Didn't it kind of bomb on the PS2? :lol

or maybe that was just in the West

Nah it didn't bomb, and it was never released in the west (PS2 version). The GC one did decently in Japan and is probably the best selling Tales game in the west.

Symphonia PS2 wasn't released in the West. Abyss did though, and it bombed. Symphonia PS2 easily outsold the GC original in Japan.

You're right, I am dumb -_-

I was definitely confusing Abyss' PS2 release with Symphonia's in the West

Unless Symphonia isn't popular anymore in Japan (which wouldn't really make sense) I don't see why a PS3 Symphonia R would bomb.

It seems like a game Nintendo would secure for Wii U though. But they'd have to secure complete exclusivity in some way because otherwise Namco would just port it to the PS3 with some extra content (would sell more too lol).

Most likely Nintendo could secure timed-exclusivety in JP, but work with Namco to localize it (funding and whatnot, possibly co-publish) so they in a sense own the localization, thus preventing any non-Nintendo version from ever seeing the day of light in NA.

That to me is why the original on PS2 never came, and why Samurai Warriors 3 also never came here on PS3 and PSP, for NG3RE, the localization was already done on PS360 (Nintendo also only published it in NA and EU), Nintendo didn't fund or help with the Wii U version.

Which explains why that got ported and released worldwide on PS360.

For Symphonia, Nintendo would be very smart to make this happen for NA and EU fans because by far it was the most successful Tales in NA. A remake would attract fans of the original and as well with the automatic association of it being on a Nintendo home console again, so far the name has only been on Nintendo platforms outside Japan.

And it's natural for platform associations with certain games if they followed a trend (hell Namco admits this for the PS platform choices in JP). This is why I think a remake of Symphonia (or even Symphonia 3) on Wii U would be very smart despite weak sales of Wii U, and besides, it ain't getting any better without the games. :p

Besides we have Graces F on PS3 in NA to judge the series' potential outside JP on PS3, it sold well below the previous games, even Abyss 3DS IIRC did pretty well.

What boggles me is how a golden opportunity to pull a Symphonia 2.0 with Graces on Wii never happened, what stopped Nintendo from doing the same thing they did with Symphonia for Graces? Not only that, the game would've come out during the Operation Rainfall event which obvious gained a temporary bump in interest for big JRPGs on Wii in NA at least.

No way in hell Graces Wii would've done worse than Graces F on PS3.

6/27 Toukiden(also coming to the PSP)
7/11 Ragnarok Odyssey Ace(also coming to the PS3)
7/25 Dragon's Crown(also coming to the PS3)

Tales of Festival is on June 1st so we'll probably see a Tales of the Tempest R announcement or something.

Thanks, do you know what the release dates are for GE2 and FFX-HD?

Kinda worrying that Vita's big releases are coming to other platforms too.

I'm not sure what title could effectively carry the Vita this holiday season in Japan.

2 ff x ports, ragnarok odyssey ace, toukiden

killzone and tearaway if you count only exclusive

Year of the Luigi.

Without being effectively discontinued that would be pretty hard to manage.

Not that being effectively discontinued if off the table however.
Depends completely on upcoming third party support, we're only a third of the year in, there's still alot of time left for announcements.

And Yu-Gi-Oh!

[NGB] Pokémon Gold / Silver (Nintendo) {1999.11.21} - 2.383.096 / 6.011.723

[NGB] Pokémon Trading Card Game (Nintendo) {1998.12.18} - 51.010 / 931.614

Total - 3.923.729

[NGB] Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters IV (Konami) {2000.12.07} - 1.669.307 / 1.669.307
[NGB] Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters III (Konami) {2000.07.13} - 718.429 / 718.429
[NGB] Yu-Gi-Oh! Monster Capsule (Konami) {2000.04.13} - 129.095 / 129.095
[NGB] Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters II: Dark Duel Stories (Konami) {1999.07.08} - 87.768 / 984.864

Total - 2.604.599
Whats sad is since 2005-20011 there's been 16 Yu-Gi-Oh games that I can see at garaph.info, none passed 200k. This is worse than Capcom style of milking.

I'm not expecting it to bomb but for all we know it could be a crappy port or make bad decisions like the Vita games have.

If Nintendo wanted exclusivity they seem to have a close enough relationship with Bamco to get it through some sort of deal. Like I said though it depends on what else they have planned because if they somehow have another PS3 Tales game coming Symphonia would be open for other platforms.

Those titles came out when Yugioh first came out and now its so big that people just play it in person. I'm convinced that the only reason they still made them is because it was cheap to reuse the same engine over and over which is why we haven't seen them on the 3DS(in edition to the fact that there are now free alternatives).

Do we have software totals for the Game Boy? And an all-time chart for games?

While there was the double pack and digital sales, I feel your point still holds if we switch to 300K.

In my mind the biggest problem Sony has right now in terms of keeping the Vita a living platform is getting a Fall line-up. Unless I'm forgetting something, so far the only "big" (in Vita terms) releases coming up are Toukidan in June and God Eater 2 near the end of Summer.

They need something to follow that up with to inspire confidence that the platform will keep getting at least somewhat notable titles.

They will probably have some other niche titles, and of course they cannot do worse than last year, with only AKB149 for Christmas, but yeah, they are in trouble with the Fall line-up now. In fact, we don't know about 3DS Fall line-up as well, outside Project Mirai, Inazuma Eleven Go Galaxy and the new Little Battle Experience.

So what a lot of people don't know, in regards to how Sony works, is that Soul Sacrifice will almost definitely see a PS3 port.

Sony has never, nor will they ever, respect their handheld gamers.

can you list the sony handheld games that received console ports? I can think of a couple of multiplats and collections but not any ports of the top of my head.

Both God of Wars PSP and PSV Hot Shot Golf - can't remember anything else.

Ah yeah hot shots is a good one, God of wars part of a collection like i said which was what 3 or 4 years later? If that counts a no respect for handhelds then any port is no respect to its original platform

Fat Princess, Flow, anything God of War, MLB The Show, Motorstorm: Arctic Edge, Secret Agent Clank, and more.

It's not even like Sony is the strongest first party developer around, but they have so little faith in their handheld division. It seems like they won't ever put their A teams on handheld projects.

Fat princess and Flow were PS3 first then ported to PSP.

MLB has been multiplat from the start.

Motorstorm was esentially multiplat aswell the releases were a couple of weeks apart.

The God of wars were years later as part of God of War collections. Not available individually.

The only ones so far that really fit are HSG6 and Clank.

Didn't realize they were so close in LTD. Even if PS3 SW sales begin to trail off, it should still pass the Wii, which is somewhat surprising given the latter had a dozen more million sellers.

Wii support was a lackluster with respect to PS3, though. Wii had many more million sellers, but sales were concentrated among them.

Look at the difference at the end of 2010, when Wii was essentially dead (for new releases) from then on.

Yeah. Plus Wii U really should've come out in 2011 for Japan. Was saying that as far back as 2009, I think.

This seems as good a Sales-Age place to ask as any; what are the chances Nintendo announces a Wii U price-cut, effective immediately, at their FYE earnings announcement on Thursday?

Can they do so and load the losses into this FY?

Because (in full realization that a price cut would be much more effective with more software to back it up) if not now, when?

The more I think about it, the more I think there's no way they can leave it in this state through to June/E3 or wait until they have Mario Kart ready at the Holidays.

They will wait until they have major software to back up a price cut. Without that software a price cut is a short lived blip on the radar. With that software a price cut will create momentum similar to how it worked for the 3ds.

Slim to nil.

E3, together with all the software megatons and reveals for the rest of year, to set up that unstoppable momentum they acheived with the 3DS. Count on it (maybe).

Pokemon?

3rd-parties I guess was what he/she meant.

But yeah, past summer is a bit bare, hope there's some UBER support coming. Less lower tier games, more biggens.

I want to know what MAQL is cooking up for 3DS aside from Kaio, if they'll actually announce you-know-what, and maybe the next HM and RF5, which was confirmed to be greenlit last year.

Namco's been a great shower of smaller tier support with their anime games and others, but now is the time for something bigger, Tales or maybe even Ridge Racer 3D 2 would be lovely.

Konami... well, I'm not overly hopeful, I would personally kill for Peace Walker 3D (Naked Sample visuals to boot and I would be in heaven), but imagine if ZOE 3DS was actually real and not a troll tease *foams in mouth*.

Sega should have something aside from Miku, though I feel lucky we even saw Miku 2 which shouldn't be a feeling I should be having...

Koei Tecmo owe us Ninja Gaiden 3DS, they actually said it was still early as far back as E3 2011, so as of then it was confirmed to still exist, how about it? Remake Dragon Sword into a proper 3D game PLEASE! Another warriors is actually due, they were said to be very happy with Chronicles 2nd's performance, I think they hinted at another.

Capcom's good with MH4 and Gaist Crusher and AA5, who knows what's in-store, maybe a portable Basara to tie-in with Basara 4 (the previous portable ones were on PSP).

Square Enix should be gearing up for DQM2 3D as the trademark points to, but how about SOMETHING FF-related that's actually an RPG? Bring back Chocobo! :'(

Atlus is well covered this year, but a send off of 2013 with Persona 3 would be lovely, as they owe us Persona 3DS and the movie is still this year IIRC.

Level 5 is also good.

Having trouble thinking of other big JP publishers.

I don't think the 3DS fall line up will be an issue. Even if it ONLY has pokemon and the aforementioned Project Mirai and Level 5 games it'll still do huge numbers. I sort of expect Monster Hunter 4 to still be charting through that period and there are enough releases in the summer to give it some huge momentum into fall even if Pokemon has to sustain the boost on it's own.
