This was announced for North America, and Europe a few months ago. It's interesting to see that it's developed by Delta-Arts, the studio behind the recent Medabots RPGs.
Gosh. I had no idea it was announced for NA/EU already!

Systems do not maintain yearly sales over the course of their lifetime. They peak and decay.

Doesn't the PS3 act as a great counterpoint to that statement? It never sold too much in any given year, but it sold pretty consistently (1-1.5m) until this past year.

How I see it.

WiiU will get to 2.8 million this year. Around 3.5 million by the end of next year. 4 million LTD.

4 million LTD is disastrous.

The GC sold 4m in Japan and the Wii U is easily trailing that at the moment in Japan. Keep in mind I think Wii U sales might be still ahead of the PS3's sales (at the very least the PS3 was behind the GC's initial sales). Kind of a silly statement, since that's not more disastrous than it's selling now.

Also, you're expecting 1.3m units sold this year? I think that's even better than every GC year and honestly close to the PS3's best sales years in Japan. If it hits 2.8m units this year, it's very possible it'll pass 4m. Do you really think that if the Wii U got momentum like that (1.3m units with nearly 1 million units selling in 6 months after MK8's release), that no one would develop for it? I would assume some new software would start selling for it along with the increased HW sales. Considering how barren the PS4 release schedule is, at the very least they could consider releasing cross-plat PS3 games on the Wii U. I hate to say it, but your near term number for the Wii U is too optimistic (you'd have to have average sales of 38K per week for 6 months and no one decides to develop for the Wii U after that).

Originally for Yaiba, but both should make it.

DmC sold 100k first week, I think Yaiba will get there eventually.

According to Famitsu, no modern Ninja Gaiden game has sold 100k in Japan. The best selling entry is Ninja Gaiden Sigma on PS3 at 75k. A Spark Unlimited spinoff has no chance.

What is that red sticker they put to every video game cover?
It's there so that when you peel it off there will be some residue just to troll you.

I got no clue but I hate it when stores do that. Please leave my game cases alone.

By not launching near the holidays?

Sony doesn't benefit from holidays spending like Nintendo does. They get a big boost at New Years, but that's it. It would have sold like this no matter when it launched if there's no games people would like to play accompanying it.

That's just an empty box. The sticker says if you wish to purchase this, then take the empty box up to the cash register. They'll hand you a new sealed copy at that time.

The only stickers that will be on there are the ones put on by the manufacturer.

Eh. Yes they do? Just not to same extend as Nintendo but still there are notable increases in sales of PS systems during the holiday months.

Haha, now I feel silly for overreacting.

How did the original Waifu + 3DS sell LTD?
200k I think it was? It had a good first week but then a massive drop off due to the bugs.

edit: looks like it might have even made 150k, 113k by second week selling 8k, yer it was a crazy drop. Let's hope those first week 100k sales by the hardcore fans aren't turned off by the game's bugs.

I think the lack of releases in general lately will give the game a bit of an edge, I'll probably be wrong but oh well.

Ah I see, so that's only placeholder copy for display.

No need to feel silly about it. I fucking hated it too when they put the stickers on the surface of the case or cover of the book instead of the plastic wrap. That residue drives me crazy.

But the WiiU does benefit from Christmas. If the U didn't launched on February it would have sold a little worse, maybe even matching PS4 numbers. Not saying you're wrong.

I love when games / books / films / whatever have a thin plasting wrapping its case. They can put as many stuff as they want on the plastic, but my cover will still be in good state.

I hated too the 360 games that came with a sticker that needed to be broken before opening the case. I don't remember if they are still using it or if it was in all games. I just remember I didn't like it.

I don't think anybody needs to feel silly about it either :)

I hope the blog with first day sellthrough isn't the next victim of leaks.

It's been some time since it was last updated.

The Gamecube was competing with the might of the PS2. The Wii U has a modest PS4 to compete with. Whether it can get to 2.8M would depend on the impact of Mario Kart and Smash which is kind of an unknown. I think it should be able to get to around 4-5M over the next 3-4 years.

What Phantasy Star is that? Certainly can't be Nova. Is it a re-release of Online 2?

NVM, seems it's Episode 2 from Hiska-kun's post. Cool.

Huh, just noticed Mario 3D World is #21 in Media Create (likely around 4000) but does not appear at all in Famitsu top30 (where #30 is roughly at 3000). Ordinary statistical noise/error or what?

Only Dengeki provides numbers for the top 50

http://dengekionline.com/elem/000/000/825/825451/

Zelda: A Link Between Worlds - 1,938 / 372,430

Sometimes we get updated numbers for the top50 once a month when the retail+digital numbers come through (FAMITSU) iirc? ALBW passed 380k a while ago, Dengeki doesn't include digital downloads (I believe they do count DL cards tho), and I need the full LTD (also all my other numbers are from Famitsu Enterbrain)

Dengeki shows Hatsune Miku and Future Stars: Project Mirai 2 (3DS) is now at 198,871, next week it'll pass 200k, as it did 1,800 last week! Famitsu last had reported it on Dec 29th at... 134k. Wow. The original was last reported on Famitsu at 180k.
