Media Create Sales: Week 18, 2012 (Apr 30 - May 06)

Will people really spend 16k yens just for that ? Through i guess it can accelerate sales due to some fence sitters getting it earlier than later.

...Wait. Much more games on Vita than 3DS for next fiscal year?!?

No, but I'm baffled. 18 SKUs last year, and being the third best console. Now, just three SKUs, forecasting almost 400k sales in total.
Are they crazy or something will change in next months? It's absolutely ABSURD Sega doesn't care about 3DS, aside from Sonic & Sega All-Star Racing. And above all, that they care more about Vita than 3DS.

Sega doesn't care for the West anymore anyway outside of Sonic, Football Manager, Aliens, and Total War. So the only Sega 3DS games we're likely to see in the west now are Sonic games.

Yeah, and bigger games too.

3DS - ?
PSV - Miku, Phantast Star, ?

Isn't the awesome part here that they'll have 8 PC SKUs, and forecast it as their second most important platform after PS3?

I'm not sure. In the FPS genre for example, the Wii had all six Call of Duty games (from CoD3 to MW3), still it didnt really matter much in the long run. I think the reason for this was due to the hardware limitations of the Wii. Such a senario is not the case with the Vita compared to other handhelds.

I think it is pretty safe to say that MH helped the genre on the PSP (or in general for that matter), so i agree with that. But i dont think this necessarily means "make it or break it" if the genre can have games that people are really interested in.

CoD Wii wasn't a full blown cod though. Whether it was good or not doesn't matter as much, people still wrote it off as a inferior title. I think a better example of the effect that was being talked about would be with jRPGs -- the early announcement of ff13 propelled it as a go to platform for jrpgs, hacking off effectiveness of jrpg sales on the 360 back when it was trying. Not to mention how poorly xenoblade did sales wise on the wii.

Looks to me like the American launch of Rhythm Thief by the end of Q2, then the western releases of All Stars Racing Transformed by year's end. It is a bit weird given 3DS even outperformed 360 for Sega last year (how many companies can say that?).

I figured this year's Sonic (Dimensions?) would've gotten a 3DS SKU but maybe not. Or maybe Dimensions is really just an upgraded Generations since all we've heard is Wii U. Also, I guess no Alfasystem Phantasy Star to follow the genre kingmaker. Oh Sega. :/

Bizarre. I am reading that right that it says Sega are only prepping 3 3DS titles for the whole of the fiscal year? Bizarre.

According to good old Google Finance, Nintendo's shares have ended the day under 10,000 yen for the first time since 2004 (down 5%). Any theories on why?

I think this is probably right. It also doesn't preclude other releases entirely, PSO2 in the west and All-Stars Racing 2 in Japan might be digital only or just pushed into the next year.

There's also the chance Sega may add stuff though given all these releases are basically already known. I mean Wii U isn't accounted for at all and we know at least one launch game from them (with two others strongly rumored).

It's because investors see the overall outlook for the videogame market in the US as being terrible. Namely the "Overall industry down 32%. Software sales at retail are down 42%." bit.

Combined with a very weak Nikkei, due to concerns over the global economy and political insability in Europe.

Much easier to figure out what stocks are doing if you follow several from the industry as well as an aggregate like Nikkei 225. ESP since most sites will give you a recap on news that may or may not have caused any industry wide drops.

There isn't going to be a new retail Sonic platformer this year, if you believe the interviews Sumo has been giving.

Koei Tecmo FY presentation material: http://www.koeitecmo.co.jp/php/pdf/ird3_20120510_01.pdf

Warriors Orochi 3: 480k worldwide (my note: last known sell-through in Japan of ~390k in early February).

Plan for Dead or Alive 5: 1 million.

(Not sure if they sold $250 million yen and $45 million yen of Dynasty Warriors 7 and Warriors Orochi 3 DLC, respectively, of if that is a plan.)

Yeah, it seems like they might not be including unannounced titles in the SKU count. Very odd.

What is missing from the Wii versions? I know that it is max 5vs5 (compared to max 9vs9 on the other systems), and some killstreaks is missing from MW3. Anything else?

About what effects what or not, i dont think there is any general thing here. I think there are many unique cases that variates, maybe even from game to game. Like, what are the odds that the Xbox 360 would get the most support in Japan even if it did get FF13 at day one together with the PS3?

Exactly that, I think. Pokemon games move hardware, and with the DSi and the 3DS at the same sort of price, putting exclusive Pokemon on to the 3DS is a canny bit of business.

Obviously it won't move the same levels of hardware that an exclusive set of 3DS titles would, but Nintendo and Game Freak are plainly squeezing all the 3DS marketing opportunities that they can get from the games.

I'm pretty curious to see if we'll see a 3DS boost, even little, in USA too.

Well, I'm really glad Japan is hanging in there; 2012 is becoming quite interesting! Can't wait to see Wii U performance, NSMB2, Pokemon B2/W2, Dragon Quest X, RE7!

Patience is a plus.

Nintendo Directs have made retailer meetings almost irrelevant. The only new that came out is a new Nobita game.

Already another Doraemon game, rotfl.
It comes out on July, the 19th.

Other "useful" thing:

[GBA] Calcio Bit - 34.840

Its pretty safe to say that Sega list doesn't have unannounced games, look at the SKU and units total, its about half of previous years.

Seeing it like this I kinda realize how Yakuza is really not a big deal at all. I mean I knew the mainline games usually sell about half a million copies in Japan and a pretty insignificant amount in western territories, but I always considered that to be pretty solid considering the type of game it is. But seeing the numbers in this table illustrates how it actually sells more in line with low-tier handheld games than anything else.
Granted, Of The End was not a traditional mainline title, but still.

There is at least one unannounced game in development that is PSN/XBLA/Wii U that is not the aliens game so its missing some stuff or as people have said deliberately not listing Wii U
