I think sales could've been higher, but I also don't think it'd be that much higher.
Just like Samuari Warriors 3 would've done significantly worse if it was also released on PS3 (as evidenced by Z/Moushiden).

Isn't Samurai Warriors more popular traditionally than Sengoku Basara? How does SW3/Z compare to SB3?

SB3+SB3:Utage (Wii/PS3)= ~700k
SW3+SW3:Z (Wii and later PS3/Wii)= ~660k

Basara 4 not being on Vita seemed like Capcom being Capcom and thinking there's only 1 handheld on the market. We all know there's going to be a SB4 Utage/Super/Whatever release. Will they choose Vita, PS4, or even Wii U to compliment the PS3 release? Only they know.

The PSP games sold pretty well, as far as the Basara series goes. Even if they didn't make a Vita port, you'd think they'd make a cheap handheld version.

[3DS] Style Savvy: Trendsetters - Tokimeki Up! <ETC> (Nintendo) (¥4.936) - 30k

I just did a little bit of looking back over the last few months of data, and Taiko Wii U has actually stuck around and no one's noticed.

Have a look:

Famitsu (this one being the last time we got numbers for it):

Week 4, 2014 30./23. [WIU] Taiko no Tatsujin: Wii U Version! # <ACT> (Bandai Namco Games) {2013.11.21} (¥5.480) - 2.979 / 130.673 <60-80%> (-29%)

Week 4, 2014 34./27. [WIU] Taiko no Tatsujin: Wii U Version! # <ACT> (Bandai Namco Games) {2013.11.21} (¥5.480)
Week 5, 2014 38./34. [WIU] Taiko no Tatsujin: Wii U Version! # <ACT> (Bandai Namco Games) {2013.11.21} (¥5.480)

Week 12, 2014 50./00. [WIU] Taiko no Tatsujin: Wii U Version! # <ACT> (Bandai Namco Games) {2013.11.21} (¥5.480)

So Taiko Wii U has actually stuck around above and seemingly just below the Top 50.

A LTD update would be very interesting to see.

PS4 numbers are a big worry. This indicates a larger change in the home console space in Japan than just the PS4 lacking releases. The PS3 never got this low despite a bad release line up.

Sure it did. PS3 just was released during holidays so it took some time before it started to hit these numbers. In April 2007 PS3 was already doing sub 15k numbers.

before worrying about PS4, we should wait and see how it will perform when games will come

actually the userbase wants game, a 2,000yen demo sold over 100k, Natural Doctrine did the best on PS4 (500k PS4 vs. 2,5M PSV vs. 9M PS3)

if there are a couple of games released every week and sales are always less than 15k,so we can start to be worried

It's fine to say "There's no games yet, it'll be interesting to see how it performs when games do come" - and I agree, it will improve immensely when notable titles are released - but it's important to consider the reasons that there isn't currently a steady stream of content for the system. Is it just nervousness about jumping in, or are there more pervasive reasons that aren't simply going to go away over time?

What games?

Well, shit.

The same thing was said with the 3DS, vita and wii U. There is a reason we seem to have to play this waiting game with every new console that launches, there are simply less games being made for them.

PS4 may turn things around but the slow start all these consoles are having and the barren software line-ups are a pretty ominous sign for the market.

Well 3DS did much better than its first year indicated,ps vita is doing much better than anyone would have thought during its first year and PS3 did much better than anyone would of guessed in its first year.

All of those 3 systems got more third party releases (obviously thats not the only reason) that resulted in their fates being altered.

The only system thats easy to predict is the WiiU and thats because if its piss poor third party support.

I think third parties expect a slow PS4 start in Japan of course. That much was obvious from its release schedule.

I think it would be even better if we just wait until there will be released a million-seller every second week before anyone is allowed to say PS4 is doing fine or not in Japan.

I honestly don´t think a bad selling niche title like Natural Doctrine, that sold very little on any system is a good example for anything.

The 3DS, vita, wii U and PS3 all saw absolutely massive declines from their predecessors (not that i mentioned the PS3). That's not really the point i was making. I'm not sure where the PS4 will end up. I'm just saying there is a reason why with every single new piece of HW that gets released in Japan we keep getting the 'just wait for the software to arrive'. There is simply less software being made because the market is in a huge decline.

I don't think the PS4 is seeing less releases because 3rd parties expected a slower start (the slower start happened because 3rd parties weren't there). It's just a reflection of the market reality. Devs are moving from home consoles to handhelds but even moreso they're leaving both in favor of mobile gaming.

I'm not trying to predict the fate of the PS4 in Japan as i've got no idea where it will end up. I'm just saying there is a reason we have to constantly play this just wait for E3 game and it's not because devs are holding back on announcing software.

There being less games is a worldwide problem and makes sense when you realise games these days are far more expensive and take far more time.

The problem with the "wait for the games" argument is that it is valid for some time, but it was destroyed in Media Create threads because of its incorrect use. Some people insist in using it when it is evident that "the games" won't come or that they are not system sellers, making it look like the argument is always wrong and is always the excuse of delusional system fans.

I'm surprised no one has posted about this: http://www.siliconera.com/2014/04/13/nintendo-packing-3ds-xl-recommended-software-japan/

Summary (from gonintendo):
- recommended game download offered as a bonus when you purchase a new Nintendo 3DS XL
- campaign starts April 26th
- 3DS XL will come with a voucher redeemable for a game chosen by Nintendo
- first two recommended titles are Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Yo-kai Watch
- both games available until May 31
- another set of recommended games will be announced after that date
- get a voucher for your 3DS XL purchase between April 26 and September 30
- voucher expires on Sept. 30th

I wonder whether Famitsu will track these sales.

No one is talking about secret third party NDAs in the delusional fashion of a year ago in this or any other sales thread afaik. Or #PS4HEAVEN. There's realism, however, in the idea that there are franchises that will have to transition somewhere and a likely destination is the PS4 and that until and unless they do the system will ultimately flounder in the Japanese market at least.

It's probably just a proper release date. I believe the game's been in private beta for a few months.

PS Vita 200 and Vita TV launching in China with Monster Hunter Online developed by Tencent as a killer app!

You joke, but the first screenshots of MHO were discovered because some Chinese forum posted pics of it on Vita.

Please be localization so I can stop playing MH on a small ass screen with sub-par graphics and play it on my PC.

Still remember the announcement trailer where Crytek if I remember correctly annouced a localisation at the same time, only to retract their statement later. Dammit, that was a bummer.

Oh I remember that quite well. :)

Gungho has partnered up with MarvelousAQL to launch a Puzzle & Dragons Z card/arcade game called Puzzle & Dragons Z: Tamer Battle.

Given the branding, as well as the amount of card games on the platform, I imagine we might see this eventually ported to 3DS.

Man they already partnered with SquareEnix and built a Puzzle and Dragons RPG Arcade Game came called Battle Tournament. They sure do love those collaborations.

Home systems always start slow in Japan, no matter which platform is, that's what I was trying to say; and also if the situation don't change this autumn, of course I won't use the "wait for the games" excuse...

Is the Wii U still beating the PS4 in launch aligned Japanese sales?

I don't have the numbers, but yes. Wii U launched during the holiday season though, so that's no big surprise. And PS4 have plummeted in the past few weeks, so I think Wii U's still got some margin left. I'm sure someone has some numbers close at hand.

Edit :
