Media Create Sales: Week 09, 2011 (Feb 28 - Mar 6)

First sub-10k week for Wii? Most things look like they took a knock this week, but I don't know how much current events will have affected things - next week will tell, I suppose.

Layton and Nintendogs obviously still the games-to-get, and 3DS attach is still around 1 based on the sales in the chart here...

Wii under 10K. Down 300K from last year to date. Wow.

I just want to note from reading of retailer blogs, they typically expect more of Nintendo products during the weekend, sony hardware/software on launch day. Thus you could make a case that this week shows Nintendo being effected(and boy is it not a good outlook for 3ds) by the earthquake and next week we can see sony's camp.

Yeah, I'm sure the multiple titles they said they're working on for Wii will do nothing to boost its sales. Also, they should kill it now since Japan dictates the world, word. Was the PS3 also dead when it did similarly low numbers? Guess it got resurrected ey? Sheesh, some people, like it's the first Wii dry spell every time...

This is a MediaCreate thread meaning a discussion of the market in Japan. You don't see us asking why the 360 is cancerous to selling games when it is a success in the US, or bringing up its complete failure in Japan in the NPD threads. It's not relevant to the topic.

We don't know why he keeps buying PAL, either.

Actually... it seems the PS3 went up significantly.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
And yet people are convinced Nintendo isn't releasing their next console within the next 2 years. Crazy.

Why so touchy? It's like one sentence out of all my post that refers to a market beyond Japan and it's only there due to definitive-sounding remarks like "wraps it up". No console is "wrapped up" just because of one territory or one period so I simply pointed out the obvious, no harm meant.

Unless you think I was referring to Reggie's comments about games coming. I'm pretty sure Iwata or Miyamoto said the same things before Reggie. They just have yet to announce what it is, save for that one Pandora title. Which is in line with how they've been all this gen.

The earthquake and the nuclear plant disaster suck. It's hard to enjoy sales data when the country is in its biggest crisis.

Nintendo has ignored the Wii for months on end now. They have some vague TBA games listed. I wonder how long it takes before retailers worldwide start to pull Wii products from the shelves to make room for the new 3DS.

Third Week:

NDS - 221,625 (Dec 13 - Dec 19)
WII - 108,237 (Dec 11 - Dec 17)
PSP - 107,217 (Dec 20 - Dec 26)
3DS - 96.463 (Mar 7 - Mar 13)
PS3 - ~35,000? (Nov 20 - Nov 26)

I think.

We should consider the effects of the earthquake and the non-holiday season. The 3DS had a great second week.

Very nice showing for DW7. How does that fare against DW6's launch?

Anyone know what DW7 got in Famitsu? I miss Famitsu threads. ;_;

Wii sales both SW and HW do not bode well. Do people really think Nintendo can carry on this system for another 2 years (as in not release WIi 2 untill 2012) off the backs of only a couple of 1st party games and a few 3rd party games??

I said Nintendo should have announced Wii2 last E3 and released this Holiday season. They are obviously going to make Skyward Sword their Holiday release but it would be another TP in the case of too little too late. And even then what do they have for the entire year of 2012??

Hopefully like TP, they also simultaneously release Skyward Sword on their next console as well, with HD graphics and other perks.

Edit: I'm sure SquareEnix is in no rush to out DQX on a system that is obviously on it's way down in Japan. People have moved onto the HD twins and 3DS

Edit2: I realize the recent events in Japan affect sales, but they obviously didn't hurt the other software/hardware as much.

Erm, they've not even announced what they have for 2011, where's the logic in asking that? At least wait for each year's E3, not that they've never announced stuff after.

It's been reconfirmed for Wii at least twice over, one of them very recently despite people randomly claiming your point years now. False until proven otherwise.

Exactly, after you release your biggest Zelda game what else is there?? They've already done all of their major franchises, even doing Mario and Kirby twice. What else is there? Esp now that 3rd parties have all but abandoned? Support is dried up. You can't carry a console for 2 years by yourself. Interest and sales will steadily dry up

They kept the cube for years by themselves. And again, why keep asking lists for 2 years later when Nintendo rarely told us what was scheduled for 6 months later previously? They don't announce stuff until they're ready and that's all there is to this. They said software is coming outside the already announced stuff like Pandora's Tower, Kirby and Zelda. If you believe that to be a blatant lie then even if they had announced specifics you could claim that's a lie also and they're actually Wii2 titles...

This is just pointless.

In Japan, I'd say they've been ignoring it longer. Its DEAD except for holiday weekends, basically.

I think we'll have to wait at least a couple of months to get a fair indication of how hardware and software is doing in Japan. The earthquake is likely going to throw numbers off to hell and back for quite a while.

It would be incredibly stupid to release Wii 2 in 2011. They still have more games coming (oh, and keep ignoring the fact that DQ's creator already said they gave more Wii DQ game(s) coming...), they can pull more price cuts (seriously the Wii has only had one single $50 price cut), bundles, etc. That and the fact that third parties are still intent on making games for the current HD consoles.

It's kinda screwed in Japan, but believe it or not, Japan isn't the only gaming market out there.

They kept the cube for years by themselves. And again, how do you keep asking people to make up game lists for 2 years later when Nintendo never even told us what was scheduled for 6 months later? They don't announce stuff until they're ready and that's all there is to it. They said software is coming, if you believe that to be a blatant lie then even if they had announced specifics that could be a lie also so really there's no reason to ask.

Do you really think they want another "Cube" situation on their hand?? They don't want to go out with a whimper. They need to keep some kind of momentum or they may lose everything they worked so hard to accomplish this generation.

Why do you think they haven't announced anything for this year other than Zelda? You think it's because they are wanting to surprise us and blow us away with all the insanely awesome Wii games that will pump new life and interest into it, right?

I'm sure software is coming, in fact they already said they will bring over some recently Japan exclusive titles, but do you really think that will do anything for stagnant sales in the US? and what about in Japan where those games have already been released? It's not like Nintendo to have nothing new announced for the year with almost 3 full months into it. Other than a game that was announced almost a year and a half ago.

How would it be a cube situation with this difference in install base and software sales?

They have annouced more titles (Pandora's Tower is also set for this year, maybe Kirby also), and have explicitely stated more unannounced titles are coming. I'm not making it up. Again, if you believe it to be a blatant lie is a different matter.

As for why they haven't announced even more, it's because that's how they do shit. How long was DKCR announced be4 release? Excitebots? Punch-Out!!? Hello?

Those "stagnant sales" in the US are on par with the other platforms.

I think I'm done here, I don't wanna get frustrated and end up banned. Off to happy threads...

Nintendo already announced Pokemon/Kirby/Pandora's Tower besides Zelda...and obviously more will come. The same as what happened last year at E3. Are you choosing to be ignorant or what?

And what stagnant US sales? 454k in US last month is stagnant?

If one only paid attention to the big gaming sites and what certain publishers and analyst say about Nintendo or don't say I think that might be the impression you get.

Everything is down by 20 - 60%, mostly likely due, as others have suggested, to the crisis. This was all pretty much expected. I feel a little bad for Nintendo, as they've probably lost quite a bit of momentum due to peoples' focus being taken away from their new platform.

PS3 is indeed up, as a big-seller and new system colour were released the day prior. But really, PS3 sales could have been far stronger.

We'll likely see continued down sales into the next week due to people stocking up on supplies in major cities (over buying entertainment), staying indoors, and a variety of other factors.
