Media Create Sales: Week 18, 2017 (May 01 - May 07)

I'm not sure why Next Order was even a thing. Cyber Sleuth had such great reception and they just squandered whatever goodwill they gained from it.

The game was clearly in development well before Cyber Sleuth came out. It's part of a separate series, so I doubt they were ever thinking of it as a followup to Cyber Sleuth or anything. That's what Hacker's Memory is.

Digimon series in a nut shell lol. Digimon World DS and the Dawn and Dusk is loved by the fans i remember. Then they drop the shitty Digimon World Cup tournament thingy that no one wanted lol. They never able to do the right things with the IP there.

Did Koei has an easy reading graph like these or just number?

I am actually quite surprised that S-E mobile revenue is doing quite well there.

Their latest mobile game does not seem to do really well at all.

Flame x Blaze is lukewarm, Akashic Records is kinda panned,Star Ocean Amnesia fate is like SOV, and of course, Samurai Rising is also not doing that hot.

Only Valkyrie Anatomia which is see doing a bit better as currently it had collab with Full Metal Alchemist.^^ But after the collab end, it is going to drop further there.

Bring DQX to the West already ;_;
Namco's plan for this FY sounds pretty good, although just Tekken and Ace Combat as their top titles might be a bit weak. Has a new Tales of been teased? If so, I'd think it'd be the one on Switch (and other platforms), not necessarily a remake that can happen anytime.

No, no teasing and it's too early for a new mothership title considering there's only one Tales team and they wrapped up Berseria less than ten months ago.
It's also heavily thought that for the next episode they will switch to UE4 because that's what every other internal team at Bamco are doing, that's not an easy task so we should even less expect much shorter dev time than usual.

A remake doesn't happen anytime either, in fact it only happened once with Destiny which was considered the same as a full new entry and was a commercial failure considering it didn't sell as well as a new entry.
Remasters could happen anytime though, if anything the timing fits for Vesperia 10th anniversary, especially for the western audience but it should be alright for japanese market considering the crazy legs Vesperia had there too.

Once people play the game once again they may realize it didn't age as well as they probably think (the same way Symphonia aged poorly) but maybe the full content of the PS3 port might make up for it.

Squenix MMO's days are numbered.

The next expansions for DQX and FFXIV are probably the last roll of the dice for those two games to have a long life. If subscriptions numbers continue to decline, they'll probably bite the bullet and start withdrawing support.

Considering how prideful S-E is, i think they probably is just going to bite the damage there and keep continuing the service till it ends there.

Especially when we know how much S-E had burned to get a Realm Reborn.^^

Can't link from here, but Twitter user's Blackkite has posted a slide for Namco Bandai plans for the just-started new FY. On the console side, it's made of

- Release Major WW titles (Tekken 7, AC7)
- foreign IP games
- DBXV2, Tales of and Taiko for Switch

While we already knew about the Switch games (and just today we had Unlimited World Red's announcement), the fact they were all mentioned while discussing the FY plans should mean that they could all be released by March 31st, 2018.

EDIT: Here's the source, page 11 of BN Presentation

SE is still supporting FFXI, which is like a 12 year old MMO. If they're still making money there, then they are certainly still making money from their newer ones and wont be shutting them down for many years to come.

Also judging by the graphs these are new sales for the recent fiscal year which saw no new FFXIV expansion. Heavensward came out in 2015 which led to a big surge in subscriptions so ofcourse last years new subcriptions saw a decline.

Hm ok... Good to hear they did well overseas. Was it primarily Europe though (I just doubt OP's popularity in the Americas). Although why would PS4/XB1 players not have experienced PS360 games though? There are fewer PS4s & XB1s in the wild than 360/PS3s thus far. I get if games were exclusive to one platform (like Last of Us), and 360 owners now play it on PS4, but this isn't that case.

We've talked about that slide earlier in this thread. Still, my post / update focuses on actual games announced (not just the series) up to December 31st, 2017.

But yeah, in theory we could already count Taiko no Tatsujin. A Holiday release for that game is inevitable.

I see, thanks for the info!
I'd personally bet either on Symphonia (GC history in the west) or Berseria (recent). With all DLC obviously, and probably some basic exclusive content.

Edit: depends who they are aiming for as you've said though. Vesperia would be a better choice for the JP market, probably not WW.

I'm not just saying it's Tales of Phantasia because it would be funny/stupid. A new version of Phantasia fits in with the strategy that other publishers like Capcom(Street Fighter 2), Konami(Bomberman R) and Square Enix(Seiken Dentetsu) are taking with their franchises and Switch and you'd be able to do single Joycon multiplayer too.

Marvelous' financial results for fiscal year ended March 31, 2017 is out, though only in Japanese for now. Their consumer game business did great; Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns (3DS) have been selling well, Fate/Extella (PS4/PSV) was a hit product topping previous games in the series by a wide margin, and Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash (PS4) have recorded strong sales, resulting in net sales totaling 9,067 million yen (up 20.2% from the previous fiscal year), and operating income of 2,042 million yen (up 102.9% from the previous fiscal year).

Switch sold out in 15 minutes today on Nintendo's store. Next shipment will be on the 18th.

Edit: Yokai Watch franchise continues to fall
https://headlines.yahoo.co.jp/hl?a=20170510-00000064-zdn_mkt-ind

The YW franchise made 10.4bil yen this past year. A big drop compared to the previous financial year where the franchise was worth 32.9bil, and a significant dropped compared to the franchise's peak of 55.2bil in the 2014 financial year. The current fiscal year output for the franchise is predicted to be another significant drop to 6.30bil yen.
Merchandise revenue
FY 2013-14 1.400.000.000
FY 2014-15 55.200.000.000
FY 2015-16 32.900.000.000
FY 2016-17 10.400.000.000
FY 2017-18 (proyected) 6.300.000.000
Game Sales
FY 2013-14 465.113
FY 2014-15 6.384.232
FY 2015-16 2.284.639
FY 2016-17 2.733.397

They actually sold more games last fiscal year than the one before that, to be fair, they released a lot last year.

Movies are following a downward trend too, and anime ratings are likely as well.

Supposedly no new game this year, so it'll keep going down, last FY year results were below expectations too.

Did the smartphone port of the original game ever came out? Apparently Puni Puni at least was doing alright for what it was.

Nintendo dominating the Market over there. Nice to know that the Switch has been doing well over there (although I wonder if it is because of the current time of the year since we are starting to move into summer, or that stocks of Switches and the titles out on the 3DS has given Nintendo a significant edge at this immediate time.)

lol the Vita version did eventually outsell the PS4 one. Kind of sad that Konami's best selling game on the platform appears to be their last. Never gave me my Tagforce 7. ;_;

I wonder if they'll give it a Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization-esque framerate to ensure Vita buyers move over to PS4.

(Except that plan didn't really work).

I'd consider the SAO "transition" a complete disaster. The last two games were clearly developed on PS4 and then ported to Vita, which resulted in the Vita versions being pretty unappealing products ... that still outsold the PS4 versions in Japan. The series' western appeal seems to be coming to a close as the next game is PSN-only, even on PS4, in North America.

It wouldn't be Level-5 if it something didn't get delayed for ages.

BTW, Snack World has yet to chart in the weekly 10 anime viewership rankings. Bomba World incoming?

I'll be going with an Alfa System developed spin off then.

No that ship has sailed it's over.
Also the first Tales being released on an hardware has never been a spin off either, these titles are only there to capitalize on an established fanbase.

I don't think there's some kind of masterplan between big japanese publishers about bringing back SNES era games, and even if there was Phantasia would be a very poor fit considering it only sold 200k on SNES while the PS1 port sold >750k three years later.

There's also the problem of the latest versions (Full Voice Edition then the expanded version in Narikiri X release) which don't even support multiplayer so they would have to bother implementing that or going with an older version
Unlike Seiken Densetsu it's also not a very multiplayer friendly experience, it's only there as a bonus mode and not something you can enjoy with someone 100% of play time (in fact battles are around 20-25% of play time in a Tales title).

Not ruling out the option completely but it doesn't make as much sense as you think it does.

Speaking of Snack World, yesterday was the first ever day I saw this franchise actually exist in Japan despite the anime already running for a month. Found a handheld fan at a 7-11 with Snack World printed on it mixed in with a dozen other fans featuring other intellectual properties.

Level 5 really screwed the pooch on this one.

Nonsense. It will be a hit bigger than Yo-kai Watch and release in 2015.

FF XV now at 990k.

Interview with the Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth producer:
https://www.famitsu.com/news/201705/11131937.html

Talks began for a new Digimon Story title in April of 2016.

There were talks of making it from scratch exclusive for PS4, but because of how much longer development would take to develop and the fact that this year is the 20th anniversary they wanted something to release this year to excite Digimon fans. So they decided to expand on Cyber Sleuth. They also said it didn't feel right for Vita owners suddenly making it a PS4 exclusive so they consider this a title to help move the digimon fans over and recommend those that played the original on Vita to experience this title on the big screen with PS4.

So great to see my expectations were right that they would start moving the series to PS4 in Japan so the wait for the game in the West wouldn't be long.
