Media Create Sales: Week 15, 2013 (Apr 08 - Apr 14)

I think that if it has a very good week during GW (around 100k or so, which is not impossible since it's selling 60k in a regular week) it might have a shot to do it. Regardless all what people were saying about the fact that Nintendo was only pushing Tomodachi :D

Two questions:

-how much will the "new" Etrian Odyssey sell? If it can sell well enough (let's say, around 150k), could we see a shift in direction for the series?

If it sells more, I think they'll take EO5 in that direction. If it sells about the same, but gets really good reception, I think they'll consider it still.

The thing with the new EO is that it's a win/win for new people who want to try the series but want more story, and the classic gamers. You get a Story and Classic option. There's also an option for the FM or orchestrated music, but I don't think they'll do two different versions of the soundtrack in newer EOs since the FM music was already there in EO1 and they're just importing it. Then there's also three difficulty levels.

There's enough customization that everyone will be happy, both new people and the hardcore EO gamers. So I think moving the series that way is a smart idea.

Hola! Traduciendo por ti con mucho gusto!!! XD

Normally, I'd be able to post this ASAP in about 3 hours from now, but today was different. =P

Anyway, you don't have to wait for me.

And always put the Top 50 link to Dengeki, let's give them some hits...

Do people still think it's plausible for NSMBU to outsell FFXIII given this data...?

It has sold over 500k already. How many Vita games have sold over 500k?

Thought so...

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.

Though so...

Isn't FFXIII like 1.8-1.9m on the PS3?

Monster Hunter Online has been officially announced: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=542352

Capcom/Tencent, CryEngine 3, PC.

Putting it here since it might end up with a console port at some point.

third lowest numbered mario party only beating 2 out of 3 of the gamecube versions and less than half of mp8.

3DS version will probably be huge but 9 didn't sell well comparatively imo.

GC had 4 mario parties and mp9 is going to pass mp5 soon. only mp4 will be ahead when all is said and done.

but yeah, mp9 had a big drop off from mp8. the Wii's death was bad for many of the late games.
mp3DS has the benefit of being the first one for 3DS and mpDS was the best selling one in japan.

Yes, all Nintendo first party games since NSMB2 will have day and date downloadable versions.

i'm asking because the digital release could make cloning pokemon super easy provided you have multiple SD cards. just back up your complete SD card, trade a valuable poke for a shit one and then restore your SD data with the copy you made. unless they introduce a new way to stop you from copying the data from the SD card, this is gonna make rare pokes not rare anymore.

Yeah, i remember seeing some predictions that Mario Party 9 would pass 1 million copies sold, so it sold less than some thought it would do. It shall be interesting to see how Mario Party for 3DS will do.

Mario Party 3DS will be interesting to watch indeed. The GBA Advance MP didn't sell very well but the DS version was simply a monster.

Luigi's legs are still blowing me away. Couple it with the news on NA sales, and it seems like something of a runaway success thus far.

Did I miss something? are NPD numbers out already?
I can't find anything, I was looking forward to it.

Btw, as I said in another thread, I gather Luigi DLC may boost NSMBU sales as a result.

As I mentioned in that thread, Reggie has used shipped numbers in the lead up to NPD release before. He's not particular with his numbers, at all. :/

But he was talking about digital sales in those statements along with FE:A's sales including a digital percentage, so I'm inclined to believe they are talking about retail + digital sales.

What's going on in Japan? Everything seems to be dying. Hell, even 3DS seems to be on a massive, catastrophic downward spiral (20,000 units down YoY?).

Has hardware reached saturation, or was this just an unusually slow week for all systems?

I'm going to assume he thought you were talking about FFX :lol

He was doing the "when you can't say anything good about the WiiU compare it to anything that the Vita does worse". (WiiU and Vita are interchangeable in this sentence)

I thought Road did a pretty good impression.

Well look at the software releases for the week. The biggest release was a game that opened with 44k. Slow week etc etc.

I think he used Nintendo internal numbers for retail sales, not shipped number.

In the case I'm talking about (EBA), his pre-NPD quoted numbers were multiple times over the NPD result that month. NPD wouldn't be that far off. He's quoted Metroid Prime 3 (or was it Other M) numbers that were way whacked out from actual NPD before, too. Reggie has just plain shown himself to not be a useful source for numbers. Maybe he's all changed around here, but I wouldn't bet on it.

But he was talking about digital sales in those statements along with FE:A's sales including a digital percentage, so I'm inclined to believe they are talking about retail + digital sales.

While he would've had access to retail + digital, he's shown himself to just plain not be useful as a source for numbers in the past, so don't just assume he means retail, when he could be using shipped + digital even. The FE total + digital was after NPD came out, and still included the bundled systems in that number. NOA is just a mess for numbers these past few years. :/

even 3DS seems to be on a massive, catastrophic downward spiral (20,000 units down YoY?).

smh

Hyperbole much?

It's pretty interesting to see Puyo Puyo hovering around rank 50 week after week. The original release, one of the last games to come out for the DS, did pretty bad compared to previous entries but that special price version has some small but steady legs. I think SEGA ought to be inclined to call the overall project a mild success now. Wonder how that puzzdra clone is going to do now.

I'm sure some will make the shortages excuse, but it's pretty apparent that the Vita price cut is a failure, though it did result in a longer respite than I had initially expected. Ironically, it'll probably go down in gaming history as having shortened the platform's lifespan, as it'll make it harder for Hirai and Yoshida to justify keeping it around.
We dont know what it cost to produce it VS what it "cost" (potential lost income) to drop it completely, so i think it is very hard to say that. We also cant know when the Vita would be discontinued if it didnt have a pricedrop. Out of curiousity, do you thin that the Vita will be discontunied even earlier than May 2014 because of this pricedrop?

I think he used Nintendo internal numbers for retail sales, not shipped number.
What are the internal numbers based on?

I mean, I guess it was a slow week. I just hope that the hardware market recovers there soon.

Also, can we safely assume that Luigi's Mansion 2 has crossed a million units sold cumulatively worldwide? Considering it's ~516k units in Japan, and 415,000 units sold in North America, and the fact that it has held steady in European sales (I think it's been #5 in the UK charts for three weeks straight?), I think that is a reasonable assumption to make.

Definitely above 1m. Next investor meeting that's going to be a key point i guess, as far as 3DS strength and software sales.

It increases the likelihood that it'll happen earlier than May of next year, yes. The Q1 (August 2013) and Q3 (February 2014) FY2013 results would currently be my best guesses for when it might happen, assuming it's tied to a quarterly earnings release (which might not necessarily be the case), but I maintain that it'll be the FY 2013 year-end results at the latest.

Q2 (November) is less likely, since while I don't buy at all that there would be any significant lasting negative impact on PS4, it'd still be a PR distraction from the PS4 launch that Sony would rather avoid.

Special Price, MC 2012 - 15,903
Original Release, MC 2012 - 66,344

And Ragnarok Ace delayed from July 11 to TBD: http://www.siliconera.com/2013/04/18/ragnarok-odyssey-ace-delayed-from-july-to-tbd/

The original release date was announced last week, lol.

Yeah that's good legs for the new price.

Why can't we get these in NA. :'( Would've KILLED for Puyo 7 Wii in NA. 20th 3DS is another perfect pick. :(

Alternatively, there's an eShop version that's scaled down in content for cheaper, that's likely the one to go with, but I'd be super happy with both!

At this point I think the only way we're getting a new Puyo game is if they made a MBM2/Puyo x Sonic.

You answered your own questions.

Nothing substantial being released. But I believe some games will receive a second wind with the discounted prices. Gravity Rush and Ragnarok for example.

I think it's likely for Cross Blood Infinity to sell around 50k after Demon Gaze was pretty successful, no?

Smart choice from Sony, the timing may be right since PSV has sold very well last month, just after the price cut, so there's a lot of potential customers who did miss older titles.
