MK7 launch week lead to 200K 3DS being sold. I think if Nintendo maintain 35-50K supply until MK8D launch they could easily move a similar number of Switches. It might not overtake it but it should clear 800K.
Obviously I could be wrong and Nintendo and retailers could under-stock or overstock for the MK8D launch. Personally I think it's mainly up to retailers to decide and if pre-orders continue to outperform MK7 and MK8 on the Wii U I don't see why retailers wouldn't want more stock aligning with the launch of Mario Kart on the Switch.

You realize MK7 launched during the December holidays right? There were other factors pushing the 3DS to 200k that week including an incoming MH game the following week and residual sales from Super Mario 3D Land.

I've rounded up all of the sales data on Switch's games from launch to now. ZSaberLink did the Dengeki chart from before so I'm using that, thanks! :)

It seems like all retail software is following a similar pattern aligned with the hardware sales. Could it be the leg prediction for Zelda are a little premature still?

Also worth noting that wasnt just for the testfire it was also for the end of the financial year
Ah right, that's true. That makes your numbers more plausible (though I still expect a bit more than that, at least in the first week shipment).

Is it safe to say that the Switch is not another WiiU yet? I mean, living here in Japan there is tangible excitement for this product totally unlike the WiiU. But is there some benchmark that people are waiting for? Or will it be more months of "too soon to tell"?
It must have been clear by now that many in here live in their fanboy / GAF / internet bubble. You can't expect many things from someone who doesn't have touch with reality.

I was looking back to the PS4 launch. Apparently there was a large tax increase that happened around this time (all the consoles took a hit). Always fun to go back and see the reactions with a view of what's going to happen.

I certainly wasn't expecting the 3DS to still be selling better this year than last year. Wonder how long it will last.

To be fair, 100k untracked 2DS are missing in these numbers for 2016.

Gah, I forgot about them! They came back to bite me in the capital B after all the "don't forget the Pokémon 2DS bundles" posts last year, ha ha. I knew there was something fishy about 2DS sales for a while now.

I really wish MC and Famitsu had tracked them properly.

I think people underestimate demand for the Switch at the moment, this is clearly a more desirable product than Wii U and once Splatoon 2 drops it would be far more desirable than 3DS's launch year. 3DS had the advantage of backwards compatibility but it's actual form factor, price, launch year line up and the 3D itself were underwhelming.
MK8D dropping so early during it's lifetime would definitely provide a nice incentive for a bigger restock. Like I said in the prior thread - 150K restock is the minimum I would expect for it's launch.

It was also, a new game.

For the people that didn't own the Wii U it's a new game that can be played on Nintendo's brand new handheld.

Today, pre-orders of Dragon Quest XI started. Both versions are fighting for the first spot, even result at the moment.
Still, since 3DS has a wider instalbase, she expects this version to lead at the end.

I would say it's too early to set a "forecast" even in terms of "Wii U vs 3DS" potential.
It has been supply constrained, and this means that there could have been more sales but also that we could have seen a better debut (like the Wii U one) and lower sales after that. We don't know yet.
I thknk that MK8D sales and hw boost will be pretty indicative and significant: it is a "remaster" of an existing game, that has already sold many copies in Japan: if it will be able to sell very well and boost the hw it could be the sign that Switch has a wider appeal than Wii U.
Of course, the Holidays will be the "final" test to check the real potential of the Switch in terms of sales.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.

Come on. Just look at the graph from the last page. This isn't rocket science here.

Promising hold on Switch. I expect it'll be able to hold till Mario Kart easily and should experience another bump

edit: nvm, found the prediction thread

Zelda is outselling FFXV by this time next year, no doubt in my mind.

That would make it the best selling Zelda since OOT in Japan.... so while it'd be awesome, I think it's still too early to say that. It'll do well though :).

Yeah, especially since (almost) all Switch retail software is showing comparable types of drops and rises in sales as BOTW, so it could possibly not be due to powerful BOTW legs.

Updated my post above with Famitsu's newest numbers. Looks like everything went up this week in terms of placement, AND Bomberman got an actual boost! Snipperclips is also back!

Lego Worlds just had the 2nd best opening week for a Lego game in Japan (beat Lego City Undercover the Chase Begins by 1 unit xD).

Famitsu #s:
WIU LEGO City Undercover 18.077 74.734 Nintendo 7/25/2013
PS4 Lego Worlds 13.937 13.937
3DS LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins 13.936 58.406 Nintendo 3/5/2015
PS2 LEGO Star Wars 5.580 20.068 Eidos 7/7/2005
... (all other Lego games opened below Lego Star Wars, you can see the huge drop after City Undercover).

Did I ever say it wasn't a more desirable product than the Wii U? All I said is that you lack context in your predictions like you always do. Do you remember when you predicted Zelda would be a million seller by the time Mario Kart came out a while back? Because I do.

I provided the context of why I expect a larger restock of Switches last week's thread.
MK7 coming in the holidays ahead of MH5 is comparable to MK8D coinciding with Golden Week, first major Switch restock.
Regarding Zelda I don't know why you bring it up. My prediction was based on a larger launch shipment for the Switch launch month which didn't materialize. In the end for 2017 your predictions were totally unrealistic.

PREDICTION LEAGUE YEAR 2017

[NSW] Nintendo Switch Hardware - 3,300,000

[NSW + WIU] The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - 620,000
[NSW] Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - 780,000

PREDICTION LEAGUE YEAR 2017

[NSW] Nintendo Switch Hardware - 4.500.000

[NSW + WIU] The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - 1.500.000
[NSW] Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - 1.950.000

The Zelda prediction you made after its first week sales were known though. You knew how much supply was coming because we already had a rough idea from Nintendo, so you made that prediction without using context. I'll back it up when I have time to go find some quotes.

I may have undershot my predictions, but I would bet you that I end up closer on all counts of what you just quoted.

I'm not surprised by PS4 being head-to-head with the 3DS version, in terms of initial preorders.
I think that the wider install base and the different demographic will play a significant role more in terms of actual sales and legs than preorders.

I didn't realize you knew ahead of time how much Nintendo would ship for the entire month of March

We knew they were shipping roughly 2 million world wide by the end of March, which means only a portion of that is going to Japan. There was no way they'd have as much as you expected.
