I'm going to Osaka in a couple of weeks so I ordered 4 Switches to my hotel. Amazon JP says they will have them in stock on May 7 and they should arrive May 8 or 9. Does anybody know how reliable this estimate should be?
Since I have the order am I guaranteed the Switches? Also how accurate are the Amazon JP delivery estimates? It seemed a little unclear as to whether the order was guaranteed or I'm just in a queue and might miss out.

I ordered one of each colour and my wife did on her account. They'll only let you order one but only count it by colour. It isn't available in Korea so it's the only way for us to get one each plus one each for two of our friends.

If Nintendo gives it enough marketing, I can see it debuting around 150k (like the original Splatoon) and legging it out to 400-500k. Anything much more than that and I would be pleasantly surprised.

I haven't read it but probably that week it reached that length because of the usual Dragon Quest, Monster Hunter talk. Thank God Square Enix already ended those pointless discussions by releasing the game on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS (Nintendo Switch too).
By the way, that thread was apparently shared 44.000 times! I guess it has to be a glitch, I noticed most old threads from 2013 have the same amount of Facebok shares.

To be honest... kind of. If you're a Japanese publisher with a game that can run at 720p 30 FPS on Switch, I don't know why you wouldn't do it. PSwitch4 is to Japan what PS4/XB1 is to the West, I would say, except they'd be covering both the home and handheld markets at the same time.

I'm predicting it does 250k in Japan and beats the 1.2m WW sales MK8 managed in its opening. The game is already the 2nd best seller of the year on Amazon.com (behind Zelda and ahead of horizon) and 3rd on Amazon.co.uk.

Pretty interesting to see how kids are aware of Splatoon 2 and its release date, while at the same time oblivious to the Global Testfire. I suppose it was the more "core" crowd the kind of audience aware of the Testfire, the ones who could even go and buy the console just for that.
Speaking of Minecraft, I wonder what was your kids' reaction when the Vita version came out, if you can remember / they ever expressed opinions on it. Were they more eager to buy it through PSN or did they still prefer to wait for the physical version? A bit curious on this. Thinking about it, its release date is interesting: technically, eShop only games release on Thursday on the Switch eShop, while Minecraft is out on May 12th, a friday, which is the current Nintendo-specific day for worldwide releases. It's as if they're trying to highlight it somehow, and I wonder if we're going to get tv commercials in Japan.

This is a good chance to talk about something that people don't bring up much. Awareness.
I had a lesson with the topic "I like" a bit ago and I had a photo of myself playing Splatoon 2 on the Switch. This was mind-blowing to the students in a few respects:
1. Their teacher was cool enough to play Splatoon
2. How on earth was I playing it when it is not out until July?
So kids are aware of Splatoon (even kids who don't play games). Those "in the know" were surprised I was playing it because they know that the release date is in July. I was surprised by how many of them knew the exact date. I said I took the photo during the Global Test Fire (スプラトゥーン2先行試射会
I saw many people on sales-gaf talking about how the demo for Splatoon 2 brought sales up during that week and like everything I say this will be anecdotal, but I don't think that is the case. I am sure a few games did buy a Switch just for the testfire but I think they were the exception. I think it sold more that week because more were available. I think it had more to do with it being the last week of the financial year (and Nintendo wanting to boost the numbers) than for the demo. I could be wrong, but thats what it feels like to me.
As for Minecraft. Kids know it is coming. Kids are aware of when it is coming. But for most of them it won't matter until the physical cart version comes out. It was the same for the WiiU version. Kids knew it was out but they didn't have credit cards so it became real for them when the disc version was released. I am sure a few kids will get the digital version (especially if they have download cards) but I think the majority of kid sales will be physical.
Makes me wonder how Nintendo will sell the paid online. I am guessing as 1 year gift cards?
