Next week will be pretty interesting for Switch, since April is a slow month and there's no real release until April 20th, so...

Mario Sports Superstars did... okay-ish. Less than Mario Golf, though, but I guess my expectations for it were low.

Meh. I think that result is showing it's about time for Gust to drop Vita. Between this and Atelier Firis it's not really pulling its weight in multi-plat sales anymore (likely down to the fact that the audience is finally tired of poor-quality ports).

But otherwise, pretty crappy week for everything huh? Musou Stars slightly better than the bomba games like Arslan and Berserk but not by much; Blue Reflection just about hanging on to decent FW sales but nowhere close to Nights of Azure (or Atelier at its peak) and Mario Sports will probably have legs but it's still not great.

Meh.

Ho-hum week. Switch holding at the sweet spot of 40-50k per week. If it can maintain that, it'll be in good shape.

Zelda and XX chugging along.

Some increases due to Spring holidays. Next week school back and graduate students start to work for the first time, big drops should be expected.

Switch is still in the phase "selling out what's shipped", given the availability status over online stores.

Dat PS4 does not want to give up on that 30K baseline :)

I was expecting something worse for Musô Stars after KT said the game was underperforming. I guess they really thought that just putting Kasumi, Sophie and some furries in the same game was going to bring back the musô IP around 200K ?

More importantly, Horizon and Nier have their 200K and 300K locked at retail, something I'm quite happy with.

Well my understanding was that Mario Golf was actually a pretty good game whereas Mario Sports Superstars is pretty mediocre.

Good baseline for PS4. 3DS still quite attractive at its age. Good for the Switch too to continue its momentum. Things are OK in Japan and that's good to see entering Q2 of 2017.

Several people say this is a good baseline for PS4, but it is the same level as last year, right? Isn't it likely going to fall below 30K next week due to the slow sales period?

Breath of the Wild has great legs.

Not related but I really hope Splatoon gets released early in Summer, beginning of August at worst, end of June at best, but not counting on it.

The initial video they released looked okay but the footage I've seen since looks pretty downgraded (water in particular is hilarious) and not running pretty well (battles are like 20fps).

It's not as bad as Nights of Azure but yeah... Vita porting was never Gust's strong point.

It has been selling at a higher rate than it did last year, it'll be interesting to see if it can maintain that considering it has a thinner release slate for the rest of the year besides Dragon Quest XI.

I almost want to feel bad for Subaru but he's a piece of crap and I can't bring myself to do it. I'll just go over and console Rem, who deserves better sales for being best girl by a country mile...

Do we have any historical numbers we could reasonably interpret as "how many sales were made before there were units readily available" (i.e "what was the size of the initial demand")? We can't ever really judge how Switch is doing in the grand scheme of things until we reach the point where the initial demand has been met and units start lasting on shelves for more than five minutes!

I guess we'd have to cross-reference it with anecdotal evidence in the launch threads? ISTR both Vita and Wii U had plenty of stock at launch so they sold brilliantly in the first week but after that point fell away fairly significantly; I don't recall talk about how supply constrained the PS4 was at first.

What we can say for now is that it's healthy that Switch appears not to be at that point yet, but we can't really use the figures as a comparison without that metric.

We can't ever really judge how Switch is doing in the grand scheme of things until we reach the point where the initial demand has been met and units start lasting on shelves for more than five minutes!

I guess we'd have to cross-reference it with anecdotal evidence in the launch threads? ISTR both Vita and Wii U had plenty of stock at launch so they sold brilliantly in the first week but after that point fell away fairly significantly; I don't recall talk about how supply constrained the PS4 was at first.

What we can say for now is that it's healthy that Switch appears not to be at that point yet, but we can't really use the figures as a comparison without that metric.

Probably the original Wii would work for this? You'll see how its sales were kind of crazy in March 2007 (like 77K -> 100K+ -> higher or something)

I mean, there's nothing inherently awful about it like Nights of Azure's terrible models and jaggies, but framerate is inconsistent throughout; graphics are clearly downgraded to hell and back in certain areas (check ground textures in battle) and things like water in the bath scene are literally hilarious PS1-era stuff.

It's just a matter of seeing if Switch and Zelda/1 2 Switch continue to sell based on the shipments Nintendo makes next three weeks. Personally I expected a larger shipment for Japan the first month based on the initial 2 million figure that was touted. Not sure what exactly Nintendo meant by 2 million at launch unless a lot more was shipped in the US and the rest of the World compared to Japan. Personally I had though they would mirror the 3DS launch due to the stronger launch lineup and form factor.
It's possible Nintendo aren't shipping the additionally produced units until MK8D drops so Switch would be around 750k prior to the launch and clear a million with the release of MK8D.

What would be interesting to watch how large of a boost Zelda, 1/2 Switch and other Switch games get with MK8D's launch. It's going to be the first major shipment since the launch.
Also don't be surprised if they announce another Global Testfire for Splatoon in either April or May.

If it's like in France, Switch is not even put on shelves, people have to reserve it and 3 weeks later, get it straight to the supply desk. This is at least how it goes at La Fnac des Ternes.

Didn't people extrapolate that the Switch had 1.5m sales at launch worldwide. This meant that for the remainder of March there was a minimum of 500k to go round and Japan got around 200k for the rest of the month, so 300k for the ROW at minimum for the rest of March. That's not a lot to go round tbh.

This doesn't factor in to the "increased production" that people mentioned prior to launch though.
