Guessing you can upload your own pictures as the backgrounds for the Super Monkey Ball stages.

Those girls in the background are weirdly unnecessary, on the other hand I'm ok with the girl in her bath-robe with her giggles, I must admit she has caught my attention somehow.

I didn't realize btw that Nintendo had released till now on 3DS just 12 games in 14 months. That's quite a very low number. Especially if we take into account the fact that some of them weren't developed in-house and some others were remakes.

A lot of their attention is on the Wii U right now, I'd assume.

How is vita advertisement in japan? are they handling it better there than they are in the states?

According to the Red Sun Gamer podcast, there are advertisements, but they're promoting minor titles that are several months away.

I just looked a moment on Garaph the top selling DS games in Japan. I still remain baffled by these numbers.

33 million sellers.
33 games between 500k and 1M.
83 games between 200k and 500k.
131 games between 100k and 200k.

Amazing. And of these 33 million sellers:

1 was above 6 millions (Mario) and it was approaching 6.3 millions at the end of last year. 0_0
4 (!) of them were above 5 millions
1 between 4 and 5 millions.
4 between 3 and 4 millions.
4 between 2 and 3 millions.
19 between 1 and 2 millions.

Of this last category, the overwhelming of them sold between 1 and 1.3 millions.

Kirby still chugging 6 months later.

Kirby is maybe the most unpretentious, yet powerful franchise ever.

Strange, I expected IE Go to last a bit longer... Level-5 should really give their series a bit of a rest, yearly installments obviously aren't working for them anymore.

listen to the mad man
A lot of their attention is on the Wii U right now, I'd assume.

Well, it's not an exact 1:1 comparison, but why not compare DS in the pre-Wii launch period versus 3DS in the pre Wii U launch period?

DS First 14 months (Dec 2004 - end of Jan 2006): 30 titles, counting Nintendogs as 1 as with the 3DS list you just quoted
Assume a September 2012 release date for Wii U (5 months from now), DS from June 2006 (5 months before Wii) going back 14 months: 33 titles

So, again, not exactly 1:1, but either Nintendo would like to produce more 3DS software but is very poorly equipped to handle the additional manpower needed for Wii U games, which bodes very poorly for a number of things in the future, OR the lower amount of 3DS software reflects an intentional shift... perhaps to fewer SKUs so each can be more successful, perhaps to give 3rd parties room to breathe, perhaps because digital software is taking up teams or attention, perhaps external partners have moved on. Someone else can take the ball and run from here, I don't intend on doing any further analysis.

The efficiency of Nintendo in producing software titles for two different systems at the same time sure has been reported previously. Iwata admitted it was one of their main concern. I suppose that their main objective is keeping a constant flow of new games, i.e. avoiding holes like after Wii's- or 3DS's launch, respectively. Increasing the total output is probably something they will care of once they stabilize their development schedule.

someone mentioned a MHxPokemon game as a joke in the nintendo direct thread. That got me thinking at how huge that could actually be. Would probably break japan

Also as has been said for years now Third Party's worry if Nintendo is over-supplying the market, it cuts into everyones sales. Fine for Nintendo, but they do seem to want to get other developers interested.

Add to which, as others have said - there is likely to be a pretty big Wii U development programme right now.
Same reason for lack of software on Wii. They are preparing for likely a big big launch.

Third party software sells best when Nintendo software sells best. Maybe one day this will become understandable.

Yep, and Nintendo should collaborate with Capcom to offer some special equipments.

Sword & Shield = Master Sword & Hyrule Shield
Armor = Green Tunic

... etc.

get6-2 blog is updated in favor of Fire Emblem:

First day sales could be close to 200k with many sellouts.

Nintendo is rumored to have printed 30k bundles for online buy. Total first week shipment for software will be bigger that 300k.

Code of Princess shipment is about 30k, with better than expected sellthrough.

Nintendo getting rewarded for going all-out with a long overdue sequel is great news.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
So, Fire Emblem a bigger brand than Kingdom Hearts at the moment? :p

Nice.
Fire Emblem can look at a +250k opening week, which would be astonishing given the results obtained by previous entries. And given the great reception and golden week coming, it could also have nice legs.
As for Code of Princess, at first I thought it would have sold barely 10k, but now it seems it could achieve a nice LTD, given its pretty low production values. The (small) team should be really happy.

I wonder what's up with Paper Mario. Since it was first shown at E3 2010 IS released two new Fire Emblem games -- but Paper Mario is still nowhere to be seen. Is the team working on it so small? Was the production slowed down in favor of FE? Is Nintendo purposely holding it back? Has it been moved to the Wii U? Or is it just the kind of game that takes 3 years of development time?

We don't know offcourse, but I think IS often helps in producing 1st party tools. Maybe a part of IS has been making devtools or OS centric parts for WiiU?

And they might also be helping with a warioware launch game.

What though if it outsells every recent kingdom hearts?

Yeah, Kingdom hearts throughout recent years on DS and PSP has been not a mainstream series - appealling just to a niche fanbase and with sales below PS2 mainline games -, but all the same I don't think it's fair to compare the worst (so far) selling Kingdom hearts iteration ever with the possibly best selling ever Fire emblem game and set it as a general trend.

To start with some may argue that a KH spinoff - let alone a mainline episode - would have sold much better on PSP with a much larger userbase.

The spin offs are all kingdom hearts has these days though, by the time there's next a mainline entry will anyone care

I don't really understand such comparison.
Sure it is pretty incredible to see those numbers for a series that in recent days has always performed on average, compared to FC/SFC numbers, but Kingdom Hearts is a totally different story.

We don't know, maybe people has just grown tired of Kingdom hearts after too many minor releases - and that would explain how come its 3DS's iteration's underwhelming sales so far - but again I wouldn't go that far to consider the whole IP as doomed.

I wouldnt consider the whole ip is doomed but its quite plausable its popularity could've taken a serious haircut
