game lol!

I'm still expecting the game to be shit, get bad word of mouth and flop (<50k ltd) btw.

I hope the opposite, because it seems a nice attempt to create a new IP in the jRPG genre which doesn't pander to the otaku audience.

I don't think anyone is actually interested in it because it's a FuRyu game. It could be any small publisher with a poor reputation and sales, rather it's the staff actually involved and that it looks pretty neat. It'll be wonderful (for the Japan console gaming market even) if it turns out to be a good game and gets good or at least good enough sales.

Some leaks from JP magazines

- Cross Ange (PSV) - Action game based on the "hit" anime
- Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2015 (PSV/PS3) - Best baseball game won't come out on PS4 this year, lol
- Funassyi vs. Dragons / Funassyi no Yukai-na Ohanassyi (3DS) - Puzzle and sidescroller games

Looks like there is also a STG for a playstation hardware (Astebreed? Ubusuna?)

Looks like a boring issue this week.

1) no comment (haven't watched the show)
2) Konami gonna Konami. I guess Kojima doesn't want them to whore out his precious engine for another sports game :p
3) brb, gonna page BriBri ;)

is ToZestoria showing how bad was the decision to put it only on PS3, or ToX somehow "burned" the franchise? I mean, the gap in terms of Comgnet preorder is astonishing

Don't put too much faith in comgnet, even within the same series (remember Etrian Odyssey Untold 2, which had more pre-orders yet got underwhelming sales). A drop isn't unexpected, but Bamco probably don't care, they have a port lined-up for the holidays (not confirmed obviously, but come on... you know it's going to happen. Pre-TGS announcement, most likely).

Anyway, 6.5 billion Yens for the Youkai Watch movie, #82 highest grossing film ever in Japan.

It was actually a very smart decision.

Please be excited for Zestiria PS4 in about 6 months.

EOU2 was hurt by the EOV and EOMD announcement, don't blame Comg.

The 3DS games are odd. The Dragon one is seemingly a puzzle RPG by Rocket Company. The other is some fairy tail thing by Success, but both star this thing maybe?

Legend of Legacy doesn't seem like a game that can sell well enough. A 50k LTD should be good enough for it. Of course, I'd love to be proven wrong and see it selling more than that. The game looks pretty good and the staff that is developing it is definitely talented.

It would be a shame if Zesteria sales are low and the game is good.

I think God Eater 2: Rage Burst looks pretty decent based on these numbers. Although the PS4 is painting a whole different picture. A Monster Hunter/God Eater on a console won't sell any close to a handheld release.
