My aunt & uncle run a Mom & Pop store, "The Gamecube Hut", and sold 80k WiiU within minutes of opening.

Nintendo, don't wait for E3. Release NSMB 3DS now!

You haven't announced it you say? Then do that and release it!! >_<

Nintendo got used to having their innovation gimmicks sell on the basis of a gimmick and not based on actual content delivery.

It concerns me that their perception was that "gee whiz 3D without glasses" was enough of a sales hook to balloon 3DS sales until their franchise pillar titles release. The Wii was an exception to the rule - not the new Nintendo rule. Clearly they didn't realize that.

I say this as a 3DS owner - albeit one that is spending most of his time on it playing Pokemon Black & White.

The big problem is out of their base of kids, women, and old people, only the kids care about 3D.

I know software will come and most likely a price drop. However just to be sure I really hope Nintendo is in overdrive trying to convince Capcom to put Monster Hunter on the 3DS.

Really? So DS and Wii didn't have software with mainstream appeal, they just sold for having a touch screen and a wiimote, rather than the software that used such? I would think the problem of the 3DS is that unlike those it doesn't yet have a killer app title (whose lack also hurt the Wii in recent times) rather than that the lack of killer apps only works twice and 3DS is the third time and suffers for it. The conclusion is obviously the same, a lack of appealing content, but the evidence and reasoning differs...

Monster Hunter isn't the only system seller in Japan.

It's not like the DS sold on gimmicks, that thing didn't start booming untill the good games came out. The Wii had Wii sports, which EVERYBODY fucking loved. What does the 3DS have? Nothing.

I know Nintendo is trying to bring more 3rd parties to the 3DS and shit, but if they don't bring out games and neither is Nintendo, then wtf are we supposed to do? Wait two months for another game? Nintendo really should of rethought the launch process with the 3DS. I love mine, but it sucks that I'm playing Radiant Historia on it more than my single 3DS game, SSF4.

Woo new thread :D

The DS declined in a similar fashion when it first came out and bottomed at 22k before going back up. I'm waiting to see if a similar trend occurs with the 3DS.

Edit: Had to bring this up:

13. / 13. [PSP] Monster Hunter Freedom 3 (Capcom) {2010.12.01} - 8.558 / 4.446.505 (+2%)

What a fucking champ. This is like the opposite of the "Son I am Disappoint" coming from the beast that was Monster Hunter Freedom 2G.

Hopefully Cafe has something more going for it 'cause I'm sure not even the kids care about having screens on their controllers. I sure as heck know women and old people don't. And Nintendo won't win over the hardcore without an online network that's on par with XBL/iOS Marketplace.

I actually do think Nintendo has something more up their sleeves, though. What we've seen thus far wouldn't have leaked out already if they didn't have something big to overshadow it at E3.

I know its unpopular opinion, but Im thinking it could have that result, 3DS could be the next gamecube. High Mario Kart sales, low hardware sales.

I don't know about Mario Kart specifically, it depends on if they will try something new with it or if it will just feel like a rehash much like Nintendogs and Animal Crossing and the like (after all, it's just racing, not an all new adventure), but the new actual Mario title will certainly push hardware as well as software.

What I find commendable is that PSP is trucking along and Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has really turned it around. It would be a stunning accomplishment and a credit to Sony if, at the end of the PSP gen, they approach or even exceed PS2 LTD numbers. Truly remarkable.

Contrast this with those Nintendo blowhards whose support often drops after 3 or 4 years and the schedule dries up completely thereafter.

The problem is simple: 3DS needs games.

What I question is what Nintendo was expecting out of initial 3DS sales. My thoughts? Glad you asked. Nintendo, like so many other companies right now, are overestimating the appeal of 3D screens. I don't think it's near the selling point many would like you to believe. Nintendo was banking on the 3D allure carrying them to Zelda and Mario. That's not happening. They blame marketing. I blame apathy towards 3D.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

So you think the 3ds won't sell more than 4 million units ltd ? You do realize that a Nintendo handheld will eventually get a pokemon main title right ?

Imo they were hoping the bundled AR games would have a Wii Sports effect, rather than the 3D by itself. It didn't work out. Obviously they pimp 3D in the adverts. It's the only radically new component when it comes down to it. Motion controls have been done, dual screens have been done, etc, even if it's unique in having it all together and portable. But it's still the content they miscalculated rather than the tech itself. They were selling motion controls with the Wii but they were doing it with Wii Sports, and that worked. AR games didn't so they need to come up with something else that will have the same mainstream appeal.

Absolutely spot-on. It's just not the compelling feature that Nintendo would have you believe it is.

The fuck are you talking about? Nintendo released Golden Sun and Pokemon B&W among others for DS in the last 6 months and that's not even considering they were gearing up to release software for TWO NEW platforms (What, you think Nintendo is just sitting on their ass with Wii2 and 3DS titles??)

Just curious but asides from Socom 4 what is SCE showering PSP with?

Then it's a pretty sudden shift of opinion from a 2008 Mario Kart game showing up in the Top 30 eleven times so far this year.

Nintendo/Pokémon DS games published after December 2, 2008 account for something like 3 times as many game sales as all SCE games ever published on PSP.

| PS3 | 19.033 |
Coming closer to post-Slim low record, 17,175. Might keep its head above that during GW but doubtful for May.

| WII | 7.866 |
New low record for Wii and not way off PS3 own low 7,438 (not counting SKU shifting weeks).

Other than the curious case of PSP, low HW overall and its only going to get uglier in May me thinks.

I blame 3D too. There was too much buzz about the 3D and not enough about the actual launch lineup. Nintendo should have known better. Bring on the games damnit!

Spot on. 3D is not for everyone (it gives me a headache when watching a 3d film or video games). I give credit to nintendo making an innovative product, but is it wrong of me to say that sony's ngp will have better games in the long run?
