Media Create Sales: Week 19, 2013 (May 06 - May 12)

Am I wrong to consider Todomatchi Collection sold 445K in April (total minus launch week sales)? If I'm reading it right it'd mean the game need to sell around 85K next week to fit with my April prediction (530K).

Yes, you counted an extra week.

So far it has sold 294.000 units. Sales for the month of May will probably be around 450.000.

I estimated that it would sell 505.000, so I'm afraid I have also overshot my prediction.

The success of Luigi's Mansion 2 is still mind-blowing to me and one of the biggest surprises this year so far in regards to sales

Personally, I hope the success of Luigi's Mansion 2 will lead to a line of Luigi only games/Luigi starring games. I always did like Luigi better than Mario.

Yeah the whole point of third party (at least in Nintendo's past strategy) was for games, and every now and then a sleeper hit or killer app, to be done on their console as they spent their time making in-house games in between. I'm actually not sure if Nintendo rushing their first party titles out due to the lack of cushioning in between will make them have better quality.

Really wish they made the WiiU more appealing to devs.

Taiko no Tatsujin sales comparison:

(Only listed those titles that sold over 600.000 units)

Week 43
[PS2] Taiko no Tatsujin: Tatacon de DODON ga DON {2002.10.24} - 10.884 / 652.879 (LTD 743.334)

Week 32 (That was the last time it charted in the weekly top 30)
[WII] Taiko no Tatsujin Wii {2007.12.11} - 3.365 / 588.273 (LTD 657.666)

Week 38 (Next time it charted was in week 50)
[NDS] Metcha! Taiko no Tatsujin DS: Nanatsu no Shima no Daibouken {2008.04.24} - 9.075 / 484.186 (LTD 691.510)

Week 43
[NDS] Taiko no Tatsujin DS: Touch de Dokodon {2007.07.26} - 3.533 / 393.923 (LTD 640.480)

As we can see, console Taiko no Tatsujin games had shorter legs than the portable ones. After week 43 neither PS2 nor Wii Taiko no Tatsujin title sold 100.000 more units until the end of its run. One of the reasons is that they got more sequels. For example, in a short span of 2 years, PS2 received 5 more Taiko no Tatsujin entries. Wii would have a yearly entry.

Anyway, it's worth noting that the second Taiko for NDS came just 9 month after the first one. And its legs weren't much affected since it would end up selling 250.000 more units once the sequel was already in the market.

Taiko no Tatsujin 3DS shouldn't struggle too much to sell another 100.000 more units, or at least close to it. So while the 600.000 unit mark is far from being a lock, it is something achievable. At least it should end up selling 550.000 units.

Thanks!
Since Namco Bandai hasn't announced a new 3DS Taiko game yet (perhaps this year we will see the first Wii U entry), it should top easily the 550k mark. maybe even more. If it arrives to Christmas, that's basically sure.

A lot of those are evergreen titles that can have long leg potential, that's probably what they are banking on.
Of course, this is assuming there's are other things in the pipeline.

Evergreen titles sell well because they are games people buy when the next system seller comes out.

People pick up Mario kart as their secondary title when another big title comes out.

Without the stream on games, evergreen titles lose momentum.

As for gamers, we'll be stuck in the constant holiday then drought cycle.

So, GT6 will be PS3-exclusive. Discuss!

PS3 is having the best swan song year a console ever had thats for sure .

Also GT5 selling 10 million worldwide is insane and thats not even including Prologue.

perhaps they will anounce its ps4 cross platform. would be a megaton if it is.

my question would be if it would see a ressurgence in Japan as it was in decline over there?

do we know why it is ?

I guess the next really interesting sales weeks will be next week for SMT IV and the week where DKCR 3D comes out.

Man, how has this thread gotten this far without any mention whatsoever of Ecstasy Wafter. If that game does not somehow involve farting...

PS3 is the reason I won't be getting a ps4 lol. They are hinting at it being future proof and say they will announce more at E3. Kagari has also said that she heard about a PS4 version, so its a safe bet.

GT5 is at 740k in Japan.

If GT6 is PS3+PS4 it could go back to its golden days and do 1 million+.

Don't forget they've added an interface enhanced for touch. You'll be able to access some features from PC, smartphone and tablet. And probably the 3DS. The fucking Nvidia shield. Probably the bastard pebble watch as well.

Hold it together Smoky. We need you here.

How much longer do you guys think it will take for the Vita to pass the 360 in sales? Also I think this holiday or early next year is going to be interesting to see if the Wii U can use big titles to pass the Vita.

PS2 was even better: Final Fantasy XII, Persona 3&4, God of War 2, Onimusha Dawn of Dreams, etc.

look at that end-of-gen lull. reminds me of the market in 2004 more than anything else, except the gba and ps2 were both doing well while everything else bombed.

yes . ps 2 was also amazing .

but technically God of war 2 And persona 4 where released post PS3 launch.

LOL.

But seriously, it was odd to see the Vita out of that list unless it was done purposefully to keep people from thinking it will be limited to an accessory use only. I'm pretty sure the Vita is getting its own GT (every PS console has) but I would have liked to see it announced today.

Sony better have something big of PS4 is going to flop pretty hard in its opening months. Japan does not seem receptive at all right now to higher priced systems. Im very interested where Yakuza and Tales of goes.

Will be funny in 2014 when Wii U will be selling more than PS4 in Japan.

I think Tales will stay on PS3 for at least one more game (not including possible ports), Namco has built a pretty loyal fanbase on that system, no need to go through that all over again right now. The PS3 will still be a viable platform for a little while.

The next Tales game is definitely for the PS3. They might have one more after that but I don't know. For now they confirmed no next gen plans. Once they do they'll obviously make a PS4 title.

For Yakuza they said Yakuza 5 is likely the last one on PS3. So Yakuza will probably get a PS4 entry early on.

Baba was also very clear about staying with playstation as every tales game sold better on their systems and the fact that three tales games came to vita despite them all bombing shows it.

I'm honestly baffled as to why they keep trying with the Vita remakes. Both Innoncence and Hearts bombed and, if Tempest R is a real thing, it'll do even worse considered how badly that one was received.

I'm also surprised they haven't done a new Radiant Mythology or something similar for one of the two handhelds, considering those games sold pretty well on the PSP... Oh well at least they got their shit together with the console Tales, even if it took them nearly an entire generation.
