Yes, the Japanese have clearly shown they prefer mobile to handhelds and especially to dedicated home consoles. I don't think the Japanese video game industry is struggling as significantly as these charts would lead one to conclude, it's just that the type of games doing very well (on iOS and other mobile platforms) aren't being tracked.

I didn't expect the Football craze would also hit Japan. Thought they were primarily Baseball & Sumo Wrestling country.

Expected the streams would cross that week, seeing the Mario 8 hype and all.

Yeah for Youkai Watch! And I really wasn't expecting the Wii U to outsell the PS4 this week... o_O

Oh, and can someone with Photoshop skillz edit the "Gamepad outside the window in the rain" to make the GamePad hold a bloody kitchen knife... and add a part of the DS4 next to a visible pool of blood? :p

Sub 15k for the Vita makes me sad. Looks like it won't be long until steady 20k weeks are a distant memory.

I'll take small consolation from the 3/10 titles in the top 10.

Abysmal. This continues and the Japanese devs will make their own conclusions on what platforms to support in the future.

Year-on-year comparison is the most telling. At least with MK8 there will be some sales of note soon...... (hopefully)

I think the NSMBU + WiiParty U bundle is still available. And it has the best value so far since there is no MK bundle. So they're probably still picking it.

Even if you don't like 2D Mario games all that much they're must haves for any WiiU user. 2D Mario, Mario Kart and Smash were Wii co-op holy trinity. They just keep on giving even if you've already played the levels.

Doesnt look like there is much growth in the portable space. PSP/3DS version did almost exactly the same in totalt, just spread differently on the two platforms (PSP/3DS). Unless you mean growth on the 3DS only :) (referring to what you said in the previous Media Create thread).

Nintendo's Pro Bono PR Firm
With MK8 and Smash, Wii U could very well be the best selling console for a second year in a row in Japan. Hopefully with much better sales with these 2 phenomenon pieces of software :-/

Ah, yes, in my post in the other thread I was referring specifically to 3DS: it doubled WE2014's debut despite this being not a main title, but the usual World Cup version.
