Media Create Sales: Week 20, 2012 (May 14 - May 20)

Wait what's the story about burnpork? He had another meltdown? Really? Give me details plz. :D
No, he didn't have a meltdown. I'm still not entirely sure what he said wrong in the specific thread he was banned for(especially when eatchildren said the same thing as him) but he was basically banned for his overall behavior than any one specific event which is understandable and I'm surprised he wasn't banned earlier.

Just looking at the raw numbers, that holiday 2005 DS explosion really makes the difference.
3DS

3DS will get some retroactive bonus on this image, though, once the 2011 Top 1000 gets in.

I wasn't sure how right this was thanks to things like Tamagotchi starting to appear for DS in this time frame, but it holds up.
3DS

3DS

MK7 and SM3DL are a big deal, but DS had more of that caliber.
Wow... This does put things in perspective. O_O
It's really encouraging to see the third parties this high compared to the DS... Hell, third parties are even almost at the same level as the first party games... Surprising for a Nintendo console!

3DS got also way more support than DS.
The first AAA third party attempt on DS was FFIII and it was released almost two years after the launch.

Ah!
This is great to hear!
I can't wait to see what will come out in the future! ^_^

But, the same graph for the Vita and PSP would certainly looks more... bleak.
It would be interesting to see nonetheless. :O

[EDIT]
PSV

PSV

PSV

Hum... Well... not as bad as I thought... except that 3DS beat the third party support of PSV by a mile...
Still, not as interesting as I initially thought. :/

I wonder what the exact same chart would look like without Monster Hunter 3G.

Well... Look:
MonHun

You can see where Monster Hunter started. It's very visible. Yet, it would still be good. It gave a push, but it's pretty apparent it wasn't the only game that did it.
It would be good, but the 2005 holidays would have destroyed the 3DS third party. xD

Anyone else hoping for a real strong showing for Dragon's Dogma?

I think a good opening for a new IP at this point in the generation could be just the tonic the market needs right now.

Now we have numbers for UMvsC3 Vita.

595. Ultimate Marvel VS. Capcom 3 (PSV) (2011/12/17) - LTD 2011: 12,020 / FW: 6,353 / FWST: 30.72

So by the end of the year, UMvsC3 Vita had still not sold even 50% of the original shipping? (~48% of it if we assume it was around 20,680 using the first week sell-through)
Not very good no? I'm kinda new at this, but it doesn't look good to me.

Above should be read as this. Sorry, don't know what happened.

The tonic the market needs right now is the big DS/3DS titles that are coming.

Wouldnt hurt if the other plattforms would perform better though. Wii/Ps3/Vita should and will get a price drop in a couple of months.

It had a 58% sellthrough at the end of the year, not 48% :) But yeah, not very good, but the sales expectations for this game were probably quite low. The PS3/Xbox 360 version was also released just about 1 month earlier, so that probably affected the sales a bit of the Vita version.

Wii is probably on track for a global price cut in about a week. Well, the announcement of one at any rate.

I was not going to include Culdcept but then I saw the DS game sold 50k first week. It's soon to know based on pre-orders and site rankings if the 3DS game will do the same.

I included Gundam Seed because it's for the Vita. If we don't include one of its games now god knows when we'll have another game to predict. =P

Exactly. 3DS shouldn't be the sole standard bearer for Japanese gaming; its a recipe for disaster.

Which isn't very relevant to what I say. How much will DD sell in the end? 300, 400, 500k? It will have a very small part at Japanese market this year.

I think Black and White 2 will surpass B/W 1 comfortably in sales in the long run. The huge DS userbase, the popularity of the 3DS, the 3DS exclusive features such as Pokedex+ app, which if i'm not mistaken can be used to actually influence pokemon in the game/ capture new ones and the general momentum nintendo games have will equal massive, massive sales above even Diamond and Pearl imo.

No way.
You must also consider that B/W will surely receive a bump during the release of the sequel.

Kingdom Hearts bombed because of too many spin-offs flooding the market, while the main series is nowhere to be seen. This isn't the case with Dragon Quest, and the Monsters sub-series is the most successful spin-off by far.

That's one hell of a claim, particularly as Black and White are 5.8 million. I see 4-5 million overall; better than third versions, but not outpacing the originals.

I guess so. There was that Dragon Quest 3DS game that bombed last November though wasn't there?

Slime Mori Mori kinda bombed relative to other game in the same series yeah, but it still sold decently. Also the DQM series is much much more popular than other DQ spin-off (and it's also more popular than KH), it will sell really well.

I think it did; it was heavily overshipped, and now you can find it pretty cheap.
I mean, Square Enix didn't lose any money because of that game, which resembled a DS project ported over 3DS, but it sold way below expectations.

While I'm not sure about being heavily overshipped or not, what I meant was, in terms of sales, for the type of product it was, it didn't bomb.
